Dealer informed me that repairs would entail replacing hub and would cost $507. 00. I will conduct the recommended service procedure as per the recall myself. There is a problem with 2500 hd pickups of the same or similar nature to the existing recall. I saw a news article about gm vehicles having problem with the abs at low speeds. I have a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and I have to admit my vehicle has had this problem. The problem is only at low speeds. It is very concerning to me, especially when I want to stop and the vehicle will not allow me to. I have not had any accidents-yet, but I am certain accidents will occur as a result of this problem. I noticed a recall for this in some states, but not mn.
The contact states there is NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000 regarding the anti-lock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The vehicle was repaired.
At low speeds, (below 10 mph) the antilock braking system will engage (pulsing of brake pedal) on my 2002 1500 Silverado and make stopping distances dramatically greater in slippery conditions, even if only one wheel is on a patch of ice/snow. This leads to scary situations at stop signs/semiphores. I contacted gm, and they advised me that I live in a state (mn) that is not covered by the recall. I was advised that if the vehicle was repaired at a dealership, I may be eligible for reimbursement on a case-by-case basis. For now, I have removed the abs fuse to disable the abs system. I realize that the abs will not work at all, but at least I my stopping power will be predictable.
When applying the brakes at low speeds the anti-lock system engages and the vehicle is very hard to stop.
I own a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado VIN 1gcek19t71e308015. I have experienced brake loss with the pedal going to the floor with no braking action. The dealer has changed the master and done other work. None of this has corrected the loss of braking. This condition has been recognized under nhtsarecall 05v379000. This does not include my vehicle, although I have experienced the trouble described in the recall. I want the recall extended to include all vehicles of this type.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the abs anti-lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to VIN. As a result of the defect the contact's vehicle was involved in an accident. While pulling into the driveway the abs engaged and the vehicle went through the garage door. There was property damage, but no one sustained injuries. When the insurance company was contacted they told the contact that the police would not come to the scene of the accident since the accident occurred on the contacts property. Updated 02/24/06.
While braking at low speeds, maining decreasing from about 7mph to 5 mph the anti-lock brakes activate. When it activates, you have no brakes and it has almost caused several accidents. This has been happening for about a year now. Several people in my area are having the same problems with different years models also. This occurs every time you apply the brakes while coming to a stop.
Driving at slow speed in dry weather coming up to a line of traffic at a stop light. Applying the brakes the anti-lock mechanism kicked in and my braking ability was severely decreased to the point I almost hit the vehicle in front of me. I have not replaced and parts yet, but I have discovered recall 05v379000 that seems to be the culprit. For some reason minnesota is not included as a salt belt state. Believe me, there's plenty of salt applied to the roads in minnesota during winter.
Abs activates for no reason. Makes the truck take extremely long distance to stop. It happens every time you hit the brakes.
