Brake failure today on chevy siverado. Driving 55 mph on highway. The car ahead of me slowed and I braked. Peddle went to the floor without stopping vehical. Was able to come to stop and could see rusted brake lines by driver door. Had wife press brake peddle to see fluid sraying from rusted area. Had zero braking power when first went out.

Front brake lines rusted through and spilled brake fluid while moving at slow speed. Had front brake lines replaced. Six months or so later, rear brake lines rusted through and spilled brake fluid while moving at slow speed. Had rear brake lines replaced. Abs is now contaminated and is causing stop time delay, especially at high speed. Almost crashed on several occasions where my heart dropped to my stomach. Decided not to drive truck anymore until I can replace the entire brake system with rust free components.

Rear brake line blew when trying to apply brakes. No indicator lights or anything pedal just went straight to the floor. Had to swerve off the road into an embankment to avoid a collision at a red light! mechanic said that all my brake lines were rusted and it was just a matter of time before another one was to fail.
Was driving when a vehicle pulled out in front of me. I applied the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. The vehicle slowed however did not stop. After this the brake pedal did not feel right. Upon inspecting the brakes myself I determined that a brake line failed. I took the vehicle to a local mechanic where he proceeded to tell me that this is an on going issue with these trucks and that all of the brake lines should be replaced. The lines are steel and rust. The bill would be approx. $1,000. 00 to repair!!! it's a nice truck however I may not purchase another gm vehicle because of this issue and gm not standing behind it and recalling these to have the lines replaced with stainless.
Brake lines are starting to rust and blow. This should not be doing this at 80,00 miles. Truck is very rarely driven in the snow. And salt. I tow alot and am afraid they will blow when towing my camper with my kids in the truck.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated the vehicle had been experiencing severe corrosion in the fuel line. The failure happened without warning. The vehicle was dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel line was corroded and it needed to be replaced. Prior to this failure the vehicle's brake line had corroded as a result the vehicle experienced difficulty stopping. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not provieded. Kh.
I was driving on rt. 7 in schenectady NY, speed was around 35mph, traffic signal changed to red, as I was appling the brakes the peddal suddenly went to the floor, lucky for me there were no cars in front of me, or in the intersection. My truck did envetually stop, but it was after passing thru the intersection. The red light on the dash did not come on till the brakes failed. Further inspection revealed main brake line to the rear wheels blew due to rust.
Brake line rupture.
Sitting at burger king drive thru when brake pedal went to the floor. Brake lines had ruptured due to corrosion. Vehicle only 10 years old and 130,000 miles. Had brakes checked often at service centers, no mention of problem. Glad this didn't happen last month when I was barreling down the tennessee highway with a full load in the back of my truck. Nhtsa and gm should be ashamed for allowing this to continue. I am sure people are dying due to this negligence and faulty materials being used.

On October 22,2015 while driveing on interstate 75 the fuel pump stopped functioning and resulting in a near disasterous situation. Results $751. 81 repair cost plus tow. Then one week later,October 29 2015 at wilmington pike and inertstate 675 red light my brake lines burst and I narrowly avoided a wreck. Repair cost $870. 17 . I was not noteafide of any recall. So be fair warning if I had known or been I would have fixed it.
Sudden loss of braking power due to brake line rupture while on the exit ramp of the freeway. Found brake lines completely rusted and they were paper thin in multiple spots. Will have to replace all brake lines on the vehicle. Almost lost control of the vehicle. Note that vehicle has always been maintained by dealership.
Brakes failed suddenly due to severely corroded brake lines. Brake pedal was slightly mushy at stop sign coming off of freeway. At the next stop sign (3-way intersection on 55-mph county highway) the pedal went right to the floor. Fortunately there was nobody in the intersection or a serious accident may have occurred. Apparently gm's position is that brake lines are maintenance item, and this is normal wear and tear, which is ridiculous. I've owned older vehicles (including a nearly 50-year old Chevrolet truck) in snow country and have never seen brake lines this rusty. I am very fortunate the rupture did not occur in an emergency braking situation.
The brake pedal went completely to the floor when our friend tried to stop the vehicle. A brake line running on top of the frame behind the radiator had completely rusted thru, allowing all of the brake fluid to pump out of the system. All of the steel brake lines are extremely rusty and probably near failure.
As I attempted to brake to a stop on dry pavement, the brake pedal suddenly stiffened, preventing me from using the pedal to come to a controlled stop. Fortunately, I was going slow at the time and was in a parking lot, so was able to steer away from colliding with a parked car. . From all that I read ,the root cause of this problem involves the abs system. About 3 years ago, I had the brake lines completely replaced with a better grade than came with the truck. I did this because, while the truck is going on 15 years, the main components appear to have several more years. But not with this sort of fundamental safety issue. I'm angry that gm has not had to recall my truck for this obvious safety flaw in the brake system.

While exiting of a highway and traveling 25 mph my brakes completely failed. I pushed the pedal to the floor several times but it did not slow the truck. As a result I rear ended a vehicle in front of me. I had now warning or check light for the brakes previous or since. Upon inspection I discovered corroded and leaking brake lines in the middle section of my truck.
When stopping quickly to avoid a deer, the brake line leading to the rear wheels failed. Luckily I did not hit the deer but if it was pedestrian or another vehicle later in the trip there would have been fatality. There are numerous reports of these rusty brake lines failing. My truck 8 years old with <72,000 miles. I live in the very bottom of the "snow belt". My mechanic says he sees multiples of these every month. He has a note attached to the lift for directions on connections because he does it so often. I lost all brake fluid to the ground and had no brakes! I had a 12,000 # trailer behind me. Thankfully this trailer has great brakes of its own or I would have never stopped (was on a downhill).
My vehicle with 57,000 miles had the brakes go out while driving without warning. I took it to a mechanic who said the front brake lines had rusted and broke. I have had the work completed. I feel this is a product defect for a low mileage vehicle. It is very well taken care of and has very few miles on it, and I have owned it since it was new. I have been in contact with Chevrolet and they will not provide me with any answers. They keep telling me to take it to a dealership, however the dealership has told me there is nothing they can do.
While approaching intersection put on brakes and they failed, pedal went to the floor. If I had not been a test driver for Chrysler corp. And doing lots of brake and suspension work I could have easily been seriously hurt. The brake lines were shot, rusted through. This vehicle has spent it's life in FL. No salt on the road. I know you have ruled on this being a recall, but I think you made a huge mistake, someone will be killed by this. Thanks.

While backing in my driveway, applied brakes and pedal went to the floor. The brake line to the rf wheel had rusted/corroded to the point that it failed. All of the brake lines are in the same condition and will require replacement.
A steel brake line cracked and failed. I was at my house when it happened so no serious injuries or damage. However, the brake failed completely and instantly with no warning. It could have occurred at an intersection and the results could have been much worse. I had my wife press on the pedal while I looked for the leak. It was along the length of the steel line routing from the abs module to the front right brake. It creates a mist of fluid near the radiator. My next concern is that the fluid will cause further corrosion of the parts it sprayed.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the brakes suddenly failed and the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a ditch. The contact indicated that when depressing the brake pedal, it extended to the floorboard. The independent mechanic examined the vehicle and discovered that brake lines had rusted. The contact also discovered that the frame, the rocker panels and the tailgate hinges had also rusted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000. The VIN was not available.
Traveling 60 mph on the highway and approached a red traffic light. Applied the brakes to stop with other traffic. Brake pedal went completely to the floor with approximately 10% braking power. No warning lights on dash. Fortunately the traffic light turned green and traffic moved prior to a crash. Crash was guaranteed if traffic light had not changed. Brake fluid level fine. Brake line under drivers side rusted and burst. No warning signs.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the brake lines are rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 72,000. Ad.

The brake lines on my truck are completely rotted out. When I went to get into my truck and drive away no brake pedal exsisted. Yet again another quality gm product made from inferior materials.
This is the (2) times losing my brakes due to rusted brake lines. Today 7-11-2015 I lost them again and once again due to rusted brake lines. I ended up driving into some bushes to stop and just missing (2) trees. I’m not the only one in the us that is having this dangerous problem with rusted brake lines on this type of make. I ask that you recall this make a. S. A. P. Before any lives are lost. Once again I repeat “recall” this make a. S. A. P. If I hit those trees I'd be dead!! p. S. Help help!!!!!!.
Going out of the garage, stepped on the brake and the pedal went to the floor. Noticed a puddle under the truck and found a rusted thru brake line at the abs control valve. Updated 09/10/lj.
My husband was driving the vehicle at approximately 60 mph on a local highway when he needed to brake to slow down for a vehicle who turned on up ahead when the brake line blew. Pedal immediately went soft. He barely avoided collision and had to pull off into a nearby church parking lot. Now we are out the expense of having the brake lines replaced. The rust issue, which has been complained about in all of the others, is the same here that led to this. Though it has high mileage, the truck has been very well taken care of as it is a regency edition Silverado.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving at approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact had to take the vehicle out of gear in order to stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were corroded as a result the pressure of the brake fluid caused the lines to fracture. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. The VIN was not available.
Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated while 35 mph, the vehicle could not stop even when the brakes were depressed. The contact stated they had to use the emergency brake to force the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was taken to a dealership where it was diagnosed that the brake lines were leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 99,610. Kh.

When returning home my brakes failed when entering my driveway causing me to strike a tree. There was minor damage to the grill of my vehicle. The cause was a ruptured brake line. There was no warning of the loss of brakes.
Brake line burst and brake pedal went to floor. At only 15 mph I had some stopping power by pumping brake pedal and got the truck stopped. Thankfully, I have a very long driveway and was still on my property. I was pulling a heavy trailer and do not want to imagine what would have happened with traffic and at a greater speed. I inspected the brake lines and noticed they were all badly corroded. I am having all brake lines replaced tomorrow. I see no recall notice and have since read about others who have had the same problem. I am 66 years old and have had one brake line failure many years ago on a 1963 Plymouth with very high mileage. This truck has just over 50 thousand miles. I was shocked at the condition of these brake lines. Without complete replacement of the lines I do not consider this vehicle safe to drive.
Brake line broke. Brake lines are severely corroded. I lost my brakes while driving. The petal went to the floor.
Brake line rupture resulting in immediate brake failure without warning. Parallel parking a 2006 Silverado when we encountered a complete brake failure and nearly struck another parked vehicle. Brake petal depressed completely to the floor without warning. Steered truck toward curb to fully stop before striking other vehicle. Immediate inspection revealed brake line rupture on drivers side of vehicle in undercarriage area near back of drivers seat. Significant loss of brake fluid and complete brake failure. Fortunately traveling less than 5 mph - five minutes earlier we were traveling at speeds of 70 mph on interstate highway. This could have been a catastrophic event had it occurred on the interstate or the offramp. Vehicle passed a virginia state safety inspection three weeks earlier. Gm or NHTSA should warn gm owners to check their brake lines and also consider a recall.
