Anti-lock brakes engaging at low speeds on dry pavement causing brakes to fail and vehicle to continue moving. After several near misses of other cars and buildings, the fuse has been removed to disable the system.
My '99 Silverado had the brake failure problem (anti-lock brakes not working at very low speeds) that I see is now being investigated. I took it to the chevy dealer, and was told it was a common problem. I was required to pay to have it fixed. I suspect this was never reported by gm.
Since I bought my 1500 series truck I have had problems with the braking system which the dealer said they could not duplicate. On 10-21-04 while pulling into my work location my brakes failed to stop my truck and ran into a chain-linked fence causing damage to the hood, light lenses, and bumper. A couple days later my brakes failed again putting me in the middle of an intersection with a truck skidding toward me. I have just had my truck inspected and the dealer passed my truck.
While driving at a low speed brakes failed. The emergency brake was the only thing that stopped the vehicle. Repairs were made on the hub. After repairs brakes failed again, consumer's vehicle rear ended another vehicle. V.
My abs has been acting up, I. E. Engaging when it shouldn't. Tonight, I was forced to come to a fast stop and pushed the brake in. The abs engaged, but then stopped and the pedal went to the floor, therefore I had no brakes. I rear-ended another car with a 17 year old girl driving. She ended up being taken to the hospital. I am curious to know if there are other cases such as this, including brake failure and abs problems. My vehicle is a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. I have 106,000 miles on it and have had minute braking issues for the past year or so. I hope that is this is an issue that it can be addressed. That way no more seventeen year old girls get hurt, and no more 26 year old males (myself) have to worry about them or the safety of others due to this type of failure. As far as the question about oem, if that means aftermarket equipment, then no, all my equipment came on the vehicle when I purchased it and nothing has been altered in any way.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in two collisions caused by brake failure. The first collision involved a vehicle making a u turn and consumer's vehicle traveling 40 mph was unable to stop and stroke the other vehicle. During the second collision consumer's vehicle was traveling at 35 mph, was unable to stop, and collided with another vehicle. Consumer contacted the manufacturer involving an upcoming recall, and was told that notification will take place in two-three weeks.
While driving at low speeds, the driver applied the brake pedal and the brakes failed. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it home. Intermittent brake failure at low speeds, brake pedal on dry pavement stiff non-responsive mashed pedal no brake response struck pedestrian dealer finds no problems changed brake fluid no change don't know what else to do.
I purchased a 2002 chevy Silverado ext cab 4wd (z71) in October of 2003. The truck had 23000 (+) miles on the odometer when purchased. On December 13 of 2003 while on my way to work and traveling at a speed of approximately 30 mph in a 45 mph zone, traffic began coming to a stop at a traffic stop. When I tried to apply the brakes there was a loud "grinding" noise and I was unable to depress the brake pedal. As I continued to apply manimum pressure to the brake pedal the pedal suddenly went straight to the floor accompanied only by a loud "vacuum" sound. This brake failure resulted in a six car collision with four injuries. Despite numerous similar complaints from other consumers, the manufacturer's representatives continue to claim that there is nothing wrong with the brake system and the "problem" does not require a recall - what a joke. Are they waiting until someone is fatally injured?.
While driving 20 mph brakes failed. Pedal would go to the floor, causing extended stopping distance. Had taken vehicle to dealership, but problem not resolved.
