Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 16 problems related to car throttle sticking (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Throttle body sticking on 1999 chevy Silverado. . . I previously reported a sticking throttle body on my truck when it was new. It stuck at the idle position and took considerable effort to get it to "unstick". The dealer replaced the throttle body claiming the original had a bur, that caused it to stick. Now, several thousand miles later, the new throttle body is exhibiting the same behavior. It seems obvious that I didn't have one defective throttle body, but all throttle bodys at the time had a defect. I know that there are many similar complaints. I do not want to pay to replace what gm knows is defective. Please look into this matter further. . . .

I have a 2002 Silverado Chevrolet 1500 short bed (~50k mi) with a sticking throttle body. I have approached eldorado Chevrolet twice about having the problem remedied. They have told me that cleaning the throttle body is a routine maintenance issue- and that it is my responsibility to take care of this. The thing is, the owner's manual does not give a mileage or time frame in which this item should be inspected and/ or cleaned!! I've read numerous consumer reports and testimonials from other chevy owners complaining of the same problem. Gm customer service tells me that additives in the gasoline in my area (north texas) cause carbon to build up in the throttle body causing the gas pedal to stick. I have several friends who live in my area and who own Chevrolet pickups. None of them have a problem with their gas pedal sticking!! this is a serious problem for which gm needs to take responsibility! if I do clean the throttle body, the problem is likely to reoccur. I guess gm will suggest I lobby to have the texas oil producers change the chemical makeup of their petroleum products!! I hope more people experiencing this problem come forward- I feel this should definitely be a recall issue. Thank you,
robert laughon.

My 1999 Silverado has developed a sticking throttle off idle creating a potential hazard in heavy stop and go traffic.
While driving at any speed the throttle sticks.
Throttle sticking right off idle. Very hard to depress accelerator pedal. Truck "leaps" when pedal finally "frees-up". Has happened several times. Took vehicle to dealer. . . Dealer unaware of any bulletin to repair properly. Dealer ran injector cleaner through the fuel system and replace fuel filter. This did not fix the problem. . . Dealer did not repair according to the service bulletin available.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and without warning the throttle will stick and the vehicle will accelerate and it will be hard for the consumer to get control of the vehicle to decelerate. Dealer notified. Mr.
Throttle sticks at idle position. I almost launched my boat and truck both into the lake due to the excessive force required to operate the throttle. I took to dealer to complain, and they said I would have to pay to get it cleaned. I did. Now under a year later the problem is coming back. I think this is a safety defect that should be fixed via a recall before people get killed.

Throttler sticks. Dt.
Throttle started to stick as pressing down. It made tires spin and vehicle jump. Dealer found no recall, but told consumer they would add some lubrication. Consumer wasn't sure what was done, but problem seemed to be corrected.
Ongoing/intermittent problems with throttle sticking. Vehicle been to dealer on two occasions and problem reoccurring. The vehicle was taken in for repairs on a sticking throttle. The problem was repaired but consumer was informed by the technician that it was ongoing with these vehicles and it would happen again.
After pickup has been driven for a few minutes, like to a shopping center, and the engine is stopped. Upon restarting engine the throttle will stick, requiring an estamated 30 to 80 pounds pressure to activate. Then, it will suddenly depress causing the pickup to "jump. " this is dangerous, particularly backing out into traffic or trying to back to hitch a trailer.
Throttle sticks at idle position at random times. This has been a problem since the vehicle was new. The dealer attempted to repair but said they found nothing wrong. Vehicle is currently at dealership attempting a second repair. Sticking suspected to be at the throttle body assembly, not the pedal. According to shop manual, vehicles with high mileage can exhibit this problem when egr gases cause deposits on the throttle body. Also have noticed multiple TSB's regarding the egr valve. Suspect that there might be a correlation.
Problems with throttle body sticking. The idle was rough, therefore the throttle body was adjusted. The vehicle knocked loud on cold start. The consumer was unsure if the problem was the throttle body or the piston slap. The throttle body was cleaned and did not stick at that point. The consumer requested an extended warranty free of charge until the problem was resolved. Scc.
Excessive effort was needed in order to accelerate, throttle sticking. The throttle body had to be replaced.
