3 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

I pulled out of a parking lot on to a city street and pressed the gas pedal a little, planning to get up to about 25 mph because there was a red light a block away. The truck responded as if I had floored the pedal. I took my foot off of the pedal and the truck kept accelerating at full throttle. I hit the brakes thinking the cruise control had gone nuts, but hitting the brakes would not turn it off. It kept accelerating with the tach over 5000. I shifted to neutral and the engine speed dropped down to idle. The light turned green and I shifted back to drive and the engine immediately started accelerating again at full throttle. I put it back in neutral, moved over to the shoulder and turned the key off. Then I started the engine again and the problem disappeared. I'm 72; if my wife had been driving by herself, she probably would have had a serious wreck. The truck is a 2014 Silverado, bought 4 weeks ago, 6 cylinder work truck.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

Driving through utah at posted speed limit of 75 with cruise control on, the speedometer suddenly started to indicate a deceleration from cruises speed to 30 mph. My vehicle did not physically slow as evidenced by my gps which continued to show actual speed of 75 mph. Disengaging the cruise control did slow the vehicle when the actual speeds were 50+/- mph than indicated on speedometer. Stopping my vehicle and turning the ignition off apparently reset something? immediately restarting my pickup seemed to remedy the problem for a short period of time. This speedometer problem has persisted for over one year requiring the continual use of gps to confirm my actual speeds. I have a significant cause of concern when indicated speeds are significantly faster than indicated. I contacted gm dealership, only to be told they have no idea of the problem and would not confirm the continual problem. In conjunction with the speedometer problem I'm also experiencing problems with the the fuel tank levels. Gauges indicate 1/2 tank, however when fueled at that level the tank required nearly 20 gallons of fuel to full. Again the gm dealership was not concerned with the safety problem. Online searches of similar problem have indicated many Chevrolet Silverados are experiencing similar safety problems.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/05/2005

While driving on I-75 north comming from florida after crossing the georgia state line driver made stop at the rest area, when I resumed trip the cruise control failed to engage,a few miles later in heavy traffic the cruise control engaged on it's own. Almost causing a accident, this truck has had nothing but problems since the day it was bought, anymore problems this truck will be parked and tiltled only for my safty and the safty of others on the road. Seems to me after 100 years of auto building general motors could get it right,OH by the way the local dealer said he could not find anything wrong with the cruise control,I have no doubt if this had been a cash fex instead of a warrenty problem they would have found the problem.

The cruise control was in the off position. Pumping/applying brakes did not clear accelration only slowed vehicle. Stomping of accelerator 3 times released accelerator. Approximately 3 minutes later the above problem occurred again. Accelerator cleared on again by stomping accelerator. Dealer could not duplicate problem.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/04/2000

Set cruise @ 67mph level ground (apporx 1900rpm) run for ~10-15 mins. Go up sufficient grade for cc to force downshift to next lower gear and increase in rpm to 3000+. Upon cresting hill and going down gradual downgrade the vehicle will upshift but the cruise control will reset its setpoint to ~ 4-5 mph greater than original. Subsequent hills will keep repeating until test terminated above 75mph. Repeatabiloity is variable based upon grades of subsequent inclines. First reset to +4 mph is consistent.

14 Cruise Control problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Silverado

Once the engine has warmed up with the air conditioning compressor off, cruise control off and driving with the engine rpm between 1500-2000 rpm(regardless of which gear is selected)and you let your foot off the accelerator pedal the engine remains at the rpm it was at when you let off the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal is returning completely up and I inspected the truck per NHTSA campaign id # 96v057000 and the pedal is not sticking. I have taken it in to the dealer once and they could not find a fault codes on the computer but they reset the computer anyway and the problem went away for a few days and then got progressively worse again. A felloew coworker has a 1997 version of the same truck and has the same problem. It is very dangerous in heavy traffic when you let off the accelerator expecting the vehicle to slow down, but it does not!.

15 Cruise Control problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Silverado

The cruise control was set for 50mph and the vehicle accelerated over 90mph the driver applied the brakes and the gas pedal, but the vehicle would not stop. Owner had to literally stand on the brakes, and put the vehicle in park to get it to stop. The wheels were still spinning even with emergency brake on. When car was started back up the wheels were still spinning at a high rate. Dealer had fixed the vehicle, but problem occurred again.
