58 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While making a left turn steering column failed to turn properly. Driver turned the steering wheel and it was hard to turn. Also, driver complained about a brake problem. When brakes were applied the pedal went to the floor. Driver took the vehicle to dealer for inspection, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem. . . . . . . Also, steering hard to turn when applying brakes.
Consumer stated: brakes locked up, does so at slow speeds at 10-15mph. Pushed brakes to floor and then let off and have to push again.
Truck fails to stop at low speed. We have experienced this on two vehicles, a 1998 Chevrolet siverado and our current 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.
Per NHTSA action number pe05-020, I have experienced on more than one occaision the failures described in the aforementioned bulletin. Failures occurred subsequent to dealership's performing the following work under warranty: replacement of failed front end bearings, seals, pinions and related components. Dealership's position has been one of denial and dismissal of the complaint. Chevrolet only offers reimbursement for repairs if this becomes a recall issue. Because this is a braking issue and a safety issue not only for my family and self, but other motorists, it obviates justification of recall status.
Abs coming on at low speeds (under 10 mph) in dry conditions. This started in Jan. 2005 when I bought the truck and continued until approx. Late March. This did not cause any accidents but there were several close calls. I didn't take to the chevy dealer to get it looked at, but I did notice after I would wash the truck that the problem would be much better for a time then start up again.
I own a 2002 chevy Silverado. I read in the newspaper about an investigation into gm pickup truck antilock brakes. It described exactly what I have been experiencing since Jan of 2005. At low speeds, usually in parking lots, my antilock brakes engage even though the road conditions are completely dry. The result is that my vehicle requires 2-5 feet more distance to come to a complete stop. I took my brakes apart to inspect them and clean them. I found nothing wrong and there was plenty of brake pad left. The rotors looked fine also. Cleaning the brakes did not solve the problem. It has happened 100+ times since January. It is always at low speeds and the road conditions are just fine. None of the dashboard lights come on indicating a problem. A few months back I discussed the problem with a few coworkers and found that 2 of them were experiencing the same problem. One guy has a 1999 chevy pickup and the other guy has a chevy pickup but I am unsure of the model year of his. Hope this helps.
The brake pedal tends to fall to the floor, causing the brakes to work intermittently at various speeds, resulting in extended stopping distance while on the road. Manufacturer was notified by owner.
Dt:the cosumer owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The problem is the abs. When getting down to 2-3 mph the abs comes on, and will almost cause an accident. There is an open NHTSA investigation, pe05020. Parts in the abs have replaced.
Dt: the contact is having problem with her abs brakes she says that when you go to stop and use the brakes you can't use them because they ease up and freeze. When she pushed on the pedal it locked up and made a noise and they will not work. The only thing prior to the failure is the noise that she hears. The vehicle is a four wheel drive. The failure has almost caused quite a few accident's.
2002 Chevrolet Silverado experiencing problems with the anti-lock braking system. The vehicle started to vibrate and chatter in the braking system which was felt throughout the pedal. When the failure occurred, the consumer ran into a fence. The problem was diagnosed as a failure of the abs system likely due to corrosion.
The consumer was driving toward a stop sign and when he attempted to apply the brakes, they did not respond . Provide further details.
Vehicle just turned twenty five thousand miles and needed brakes and rotors. While driving there was pulsation, and difficult stopping. Took vehilce to the dealer. They wanted to charge consumer $800. 00 for repairs.
My abs chatters and it pushes hard and does not want to stop. I just had new rotors put on in may and in oct I had new discs and rotors turned down. . It is full of brake fluid. I have a warranty on it bumper to bumper and not sure if it covers it. I work construction out of town and need a reliable vehicle. I have to take it to my dealer to have it checked out yet. I haven't had the time due to working out of town. This should not be happening. What can I do?.
Abs brakes are terrible. Took vehicle to the dealer. Had a few close calls, hit someone in the rear end, slowed vehicle down, but didn't stop it. Abs brakes feel spongy, they are not adequate for this truck.
When depressing the brakes brake pedal pulsated, causing the vehicle to have extended stopping distance. Consumer took the vehicle to dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that the rotors were rusted and needd to be turned.
The brakes are working poorly. Pedal goes to the floor before it stops the vehicle. The caller says it has been like that since he purchased the vehicle. Dealer will not fix it for free. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet. When the brakes were applied the consumer felt a vibration as if the abs activated.
Abs brakes engaged at speeds below 5 miles per hour regardless of road conditions. I nearly crashed into parked cars in parking lots, and my own garage at home. I did crash into steel dumpster at work. Abs engaged while doing 5 mph going down a hill at work. They would not disengage after repeated attempts pressing and releasing brakes. The vehicle sped up due to no breaking and slide sideways which resulted in me striking a steel dumpster at work caving in both doors on the driver side of truck. This resulted in $4346. 38 insurance claim which I paid a $500. 00 deductible on. I had to disconnect the abs after that as the constant engagement of the abs would occur at anytime I was going 5 mph or less.
When applying the brakes, the vehicle continued to accelerate. Please provide additional information.
When on an incline, the driver noticed that the vehicle rolled three to five feet before stopping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions, however, the mechanics were unable to duplicate the problem. The incident recurred on 3/14/04, in which the vehicle rolled 5 or more feet before stopping. The service dealer was notified and were waiting for a response from gm.
When coming to a complete stop on dry pavement under moderate to light braking, once the vehicle falls below about 3 mph (I. E. , in the last few feet before a complete stop), a shudder is felt in the brake pedal lasting 1 to 1-1/2 seconds. The shuddering in the pedal is accompanied by a stuttering sound. The vehicle stops normally --so far -- except for the vibration and noise. This happens on 30%-50% of the stops; the rest of the time there is no noise and no shuddering in the brake pedal. Dealer has tried twice to fix problem, but today was told by Chevrolet tech rep that this condition is a normal characteristic of their traction control/abs system and will not authorize any further work by the dealer! I do not consider this a "normal condition" and am concerned about the potential for more catastrophic problems should this condition remain uncorrected.
After 3 weeks of ownership we started experiencing several problems with the steering and braking of this vehicle. Steering wheel would "catch" and make thumping noises as we turned right or left sharp turns (slowly). Brakes are going to cause an accident sooner or later as the pedal goes completely to the floor and thumps loudly but does not slow the vehicle when you try to make a moderately sudden stop. We had our truck in for service after owning it for 3 weeks and the idiots at spitzer Chevrolet tried to tell us it was the trailer hitch making all the noise. . . . . What a joke.
While applying brake pedal goes all the way down floorboard. Dealership is aware of problem.
Consumer states that when applying the brakes the pedal goes all the way down to the floor causing a extended stopping. Dealer states that it has to do with the abs. Nlm.
