38 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/24/2015

While starting the vehicle, the brake pedal suddenly dropped to floor and brakes failed. There was no warning light and all four brakes failed. Fortunately, the vehicle was stopped. Testing the brakes, I found there was a little braking capability, but very little. I have since found that the brake lines were rusted through and the brake fluid sprays out the line below the driver's door hinge. A quick internet search showed this is a well known problem, but I was never notified of the risk. Thank goodness it didn't happen on the freeway! this vehicle has spent most of its life in ohio.

39 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/21/2015

I was backing up the truck when a car came up behind me and had to hit the brakes hard. The peddle went all the way to the floor, no brakes at all. Had to steer the truck into a snow bank to avoid an accident. The cab of the truck immediately smelled like brake fluid. Took the truck to the shop and discovered the brake lines are rusted at every point where they connect to the frame. Repaired the first leak and another leak started in another line in the same area the lines attached to the frame behind the drivers side front wheel. Repaired the second leak and a 3rd leak appeared inside the frame rail behind the cab where the line attaches to the frame. The lines can not be safely repaired. All new lines must be installed. The truck only has 10,250 miles on it and is always washed including the under carriage after driving on salted roads.

40 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/21/2015

Hi, not sure if you are aware, but there is a serious issue with 2004 Chevrolet Silverado brake lines. On 2/21/15, my son was driving my truck (VIN# 1gcec14x84z326818). He was about 3 miles from home when the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I had to take the truck to an auto mechanic and he said all the lines were rusted out. One line burst, but all needed replacing. The truck only has 36,ooo original miles on it. I am glad that no one was killed or injured. I am sure you are aware that this needs to be recalled by gm/Chevrolet. I did some research through the ntsb, aaa, edmunds, and motor trend and they all seem to think there is a major problem with certain years. Thank you for listening to me and thankfully, my 17 year old son knew enough to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Respectfully submitted, timothy james rixson, usn command master chief (aw).

42 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

For the third time a brake line has rusted completely through and caused complete loss of control. It was located under the drivers seat above the frame. I had absolutely no brakes at 70 mph on hwy 5. I took it to a chevy dealership and they told me it was not their problem. I am extremely concerned about the forth brake line that is complexly covered in rust. This is going to kill someone when it rusts through.

43 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

My wife and I got into the vehicle to go somewhere and as we started to move I tried to stop and the brakes would not stop the vehicle. I applied the emergency brake in order to stop. I returned to my driveway using the emergency brake. I checked and found that I had no brake fluid. I got under my truck and found that my brake lines are corroded and one had a severe leak. I researched the internet and found that there have been multiple similar incidents where there have been crashes. I have talked with a Chevrolet rep and I was told that they do not consider this a safety issue. Although they know of this problem they do not plan a recall. Someone evidently has to die before it becomes a safety issue.

44 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

As I was driving I approached a traffic light and allied the brakes. As I applied them, the pedal never offered much resistance and eventually went to the floor. I suspected that a flexible brake line had ruptured so I got off the street as quickly as I could. I examined the inside of all of the wheels where I thought that brake fluid might be evident. There was none to be seen. I limped home with the vehicle and examined it more closely. There was a major leak under the floor of the vehicle in a rigid brake line leading to the anti-lock brake controller. I researched the issue on the internet and found that gm has refused to issue a recall for rusted brake lines. In my opinion these lines should be of the highest quality material to be found. Gm, however, must not think that the safety of their customers warrants any better materials than the rust prone metal that the brake lines are manufactured from.

One morning out of the blue when I went to drive my truck, pressed the brake pedal to put it in gear my pedal went to the floor with very little give. Looking under the truck I notice a metal brake line has a hole. The worst part, all the medal brake lines are so rusted it looks as if they could all fail at any time.

48 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

While driving on route 95 my brake line broke. It is completely rusted out. I found thousands of other people online with the same problem. Gm needs to recall this. I had to swerve across traffic and drive on the grass shoulder to come to a stop. Very very scary.

49 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

The brake lines are very rusted and I am very concerned this can lead to a serious injury for myself or others. I know of many other owners of similar model trucks with the same problem. This is a very real safety threat and gm should repair under warranty as this is a serious defect.

50 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I own a 2002 chevy Silverado, and I have had the brakes fail on me multiple times the first time I encountered this issue was in early January when I was driving to school and I approached a stop sign and when I went to slow down I had no brakes and my vehicle rolled into the street luckily I wasn't go very fast and there were no cars coming so I didn't get hit. The repairs cost me 175$, that was repairing the problem to bare minimum (single brake line replacement). After I fixed that issue I ran into another problem, the abs brake system will now spontaneously turn on when I come to a stop, it resulted in a three car crash, I was going to back into a parking spot and when I pulled my truck forward I tried to stop and the abs locked up my trucks brakes (not slippery out) and forced me to hit two other vehicles, one was majorly damaged and another with minor yet still severe damage, this accident ended with me paying more in insurance and having to fix the damages on my own vehicle out of pocket. I will also in the very near future need to replace all my brake lines because they are on the verge of failing and I am being priced near 900$ for the repairs, I am not sure how much the abs problem is going to be because the truck has been parked ever since the incident, the brakes are costing me a lot of money and hardship.

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving approximately 35 mph hauling a trailer, the front and rear brake hydraulic lines failed. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by using the brakes on the trailer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact, an experienced mechanic, diagnosed and replaced the brake lines. On a separate occasion while driving 50 mph, a plastic component of the driver's seat fractured and caused the seat to slide back and forth into the steering wheel. The failure was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 58,000. The VIN was not available.

53 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/27/2014

There was a complete brake failure coming to a stop sign. Fortunately was able to get the vehicle stopped using emergency brake. There was also no other vehicles at stop sign or at cross street. Went through the intersection. There was little or no brake pressure and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. At the shop it was noted there was a complete brake line failure at the abs module near the driver door of all 6 rear brake lines. The brake lines all rusted through. The shop noted this was a common defect of the chevy Silverados. This appears to be an issue especially in cold climates where salt and snow accumulates. This needs to be a safety recall to fix this defect. All 6 brake lines were replaced.

54 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/24/2014

While exiting a parking lot, I applied the brakes to stop before pulling out into traffic. The brake pedal went to the floor suddenly and with no warning. My truck went out into the road where I quickly turned hard right to avoid crossing the road. I then used the emergency brake to pull over and stop. I am a mechanic by trade, and I knew right away what had happened. My truck is in exceptional condition as I am only the second owner. The first owner had garage kept this vehicle and it has never been wrecked. I do not plow snow or off-road it. I had a gm certified mechanic fix the transfer case issue (gm also knows about this) last summer. He inspected my truck then and found nothing to be alarmed about. I did talk to him about the brake lines, to which he told me that he had to replace his in his 2004 suburban. Two other friends of mine that both have 2004 tahoes, had to replace their brake lines due to the exact issue. My brother-in-law has a 2006 Silverado, he replaced his lines last year, again for the same problem! this is a major safety issue and gm won't stand behind thier own product? I have been a gm owner since I could drive. I won't be anymore! I am very disappointed that a recall or some type of action is not being done.

Pushed the brake pedal and was not able to stop due to a blown brake line. This was my first incident, but the second for the truck. This issue occurred when my father owned the truck and he had gm replace the brake lines. I had gm replace the brake lines for a second time. It's very scary not being able to stop a vehicle, but luckily I was on a highway and was able to drift over to the shoulder.

62 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

My brake pedal went to the floor due to a rusted brake line. I was able to stop but very scary. Upon inspection I realized every metal line in the truck is rusted and either already leaking or will be soon. I've had 5 chevy trucks and never encountered anything like this with any of them. If I want to keep my truck safely on the road that I still owe $10,000 on, I am now faced with the expense of replacing every brake line, the transmission cooler lines, the engine oil cooler lines, the power steering lines, pump and cooler, and the fuel lines. This is ridiculous! Chevrolet gets good money for these trucks and they obviously messed up on this design. The rust problem with the working parts under the truck is unbelievable. I should be able to get more than 100,000 miles out of a truck that cost $40,000! I am shocked that Chevrolet put a stainless steel exhaust on this truck that will last the life of the vehicle, but the high pressure fuel lines that can cause a fire or the brake lines that could kill my family are made of inferior rust prone materials! general motors should be ashamed and tuck their heads between their legs as they watch their loyal customers become loyal to another automaker that might have more reliable vehicles or at least stand behind their products and designs. Shame on them!.

63 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

As I was procedin towards a yield sign, my brakes seemed to have given out. The vehicle would stop but slowly and nearly caused me to get sideswiped by an oncoming vehicle. Upon returning home I saw a massive pol of brake fluid underneath the vehicle. Having another person hit the brakes I saw that the fluid was escaping from the metal brake line running underneath the cooling fans. The line was severely corroded by rust.

Was pulling a trailor with tractor and bushhog on it. 3 cars were stopped in front of me. The first one turning left. I went to stop. Brake pedal went to floor. Hitting the vehicle in front me, pushing that one into the one in front of that one. Upon inspection brake line under drivers floor had burst open due to rust. Tractor also came forward even being strapped down breaking the head gate on trailor. Gm needs to step up to the plate and fix this issue with these trucks. Very lucky no one was killed or injured.
