Failure Date: 09/07/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at a low speed he applied the brake the abs system kicked in; however, there was a loss of brake operablility. The stopping of the vehicle was dramatically reduced. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic whom stated that there was a wheel bearing sensor failure. The entire wheel bearing with the sensor was replaced. The failure recurred multiple times. The contact stated that he researched and found that there was a recall (05v379000). The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. Bd.

About 165,000 miles brake pedal started to pulsate at low speed when stopping. Started out only when I would be turning left, now does it going staight, about 170,000 miles now. Had new caliper on driver side, new hub assemblie and sensor on passenger side, brake system flushed, still have problems with brake pedal pulsating, does not matter what kind of road I'm on.

4 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2005

In December of 2005 I brought my 2002 Silverado to the dealer for a recall on abs sensors. I was contacted and told I needed brake rotors and pads on all four wheels. I asked them how a truck with only 10,200 miles that had been garaged since purchase could require $900 worth of brakes. First I was told it was due to inactivity. After explaining I have a 1976 GMC ck10 parked beside the Silverado and it did not require such repair, I was told new brake materials are inferior to the older brake materials. I suspect there may be faulty materials used in GMC truck brakes circa 2002 and seek you advice on the matter. Thank you.

5 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2005

Had my 2002 chev Silverado in for recall service 05068 on 10-24-05. Dealer advised that recall service performed but vehicle required new front hub assemblies to correct abs problem at a cost of over $1000 to me; the recall states it will correct problems caused by corrosion between hubs and abs sensors. Cost should not be incurred by me for defective manufacture.

6 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2005

Truck will not come to a complete stop. I ran into another person coming to a stop. Truck will just keep rolling a little even with the brakes fully depressed. Talked to a couple of service stations and they said it was my abs sensors in the front hubs. Gm has a recall but not in my state and that is why I am filing a complaint.

7 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2005

The contact stated that the brakes on h 2002 Chevrolet Silverado were bad. At low speeds the truck will not stop. The contact noticed this a couple of weeks ago. When he took vehicle to the dealer they replaced some sensors, and it was still doing the same thing. The pedal went to the floor. Nhtsa recall 05v379000 regarding the abs brakes was issued. But the state of virginia was not included in the recall. He has not yet talked to the manufacturer. Also, was having problems with the rotors. The contact had to replace the rotors at 40,000 miles about a couple of months ago.

8 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

The contact stated anti -lock brakes were activating at low speeds. Road salt corrosion led to false brake sensor readings, causing anti lock brakes to activate at wrong speeds. While driving in a parking lot the contact ran over a concrete parking barrier because he could not stop. The parking lot was dry. He had not contacted the manufacturer. Took vehicle to a dealership, and they were able to clean the sensors. The consumer didn't learn about the recall until after he paid for the repairs. Updated 11/29/05. Updated 11/29/05. The consumer contacted the manufacture and was told that wisconsin was excluded from the recall. The consumer was not aware of the recall until after the dealer had repair the problem. The consumer request reimbursement for the repairs.

9 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2005

The contact states when coming to almost a complete stop the sensor that detects abs kicks in and vehicle just keeps going. This happens at low speeds of 5 mph or less. Once the abs kicks in it almost seems like vehicle accelerates. He noticed this about 2 weeks ago. Mechanic had him call the gm dealer , and they verified the problem. But because there was not a recall they could not do anything. Also called the manufacturer, and they made an appointment to diagnose the problem and go from there. When the contact bought the truck it had 19,000 miles on it. At 21,000 there were brake problems. Had new rotors/pads put on the back, resurfaced the front and put pads on the front. At 37,000 the contact was on a trip and the brakes starting clattering and screeching from the back. They told him the discs were so rusted they destroyed the brake pads, and he had to replace everything.

10 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

I currently am having problems with the abs sensor on my 2002 chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck. I have done some research and found an investigation that is open on this problem. The truck is having the same problems as described in the investigation report, and on several occasions in the past month or so the truck has had trouble stopping. I am taking it in for service tomorrow, as there is no recall on this. I would like add my complaint to the file to make you aware of another person experiencing this problem. There are currently 45,000 miles on this truck. I am submitting 15 failures, but it has trouble almost every time I stop, and has for the past month. Unfortunately I didn't have the money to fix it until now, so I only drove it sparingly.

11 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2005

The consumer stated that she was having a problem with 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The abs system kicked in at low speeds of 0-10 mph. This happened when the truck was slowing down or coming to a stop. This has been happening since may 2005 intermittently. The consumer had the abs sensors cleaned, and the truck was driving much better after the cleaning. The dealer has not been contacted because the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was contacted, and they told the consumer that this truck was not included in the recall currently. General motors told the mechanic at the repair shop to just clean the sensors instead of replacing them. This was at consumer's expense.

12 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2005

Contact states: having problems with the braking system on a gm pickup truck. Abs system keeps acting up. Dealer is not helpful at all. When he presses on brakes abs sensors kick in, and takes away all of the power from the brakes , and vehicle accelerates throughout the intersections.

13 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2005

The exact problem you describe in investigation #pe05-020. I came within inches of hitting a parked car. I spent $266. 30 to have the abs sensors cleaned. This should require a recall: this is a very serious problem.

14 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2005

Prior to the crash I'll describe, I noticed that the antilock brakes on my truck would engage randomly at low speeds, even though the road was clear and dry. I never received any indication from indicator lights or the truck's status display that there was a malfunction in progress. Until the incident below, braking control always returned within a few seconds and seemed to pose no safety threat. On this particular evening, they had performed without incident all the way home from work. I pulled into my driveway and into my garage. Upon entering the garage proper, the antilock brakes engaged. The garage floors (and driveway) were both clear of any snow, ice, or liquids. When the antilock brakes took control, it released the brakes and locked the brake pedal in such a way that I could not regain control. This time, I was unable to push the pedal down. My vehicle subsequently stuck the workbench along the back wall of my garage. The impact pushed the entire garage wall out almost 12 inches, including the cement block foundation. Fortunately, there was no damage to the vehicle. However, the damage to the garage remains. To correct the failure, a mechanic at a local dealership removed the fuse that controls the antilock brake functions, essentially disabling the antilock system. Due to the nature and location of the antilock sensors (in the wheel bearings), repairs are not financially feasible at this time. The truck's brakes function normally with the antilock system disabled. I believe that this complaint directly relates to NHTSA action number pe05020.

15 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

2002 chevy Silverado brakes failed at low speeds. When the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to be inspected, he was informed there was a problem with the abs. The sensor was cleaned and a part was replaced. The consumer then received a recall notice in October 2005 regarding the abs. The recall letter stated the consumer could apply for reimbursement. The tailgate rusted and broke. The steering relay and right front idler arm were replaced. The window regulator was replaced. The wheel center cap fell off.

16 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2004

I just heard of gm's recall on abs braking systems. I have a 02 Silverado that has had this same problem two separate times. When the brakes were applied it felt like no pedal then it would pulsate. Which you could feel through the pedal. Both times the dealership said the sensors were to blame. The second time it happened they did not want to fix without pay. Since it had happened a couple months earlier.

17 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

While driving at low speeds, the consumer applied the brake pedal and the brakes failed. In addition the brake pedal vibrated uncontrollably. The consumer was not able to maintain control of the vehicle and it crashed into a garage. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the anti lock brake sensors were corroded, and needed to be replaced or cleaned. The problem recurred.
