The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated they received a letter approximately one year ago from the manufacturer stating that the instrument panel warranty was extended to seven years and 70,000 miles. In addition, the contact was advised not to bring the vehicle in under the warranty unless the fuel gauge had completely failed. The contact stated that the speedometer had been stuck at 120 mph. Later, the speedometer independently dropped below zero and remained stuck there. In addition, the engine rpm gauge would fluctuate sporadically but the engine would not respond. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the failures were not covered under the extended warranty for the instrument panel and was advised that the entire instrument panel would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 116,000 and the current mileage was 117,000.
Speedometer started sticking at 60mph and then if the truck was restarted it would go back to 0 and start working again and then would stick again later. Well now it's just stuck at 0 and doesn't move at all. All the other gauges work properly though.

While driving normally I noticed my speedometer giving erroneous readings as high as 120 mph, and upon stopping, the speedometer stayed at the 35 mph. Position. After a few days, it returned to normal. Occasionally, the speedometer does not work for days at a time. I feel it is dangerous driving with a speedometer which is not reliable. Gm has refused to fix the problem and told me I am fully responsible for all parts and labor costs because my vehicle is out of warranty. Now, the volt-meter also does not work and the needle points down at a "6 o clock" position which is off the chart. This has been broken for several weeks now.
The instrument panel stopped working on my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. I found lots of complaints on this problem online. When I called the local dealer to see about getting my vehicle fixed they advised even though the mileage was old it was 4 month to old to be covered by the fix. They know they sold vehicles with bad instrument panels but are not fixing the problem.

Bad cluster (oil gauges and high temperature gauge) so far on a chevy Silverado 2003 should be a recall regarding this matter. What are they waiting for? thanks.
The speedometer on my 2005 Silverado is bad. I have 73,000 miles on it and have never driven so fast in my life. It started in may of 2009 and it corrected itself now we are facing the same issue. When reading up on this I find I am not the only one who is having this issue. Driving aprox. 30 but it says 120.
Speedometer malfunctioning. The new "0" seems to be somewhere around 20 to 25 mph. In researching the problem on the internet, I see that I had been fortunate that I hadn't had problems with the cluster before this. I have had sporadic malfunctioning in the temperature gauge for several months but I could live with that. . . The speedometer is a major problem.
Speedometer inoperative. Everytime the vehicle is driven I have no way of telling how fast I am traveling.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the speedometer was reading inaccurately. A local mechanic diagnosed that the instrument panel cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance with the repair. The failure mileage 43,000 and the current mileage was 63,900.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact was driving at approximately 40 mph and the speedometer indicated the mileage as 0 mph. The failure has occurred multiple times. The authorized dealer was informed twice because the vehicle was recalled. They stated that if the vehicle was not broken they weren't repairing it. One year later he took it back to the dealer because he started experiencing the failure with the speedometer and stated that they could not repair the failure because he was over the mile restriction on the warranty. The manufacturer stated that the contact would indeed have to repair his vehicle at his own expense. The vehicle has not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85000 and the current mileage was 110000.
2005 Chevrolet Silverado speedometer malfunction. Speedometer shows 120 mph regardless of whether vehicle is stopped or moving. Gm has recalled 2003 and 2004 models but refuses to include 2005 models. My local dealer quoted $700 for the repair.
Our speedometer in our 2003 chevy 1500 pick stopped working after we got a notice that was for the same problem but was only honored if it happened under 80k miles we never had the issue until we were at 99k miles. So my complaint is : is there anything we can do? we have 104k on the truck now.
I too have a 2004 Silverado. My speedometer went out . At first it registered zero. Later it went up to over 120 and stayed off the scale for the entire trip. This occurs now everytime I drive the vehicle.
2005 Chevrolet Silverado speedometer going crazy. Jumping from 0-180 mph getting stuck on different mph. Should be a recall notice.
Speedometer stuck at 45mph at a stop, while on the highway in a 65-70mph zone the speedometer increase to 110-120mph.
04 chevy Silverado spedo goes to 120 mph and stays there and will not go down.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving less than 55 mph, the contact smelled a chemical odor. She had a cigarette in the ashtray and smoke appeared from behind the ashtray. Speedometer on my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado sticks and intermittent, sometimes its shows me driving 120 mph when going 20 to 30 miles per hour. Have left it cool down, then start the engine numerous times for it to reset in 5 mph increments until it returns to 0 mph. Sluggish going to 0 mph when stopping at a stop sign etc. Definite safety issue since I don't know how fast I am going other than going with the flow, it is consistently doing these symptoms all the time now.
The speedometer on my 2005 chevy Silverado does not accurately display the speed of the vehicle. It may read anywhere from 0 to 120 mph regardless of the actual speed of the vehicle. I first became aware of the inaccurate readings while driving on the expressway at an indicated 72 mph. I noticed that I was passing the few other vehicles on the road and because of the speed at which I was doing so I checked the speed reading on my gps and found that I was doing almost 100 mph. This a safety issue. I am also aware of several other general motors trucks of the same year with the same problem. And also that the 2003 and 2004 gm truck have the same problem with the identical part for which gm has instituted a customer satisfaction recall.
I was driving and heard a pop. A couple of miles down the road noticed that my speedometer was way off. It said that I was doing over 100 when I was probably only going about 60. I search and noticed that this is very common with my truck. It's a 2004 chevy Silverado with about 33k miles on it. I contacted the service department and asked if it was covered under the extended warranty and she said they would have to scan it and contact the warranty company.
