Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 15 problems related to ignition switch (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving on the highway, the truck, for an unknown reason, shut down causing me to loose power steering and brake capability. I was able to shift into neutral and turn the key off and then back on again to re-start the truck. It has now happened several times and I have done the same thing each time to correct the problem. It happened once in 2002 then constantly 4-5 times a year and again today. Gm has told me in the past that they don't know what would cause that issue. I could not get my local Chevrolet shop manager to give me a straight yes or no answer regarding whether my problem is consistent with the issues being experienced by effected gm models with ignition problems. I believe it may be due to the recalled ignition switches as I have had the electrical system looked at and no one can seem to find an issue that would cause the truck to shut off randomly at highway speeds and then turn right back over after shifting to neutral!! I believe that the current recall does not cover all of the vehicles that are truly affected. I have had my family in the truck on several occasions when this has happened and have been fortunate to not have had an accident to this point.

Ignition switch and key came out of steering column while driving. When I pulled off road and parked, the ignition switch internals and key came off in my hand. Not able to shut engine off. Called onstar, they could not shut off engine. Truck was flatbedded to dealer while still running. Risk of steering wheel locking causing loss of control. Steering wheel makes clattering noise not connected to wheels at times. Instruments dimming and flashing when turning wheel at times.

While driving to work in heavy traffic, my 2010 Chevrolet Silverado with 27,000 mile suddenly lost power and slowed from 50mph to 25mph in a matter of seconds. Due to the extreme reduction in speed with out my brake lights being engaged, a vehicle following me had to make an emergency maneuver, turn in the right lane, and almost struck a third vehicle. Three warning messages were given that included, engine power reduced, traction control off and service stabilitrack. The vehicle started to run extremely rough and I pulled into a parking lot. While in the parking, lot I researched the above listed messages and found that several other owners have experienced the same problem that has been linked to the throttle body system and the intake. I then researched if any recalls have been issued for this vehicle. I found that a service bulletin was issued but not a recall. I was also surprised that this issue appears to have nothing to due with stabilitrack. I then limped the vehicle home at 20 mph. When the vehicle would shift from first to second gear it would lung forward violently. I later called the pitre GMC, in albuquerque nm, and spoke with a service representative. I asked him if a recalled had been issued for these vehicles in reference to this type of incident. He stated that he did not know of a recall but I could drive it down to their service department and they could check the codes on it. I was surprised by his response instructing me to drive an unsafe vehicle. I believe this issue needs to be addressed due to the likelihood of a motor vehicle crash that could result in sever injury or death. Hopefully gm and NHTSA will not wait until there are numerous deaths to address this problem. This is potentially as dangerous as the ignition switch issue that killed several people. I am a generational Chevrolet consumer, but that will probably change.

I have had to replace two door locks on the driver side door since purchase this vehicle brand new. I have had the vehicle lost function of the air control unit and then reset months later. I have taken the vehicle in once to program the computer and air control unit, which has gone out twice and then returned back to the correct functional air setting months later after supposedly programed while under warranty. Just recently it has started to give me a check engine light which states the ignition switch is having the wrong key, and the vehicle has been giving me other warnings with traction control, check gas cap, and the radio time clock resets itself. I had to replace a battery in this vehicle in it's 3rd year. Is this vehicle in trouble as all the other problems general motors have had???.

Yesterday on 4/10/2014 at 2:00pm I get into my 2007 chevy Silverado 1500 classic crew cab and start my truck. I notice that once I let go of the get it never returned to the on position from run/start position. The truck is running and unable to turn off. I had to go under the hood fuse box to pull the pcm fuse to shut the truck off. This how ever still left the truck on. It is now sitting in the shop in phoenix, az aaa owned and operated shop on 75th Ave and thunderbird. I will be requesting the parts after seeing and hearing the "ignition switch recall" of other gm vehicles.
2002 Chevrolet Silverado. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch problem. The consumer stated he experienced a problem with the ignition switch, from the time the vehicle was new. The switch did not malfunction all the time, and the last time the vehicle was taken to the dealer, they were unable to duplicate the problem. On 2 separate occasions, the vehicle would shut off briefly and then come back on. There were times, when he tried to start the vehicle, it would turn over, but it wouldn't start.
While driving in traffic the Silverado's, engine, power steer and power brakes shutdown completely. After the vehicle stopped. The automatic transmission was placed in park and the truck restarted normally. I took the truck to the dealer and they found no problem or code. The same event happened again about 3 months later while I was on an interstate driving about 70 mph. The I was able to bring the vehicle to a stop in the side of the road I then placed the transmission in park and the vehicle started normally. I believe ther is an issue with the ignition switch.

This relates to the vehicle recalls related to the ignition switchthis happened multiple times driving through the parking lot my vehicle would stop running completely before I knew unfortunately this was always at speed slower than5 miles per hour I did not experience this issue at traveling speeds however was very encouraged to remove the vehicle from my ownership due to this issue I had reported the issue to the car dealership as well as a nother auto mechanic neither of which were able to replicate the issue.
My truck shut off while driving on the freeway at freeway speeds. I was able to turn the truck back on and headed to a repair shop where I was notified it was the ignition switch which needed to be replaced. There was no warning prior to the incident (no issues with starting or shutting off while in motion).

Vehicle started by itself. There were no keys in it. Dealer serviced the vehicle and found no defects. While out of town the vehicle had been running on its own because consumer left the vehicle full of gas and found it half empty upon returning. This happened while consumer was in the vehicle, all gauges went wild.

The contact stated vehicle stalled intermittently. The dealer replaced the fuel pump on two separate occasions. This did not correct the problem. Also, the dealer replaced the ignition system. This replacement did not correct the problem again. The dealer could not find the cause for the problem. The vehicle is still having intermittent stalling. Problems.
