Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 57 problems related to accelerator pedal (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
There is a high effort at the gas pedal on when the vehicle is cold. Sometimes this effort is so great that when backing or in a parking lot, I must apply force then the vehicle lurches forward. This has been happening for a number of years since I purchased the vehicle new in October of 1999.

The ongoing problem that I am experiencing is with the accelerator pedal. After the truck has been parked for a brief period of time and only when first starting out ; I have to apply excessive pressure to make the pedal go down. It seems as if it is stuck. This can be quite unnerving when parked in close proximity to other vehicles . I have to tap it firmly and quickly so as not to maintain pressure on the accelerator and accelerate unnecessarily. This is an intermittent problem but is becoming more common as the vehicle ages . * incident date does not apply to this complaint based on the fact that it is an ongoing occurrence.
Gas pedal sticks. As more and more pressure used to engage, truck lurches ahead . Dealer performed fuel system flush for $93. 00 but did not correct problem.

Gas pedal does not move after applying pressure to pedal. When pedal moves it causes a surge of vehicle.
Fuel throttle hang-up since purchase in 2000. Dealership performed carbon cleaning 3 times however issue does not rectify. Must "pop" at the fuel pedal in order to get the vehicle moving thus causing a lurching forward of vehicle. No further help offered by dealership or chevy corporate but to continue to have carbon cleaning ($85/service).
Consumer complained that vehicle was maintaining the same speed after releasing the accelerator pedal. Speed would continue for 3 seconds or more before the speed was reduced. Vehicle had been to two separate dealers, and both agreed that was the normal characteristic of that vehicle.

The accelerator is sometimes very difficult to press down. When it finally does, it causes a sudden lurching of the vehicle. This is a very dangerous situation.
Today and everyday my throttle locks up when attempting to accelerate from a stop. I have had many close calls when trying to maneuver through traffic. I live in a very large city and it is very important to be able to go when you need to. I have nearly been hit trying to stomp on the accelerator when it doesn't respond and I am trying to move into oncoming traffic. I have also nearly ran into many objects moving, and stationary, becouse of the sudden acceleration when the throttle finally decides to let loose. Why won't gm stand behind their products and repair this? is it going to take another firestone tire type fiasco to get a recall?.
My 2001 Silverado 1500 the gas pedal sticks. I have to really push down hard to get it to move. This is also happening on my husbands new 2004 silveravo 1500. This has been happening for more than 2 years. It is getting so bad that I am almost afraid to drive it.
While driving 40 mph consume r applied the accelerator pedal and it became stuck. Then, consumer applied the accelerator pedal several times and vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and contacted the dealer. Mechanic determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced.
Sticking gas pedal. Throttle body problem causes gas pedal to stick. When at a stop, a lot of pressure is often required to move pedal. Pedal "unsticks" and causes vehicle to lurch forward or backward. At highway speeds, "unsticking" causes truck to accelerate at a faster rate than intended. Chevy dealer replaced throttle body once (45k miles), but problem has returned (80k miles).
Throttle sticks in the closed position. You then need to push it very hard to go. Sometimes it causes you to lurch out in traffic. Have paid dealer to fix once, but did not help. I am aware of 3 1999 chevy Silverado trucks. All have same complaint.

Trying to ease forward in bumper-to-bumper traffic, accelerator pedal is rigid. Upon putting more pressure, truck lurched forward hitting another vehicle's bumper. Intermittently throttle will stick when accelerating. Dealer has not been notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
When putting foot on gas pedal it got stuck and vehicle acellerated uncontrolleably. Dealership was aware of problem.
80% of the times that you attempt to mome from a stop the accellerator hangs up and you have to exert tremendous pressure on the accellerator pedal to break it loose. The only safe way to do this is to put the vehicle out of gear. This can be very dangerous in traffic. I believe the manufacturer should repair this defect at no cost to me even though the vehicle is out of warranty.
When starting engine, the gas peddle will stick. You have to apply foot pressure to break it loose. The car will lurch forward. This truck has been doing this for a while.

Consumer states engine reved up and consumer put emergency brake on. Vehicle still would not stop. Consumer had to shut engine off. Nlm consumer states even after shutting off engine and restarting, the acceleration continued.
