2002 chevy Silverado pick up truck with abs activation at low speed. Causes increased vehicle stopping distance that almost resulted in several crashes. Active recall under # 05v379000. Work was performed at pasadena goodyear due to a week delay inservice appointment at jba Chevrolet in glen burnie maryland. Complaint and request for reimbursement of expenses was files with gm under thier case number of 1-441050950. Dave miller, 1-866-790-5600, advises that even though our VIN number falls under those captured for recall and is within the recall states and the problem is characteristic of hte recall they are denying reimbursement because I never received a recall notice. I advised them that I just bought the truck two weeks prior and would not have received a notice. I also requested that they send me a formal written denial of claim and they will not as they do not have authority to do so. I paid $1300 to have this safety defect repaired and they will not reimburse me for my expenses. All TSB's were followed and failed to correct the poblem. The only resolve was the replacement of both front wheel hubs. Removed , defective parts are available for inspection.

10 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2005

At low speeds, (below 10 mph) the antilock braking system will engage (pulsing of brake pedal) on my 2002 1500 Silverado and make stopping distances dramatically greater in slippery conditions, even if only one wheel is on a patch of ice/snow. This leads to scary situations at stop signs/semiphores. I contacted gm, and they advised me that I live in a state (mn) that is not covered by the recall. I was advised that if the vehicle was repaired at a dealership, I may be eligible for reimbursement on a case-by-case basis. For now, I have removed the abs fuse to disable the abs system. I realize that the abs will not work at all, but at least I my stopping power will be predictable.

11 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2005

'02 Silverado 1500, ext cab. . . Pls add me to the list of faulty abs experiences. . . The truck abs activated at a slow speed brake, just prior to full stop. . . Tapped the rear of the car in front of me. . . Luckily, no damage and no one was hurt but, it could have been serious. It now seems that the faulting abs has been noticed before but, it was intermittent and only suspect. . . The 60a fuse has been pulled to disable this "safety" feature. . .

13 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

The contact purchased a 2002, Chevrolet Silverado new in 2002 from ron marhoffer Chevrolet in northeast ohio, where he resided until early 2005. During the summer of 2005 abs intermittently activated at low speeds. By the end of September 2005 this problem was occurring almost every time the vehicle came to a stop. Contacted Chevrolet and a service appointment was made at local dealer, perry Chevrolet, in columbia, mo. The dealership sent the contact home without correcting the problem. While there was a recall covering 2002 Silverados in the state of ohio, there seemed to be some questions as to whether or not this vehicle was covered. The contact believed this vehicle was unsafe to drive in its current condition, since the stopping distance was unpredictable, especially in places such as parking lots. As of 12-13-05 the vehicle has been repaired. Updated 01/11/06.

14 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2005

In the early hours of Monday August 29, upon arriving home, we were pulling into our driveway at about 10 miles per hour in our 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, the anti-lock brakes engaged and we had difficulty coming to a stop and almost hit our garage door. On Tuesday August 30th , my husband was pulling into a parking space at work going approx 5-10 miles per hour and the anti-lock brakes engaged, causing him not to be able to stop and hitting another persons car across from him in a parking space. In talking to a CO-worker about what the anti-lock brakes were doing she directed me to this website to check if there were any recalls. On August 29th, there was a recall notice issued about this very problem. We called our local dealership, cody Chevrolet in montpelier, vt. They told us to pull the fuse on the anti-lock brakes until we could bring in the truck on Thursday, sept 1 to have the problem corrected. The other person's car that was struck by our truck took their car to get an estimate, which came back at $688. I called gm to get them to pay for it. They keep saying they need to investigate this further. My concern is that rather than hitting a parked car, my husband could have hit a person. He could have been traveling downtown at a slow rate of speed, come to a person crossing a crosswalk, the anti-lock breaks could have engaged and he could have struck a person. Gm has told me that the recall is not being released until there are enough parts available at which time it will be released to owners in January in VIN # order. I feel that this could be a potential public safety hazard. I also feel gm has an obligation to pay the damage done to the other vehicle, especially since our local dealership fixed the problem at no cost to us based on the recall.

15 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2005

I own a 2002 chevy Silverado 1 ton dual wheel pick up - extended cab. For the last 8 months I have been having problems with the anti lock brakes pulsating at low speeds (under 10 mph when I am trying to stop. I was previously injured in an automobile accident and have over 12 disks in my neck, mid and lower back, I am classified as totally and permanently disabled. This truck is my only means of transportation to and from doctor appts and medical treatment, I have contacted my dealership about the problem and was advised that only vehicles in canada were being recalled for this problem, if I wanted it fixed it would cost approx. $350. 00. I now live on ssi disability and only receive $841. 00 per month, I cannot afford to have this vehicle fixed and the problem is getting worse every day. It has happened well over 1000 times and pretty much does it now ever time I push the brake pedal. What am I supposed to do??? do I just wait until I lose control of my vehicle while braking and hit someone causing more damage to myself and possible another innocent person or are you going to force gm to fix this disaster? please advise me of my options and what I so do or whom I should contact - I need my truck fixed!.

16 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2005

Poor quality vehicle/parts anti-lock brakes activate when they should not, there is an upcoming recall as gm is aware of this problem on the 2002 chevy Silverado, however they will not fix it until the recall is active. 17 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2005

2002 chevy Silverado 4x4, 60,000 miles, anti-lock brakes activate at low speeds (5-0 mph)when stopping. Was to the dealer several times for this problem when vehicle was new, with unsatisfactory results,(problem was temporarily fixed, but ultimately returned). The problem remains to this day. I have heard of many others with this same problem, even a recall in canada to correct this problem. Jeff plungis of the detroit news wrote an article in late may/early June about this ongoing problem gm has. So far there has been no damage or accidents because of this problem, just a few close calls. But my wife refuses to drive the truck. What are the chances gm will own up to this failure and recall these vehicles to finally make the correct repairs.

24 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2005

In may of 2005 while approaching a stop light at slow speed, on dry pavement, the abs brakes, in my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, activated causing the vehicle to require a greater than normal stopping distance. No accident occurred. The incident seemed isolated. Then in June, the problem continued and became more and more frequent. When pulling into a parking space at a slow speed I was just barely able to come to a stop within the confines of the parking space. Although no particular accident has occurred I strongly feel that this is a very unsafe and potentially dangerous problem. The vehicle has only 19,000 miles on it. The vehicle was brought to hadad Chevrolet in pittsfield, MA where we were told it would cost between $270 and $920 to fix. We have called Chevrolet to see if the manufacturer is responsible for fixing the problem but they had not even heard of the problem. The problem has not yet been corrected as we are investigated the manufacturer's responsibility and the most economical repair for our problem.

33 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2005

2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton pickup. . . . . . Anti-lock brakes malfunction. . . . Had at least 6 instances where it seems that the brakes do not work as I attempt to slow down or come to a complete stop. . . . . I am now in the habit of beginning to stop at least 100 feet shorter than what I should normally expect to. . . . Most times it happens, it seems that the anti-lock feature takes over, when there should be absolutely no reason to do so (dry pavement and less than 15 mph). . . Needless to say, it is not a positive feeling to "hope" that the brakes are indeed going to work. . . . . What I find aggravating is that I contacted 2 separate gm dealerships with this issue, one dealership said that the computer "knows the necessary stopping distance" (I asked if the computer can see the car in front of me which I am about to rear-end). . . . . . The other dealership said "sorry, they all do that from time to time". . . . . It is only after realizing that NHTSA is looking into complaints with braking on these vehicles that I want to make known that it is indeed more of a safety issue than what gm's corporate position is taking. . . . I feel that it is only a matter of time before my vehicle is one of those involved in a fender bender, or god forbid, I run over a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

34 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2005

Anti-lock brakes engage at low speeds many times. Near miss accident. Gm has a recall for this problem in cold weather states but not wisconsin. How can wisconsin not be a cold weather state when illinois is south of us and it was included in the recall. I paid a dealer to repair this problem and I want my money back.
