Your stop is accelerated, until such point that the brakes actually revert to "regular" braking and the antilock brake annunciator light illuminates on the instrument panel. The wheel sensors are less than a year old as I have had both front wheel hubs replaced.

2006 chevy Silverado truck front abs antilock sensors failed due to corrosion gm had a recall 08/30/2005 for same problem on 2002 models, they knew about this in 05 (when my truck was built) but only admit to 2002 models NHTSA campaign # 05v37900 - think this needs to be extended to all models they built this way.

Consumer complained about an abs brake system problem. When applying the brakes they will chatter and vibrate, and will not stop the vehicle. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, who suggested that consumer take the vehicle to the dealer to have it inspected. Consumer had it inspected by an independent mechanic, but the cause of the problem had not yet been identified. Nearly rear ended an auto at a stop light and ran completely through 2 stop signs. Anti-lock brake failure.
The antilock brakes failed to allow vehicle to stop. Abs engaged itself on dry pavement at low speed. After trying to repeat the problem, I found it occured intermittently; and if it did it was while braking at 7 mph. The only way to stop the vehicle in abs "mode" is firmly press pedal to floor and allow 3 times the stopping distance. I have since removed the abs fuse and the truck stops normally.

While driving down hill, the anti lock brakes failed and the vehicle began to slide. The driver could not get the vehicle to stop and it rolled down and over a hill. The vehicle was totaled. This vehicle was involved in a brake recall for this year, make, and model. Nhtsa recall campaign 00v345000; brake line chaffing.
My1999 Chevrolet Silverado 4wd had 48,00 miles on it when problems started. In good weather on dry smooth roads my abs would engage while I was stopping or slowing in a normal manner. Even though this was somewhat surprising I did not feel that the stopping distance was being compromised. Then an incident occured while my wife and I were turning into a parking space at a retail store. As I was turning into the parking space I applied the brakes to solw the vehicle and it felt like I had no brakes, the pedal was very hard to push, felt like it would not move like it was stuck, and there was no braking action. I immediately believed that I was going to strike the vehicle ahead of me and continued to push the brake pedal with greater force. The result is that all of a sudden the brake moved forward and the antilock brakes engaged. The truck stopped before I struck the other vehicle. A good mechanic explained that his experience with chevry truck abs throwing false signals was that the sensors were probably dirty and needed cleaned. As a simple check of the abs I removed the 60 amp fuse for the antilock brake system. My brakes work very well now and I have not had a problem. I have not scheduled an appointment to get the problem fixed and after reading that your organization is now conducting an investigation into problems with Chevrolet truck antilock brake failures I intend to leave the system as it is now until you finish your investigation. Some information on my background. I am 54 years of age, a retired law enforcement officer,26 years service, having reached the rank of chief deputy/undersheriff. I have owned, worked on, and built old cars since I was a teenager.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for routine service when the anti-lock braking system failed to activate. Anti-lock motor module fails, causing motor to run constantly even when ignition is off causing danger of fire. My 1999 Silverado's anti-lock brakes fail intermittently at slow speeds. The symptoms, occurances and frequency of failures are indentical to the ones general motors reported in a press release dated 7/21/99. Several weeks ago, I took my truck to the local Chevrolet dealer. The service department stated that they had not received any bulletins from general motors regarding the type of brake failures I described however, the service manager did state that one other man in town reported the same problem in his 1999 Silverado which almost caused an accident. Please advise how I may resolve this sitiuation with my truck's brakes. Thanks!.
