1 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/23/2013

Last month after driving about 1 hour at highway speeds; my speedometer started dropping. It would show I was going 35 on the freeway. This was clearly not accurate. The needle started jumping then dropped to 0. The next day, it was working fine. The next 2 long distance trips I took, the speedometer did the same thing on the way home; not on the trip down. I took my truck to the dealership and was told that it was some sort of cable to the transmission; that there had been a lot of trouble with the speedometer and that there had been a previous recall but it was too late. Bottom line the charge to repair is 440. 00. I purchased this vehicle new and it currently has 130,000 miles. I never received any type of recall notice, I live in the same place I did when I purchased the truck, absolutely nothing has changed. How is it too late? if the part is defective, it is defective. If I had received a recall notice to have it fixed I certainly would have taken it in. This is a serious safety issue.

2 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/01/2007

The 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 43000 miles and the speedometer stopped working and did not register anything. I looked online for recalls and found none pertaining to this. However, I found 208 similar complaints on topix. Net/forum/autos/Chevrolet-silverado-1500/tr5qab2mn19bl1d2j/p11#lastpost. Obviously this was a danger and Chevrolet should be issuing a recall. All estimates range around 500. 00.

3 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/03/2005

The gas peddle gets stuck and does not press down to accelerate. I have to try to mash down on the gas peddle several times for it to work. I was told the problem was the throttle valve cable was messed up and needed to be replaced and that there was carbon buildup. The mechanic that tried to fix it said he drained black gunk out of it.

7 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Gas pedal sticks if foot is removed for any reason, be it coasting into a turn, starting out from a stop. Speed of vehicle does not matter. When the foot pedal engages there is sudden excelleration, cause passengers head to wipe forward. On icy conditions this has become a danger in itself. At the gas station inching up to pump it has locked up and lunged forward almosting hitting a vehicle in front. I have notifed the dealership. I have also spoke to three other people who have this same, year, make and model and all say they have the same problem. Two of them have had repairs done on the gas pedal. Window on driver side (electric) was being rolled up half way up window cable broke and window slammed down inside door. Both passenger and drivers doors seem loose when rolled down as you can hear them rattleing inside. Controls are intermittent and when temperature drops below 30 degrees don't work. Passengers window 11/17/2000 wont not go up or down during temperature below 30. Vehicle was not subhect to elemints as it was inside for repair to driver window. New motor and regulator need after 1 1/2 years. Dealer informed no information.

8 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

The throttle sticks (hangs up) from the idle position causing dangerous jack rabbit lunges from zero speed. Throttle cable retaining ring sticks in guide sleeve.

When driving at 55 mph and upon acceleration there was vibration in accelerator pedal which caused driver's distraction. Consumer has contacted dealer. Driving at 1100 rpm accelerating or deaccelerating causes vibration from the engine area.
