Failure Date: 01/12/2011

I have read in the internet that this problem is a widespread problems. It is sort of ridiculous to take off a battery to clean it . Put back on and nothing but hot air on passenger. My wife is pretty upset about this, she will not even drive in my truck anymore. What a crying shame!.

3 Battery problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/23/2009

2007 Chevrolet Silverado z71, 18,355 miles still under factory warranty. Driving down the road today at 45 mph, a/c on high since it was 90 degree's out and out of no where the cab starts filling up with smoke and a burning plastic smell coming from the passenger side vents and from under the dash on the passenger side. I quickly pulled over shut the truck off, took the keys out of the ignition, popped the hood and noticed the a/c was still on as I was getting out. I looked under the hood seen nothing. I went to the passenger side opened the glove compartment and smoke started rolling. A passer by stopped and luckily had a socket set so I asked to use it to disconnect the battery to get the a/c to shut off. The fire department arrived the same time the gentleman got back from getting his socket set out of his car and the fire department disconnected the battery for me as I was throwing my belongings out of the truck in attempt to save them from a fire. The smoke stopped when the battery was disconnected and the a/c shut off. I contacted the dealer since the truck is still under the factory warranty, they towed it in and said that this is a common problem in 2006-2009 gm fullsize SUV's & trucks. The blower motors burn up. I asked why they haven't been recalled and the service guy said he wasn't sure. They replaced the blower motor, blower resistor and connector. The old parts were literally melted and were actually on fire. If I would not have thought to disconnect the battery the entire truck would have been burned or suffered serious water damage from the fire department. This could be life threatening to people who do not know to unhook the battery or people who panic in situations like this. I pray this does not happen to an elderly person or anyone else for that matter. Gm needs to put out a recall regarding these issues. I have researched this issue on the web and found hundreds of these same exact complaints. Does it take a death before gm recalls these parts.

4 Battery problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/14/2009

Battery charging at incorrect / inconsistent levels, the gage will show battery charging at 15 or higher and suddenly change to 11 or lower. Vehicle has been at the dealership for service and the mechanics either do not check it or fail to acknowledge the issue. Today the dealer provided a bulletin stating that this is normal. This bulletin is dated July 2008; however the vehicle has been in the service department several times since for this issue. Additional issue is the back up warning feature; the vehicle has sensors that notify the driver when the vehicle is too close to an object, the sensors either fail to work altogether or signals the driver when it is too late. Have nearly backed up into people / other vehicles, to date no accidents. But the vehicle size it is difficult to know when an object is behind it; or how close it is.

5 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/27/2006

Bought 2003 Silverado 3500 4x4 used in 2006. It had 125,000 miles and ran great. In October 2006, the speedometer started reading inaccurately the oil and battery charge gauge are not accurate either. I consider this a safety issue. I received a letter stating, the instrument panel may be defective. The problem I have is the mileage. It is over the maximum allowed to replace the cluster. I have over 200,000 miles on my truck. The truck runs great and I would not think twice about taking long trips(over 2,000 miles) as I do because of my work. I don't think there should be a mileage limit at all. There is clearly a major problem with the cluster. I think there needs to be a recall period, not just a letter stating there is just a problem. Please look into this again. Thanks d. H.

9 Battery problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/08/2005

I woke up to a dead battery yesterday on my 1999 z71 Silverado. I jumped the vehicle and drove to the local auto parts store to replace the battery since it was the original and I did not want to get stranded in 0 degree weather. In route, my abs light came on and a loud motor sound came from under the vehicle. This noise did not cease once I turned the vehicle off. I replaced the battery & drove to my dealer. He opened the hood and pulled the abs fuse and said "you can fix it this way or the expensive way for $1500. " I plan on keeping the vehicle for a couple more years and drive three small children in this vehicle so safety is of my utmost concern. The dealer replaced the ecbm for over $1100. There are many complaints on this site as well as numerous other forums. This is not an isolated problem. Gm needs to do the right thing and issue at least a recall to inspect these units as they are in an area on the vehicle that is subject to road debris & corrosion. And ultimately reimburse any Silverado owners for expenses incurred to replace this unit. How many complaints does it take to get an action out of Chevrolet? hopefully they respond before someone gets hurt.

11 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/19/2005

2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The consumer stated the vehicle stalled while driving on the road. There were no warning lights that come on before this happened. This has happened every time under 50 mph. Was able to be pull over the vehicle and restarted it immediately. The dealership could not duplicate the problem. When the vehicle was restarted it voided the chips memory. This has happened six times. The consumer had the vehicle towed to dealer, and the dealership could not find the cause of the problem. The consumer sent Chevrolet a registered letter with the information, the claim was denied. The problem started on June 29, 2005, and the last time this happened was August 19, 2005. Every time this happened the consumer called the dealership. The dealer determined there was a lower cell n the battery and replaced it but the staling problem recurred. 14 Battery problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/02/2004

Battery connection leaked battery acid on the braking system tubing. The acid leaking onto the brake lines caused the brakes to fail. The dealer indicated that this was a common problem with these batteries.

15 Battery problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/14/2004

Factory battery with side-mounted terminals leaked acid onto wiper fluid well mounted below it causing well to crack and drain. Dealer replaced the wiper well, but recommended I replace the battery as well. I replaced the battery myself (instead of letting the dealership do it) on may 17, but not before the old battery had once again leaked acid and cracked the new wiper fluid well. Old battery casing was not cracked or otherwise damaged; acid appeared to leak directly out of the terminals. This appears to be a design flaw by either ac delco for the battery itself or by gm for not properly isolating the battery from vibration. Furthermore, the foam "diaper" the old battery was wrapped in indicates that gm was aware of a potential leak issue for this battery. The foam does nothing to hinder vibration. Most of my 40000 miles are highway miles, and I seldom go off-roading (unless the potholes on the interstates of SC count). Ak.

17 Battery problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/01/2002

Battery leaking acid on garage floor from positive terminal post of battery. I have been reading of many other similar complaints for Chevrolet tahoe/yukon of same year that has caused crashes due to brake line corrosion and subsequent failure. My dealer found battery leak, but did not inform me of any brake line inspection so I am not certain my vehicle is safe. I replaced battery myself and used baking soda and water to neutralize acid as per dealer instruction. (before installing new battery) I thought I should register complaint that this condition occured. Dt.

25 Battery problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/10/2001

Gm 1999 Silverado anit lock brake unit would not shut off even when truck was shut off. I tried to disconnect battery and burned fingers. To correct the failure pulled the fuse, but brakes do not stop good I have to press real hard to stop. The problem with the abs brake is that the pump motor is producing voltage spikes and the amplifier shorts and won't shut off drawing high current and anti lock brake failure and over heating of battery terminals causing burns when touched. This was so hot that the post came out of the battery. To correct the problem gm needs to change the amplifier to original failed 75 amp pump motor power amplifier with a double duty rated 104 amp (360 amp surge) device. Add a 600 watt high speed voltage suppressor to protect the ebcm and the new amplifier set from voltage spikes created by the pump motor and jump starts. I have not had this fixed on my truck because I have been waiting for a recall. When are you going to make them fix this. You have many listing of this failure on your site. Listed as brake lights on, abs etc. Ebay now has people who fix these modules one has over 400 satisfied customers. I this this may effect million of trucks. Incident date I would have to check for actual date.
