Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 57 problems related to accelerator pedal (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 2001 Silverado truck has had a sticky gas pedal since new. It is nearly impossible to put the vehicle into motion once the transmission is engaged in 'drive'
due to a gas pedal that is stuck. I have to place an incredible amount of pressure to get the throttle to unstick and feed gas to the engine. This results in an abrupt, jolting start.

When pressing on gas it does not engage, it is sticking in throttle body. When it did engage, it caused vehicle to take off at a rapid acceleration. Took to dealer, and they cleaned throttle body, and problem stopped for a couple of months, but it did not correct the problem.
When consumer applies gas pedal it sticks, he has to press very hard to get vehicle to accelerate, when vehicle accelerates it jumps and could cause an accident.

When I purchased the truck, the throttle would stick when started. This occurred only every 2 months or so until 40,000 miles. Now it does it every time I start the truck unless I press the gas pedel down. It also does it sometimes when I slow down. As for the parking brake, I had to replace it last year. The dealer said I must have driven with it on. I knew that was a crock, but spent 300. 00 to have them replaced. Now they are gone again. There is definatly something wrong with this parking brake system. What does it take to have chevy admit there is a proble? roger siddall.
Increased accelerator pedal effort caused by sticking parts in throttle body. Chevrolet tbsooo6o4 confirms the problem but does not offer help to owner.
Gas pedal sticks. Makes truck jerk quickly forward in drive gear, or jerk quickly backward when in reverse. The part was replaced at about 34000 miles, however the same problem happened again at 67000 miles. Less than 34000 miles again. This is a severe problem with the gas pedal sticking. It is hard to park the truck, back the truck up, or start movement of the truck in tight places. The truck could lurch out of control and hit another car in front or rear. The gas pedal has to be stomped to get it unstuck. This could lead to an uncontrolled acceleration.
When applying force to accelerator pedal there would be a high level of resistance behind pedal. Consumer would have to continue applying additional force to pedal to prompt acceleration. Dealership examined vehicle, and determined throttle body would stick in closed position, causing this problem and preventing smooth acceleration. Problem was corrected with this repair. However, problem has appeared again in beginning of November 2001. Dealership has not examined vehicle for the recent problem. Please provide any additional information / attachments.
2001 Silverado w/5300--I have had to have the throttle unstuck twice and the carbon junk cleaned out twice from my truck in less than 80000 miles and it still knocks. I see all kinds of service bullitins and notice hundreds of complaints of sticking, engine rattle at startup andd yet you let gm off time and time again. When are you end the noise and make them file a recall!!!!.
Consumer called complaining about having throttle problems. While driving throttle will stick to the floor. It doesn't happened all the time, but he is afraid that may cause him to get into an accident. Manufacturer5 was not dcontacted. Dealer was contacted, and stated that GMC ha addressed the issue. But it would cost the consumer if it was not broken, and the warranty will not replace it unless broken.
From early after we purchased the vehicle, we have had trouble. When you take your foot off the accelerator, it will oftentimes not slow down and sometimes even speed up. We have taken it to bale Chevrolet on several occasions and told they could find nothing wrong. We wrote to Chevrolet who contacted paul wilkerson at bale Chevrolet who told them the vehicle is "operating as designed" even though he was aware of the problem and his mechanics had driven the vehicle around their parking lot at 40 mph without using the accelerator. We recently took it to another dealership and they informed us that gm/Chevrolet was aware of the problem, but no fix had been found for it. This problem is, in my opinion, a safety hazard not only to us as the owners, but to others on the road as well. It seems that if gm/Chevrolet was aware of the problem, they would have at least notified all the dealerships and owners and given us some options for remedy.

Consumer state when depressing the gas pedal to gain speed consumer would have to use force to depress the pedal without any indication pedal would become stuck. Please provide further information. Ts.
After making stops when depressing gas pedal to return to normal consumer has to apply force to get vehicle on its way. Please provide further information.
Throttle sticks intermittently. Dealer has not been able to duplicate problem.
When starting accelerator pedal/ throttle stuck in the closed position. Accelerator pedal had to be depressed with great pressure to release the pedal, causing the vehicle to lurch forward. The cause of the problem had not been determined.
When accelerating, consumer states gas pedal has to be press about 3 quarters of an inch before vehicle will move. This sometimes causes vehicle and to stall and the possibility of being rear ended. Please provide any further information. Ts.

After turning engine off throttle sticks. Consumer would have to apply pursuer to disengage throttle. Please provide further information.
Gas pedal will stick and is very hard to press down on acceleration. Causes truck to spin tires and lunge forward.
When driving and upon depressing the accelerator pedal, the pedal got stuck, did not return, causing unwanted and unexpected acceleration. The dealer cleaned the fuel injector to correct the problem.
While driving 45 mph and without warning accelerator pedal will start vibrating violently. Mechanic stated there was a design flaw, and manufacturer has been notified.
The vehicle has a hard throttle when pressed, consumer states the throttle has to be pressed very hard, then vehicle will take off unexpectedly. Often nearly hitting another vehicle. Consumer states carbon has built up around the brake pedal. Dealer will clean off the carbon. Please provide any further information. Ts.
Increased pedal effort from idle position, I am afraid that if I am close to something or someone I will run into it! I am always spinning the back wheels because of this problem. I believe since Chevrolet is aware of this problem by issuing a bulletin, why don't they replace for free on non warrantied vehicles.
