Had two chevy Silverados that develop intake and water pump gasket failure on a 4. 3 liter engine. Both develop coolant leak through the gasket. The latest was in November on my 2004 chevy Silverado. Upon checking the owners manual in regards to the dexcool coolant it clearly states that this coolant will burn if spill on a hot engine. It that the case then why can it burn it the intake gasket fail and coolant is leaking in the engine. I had a 2000 chevy Silverado with intake gasket failure and also a 2004 chevy with gasket failure. Both vehicles I had repaired my concern it the gasket failure on these gm products vehicle that no one at Chevrolet seems to care. Both vehicles gasket failure occurred around the mid 60,000 miles range. I am concern about the failure of these gaskets that causing the coolant to leak. Apparently there is a problem with the gasket or the coolant that causing the gasket to fail. I would like someone to check into the problem of the gasket failure on gm products. Especially the 4. 3 liter engines. I concern that according to the owners manual the dexcool coolant can burn on a hot engine then can it cause a fire on the engine while driving if the intake manifold gaskets and the water pump gasket keeps failing. I had two different year model chevy Silverado with 4. 3 liter engine, a 2000 and 2004 Silverados where both engine got around 65,000 miles and the gaskets failed on both engine. No one can explain how this occurred. But there must be defect in the gasket design or the coolant is causing the problem.

Starting at around 50,000 miles and during routine driving conditions I noticed a scent of anti-freeze emanating from under hood. At first unable to locate leak and continued to drive vehicle. At around 69,000 miles leak became apparent and was leaking from the water pump. Dealer assessed the problem and proceeded to inform me the repair would be $670. Fortunately I had an extended warranty up to 75,000. Vehicle now fixed and operating properly.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle restarted automatically after several seconds. The failure began approximately in August of 2007 and has occurred numerous times since. The number of failures increase as the weather gets colder. Chevrolet stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The current and failure mileages were 80,000.
A "low coolant" warning was displayed & I had to add coolant frequently. The intake manifold gasket had to be replaced at a substantial cost. I understand that the manufacturer had issued a service report that replacement gaskets would be different. I looked at the new one to be installed and it is made of metal and rubber. The original is made of plastic and rubber. Obviously the metal against metal will make a better seal than plastic against metal. This has occurred in the last 6 months on a 2000 Silverado 1/2 ton and a 2001 Silverado 1/2 ton extended cab. I drive both vehicles daily.
2000 Silverado heater hose broke off at the firewall connector. The part was made of plastic (nylon. The replacement part was made of the same material.

While pulling my trailer my truck overheats and when it gets hot it will take all the power from the motor making a hazard and a safety issue. I have been taking it to the dealer for one year and the say nothing is wrong with it.
My '04 chevy Silverado hd2500 with duramax overheats when towing.
Actuator for split climate control (drive/passenger) blows hot when a/c is on and temperature shows that cab should be cool. This has happened several times since I bought the truck.
I have two general motors vehicles. A 2000 Silverado truck and a 97 olds silhouette. Both of these have v6 engines and now I am being told that both of them have intake manifold leaks. The antifreeze is leaking outside of the intake, and in the case of my truck, probably into the engine. I am being told three different mechanics, that this is a very common problem with the v6. And after voicing my complaint, found that my brother-in law, has had the same problem. I called the general motors number in the manual and told them that I was upset with the problems and they said that because one is a 97 with 62000 miles, it is two old and that my truck has to many miles (112000). Yet everyone tells me that it is the plastic intake manifolds that gm uses that is the problem.
The brakes on my truck do not stop the truck in a reasonable distant. When I pulled off the wheels you could see where the pads on the front wheels were almost gone, but the rear shoes were hardly worn. I did change the front pads. I also have the sticking gas pedal problem which I have had the dealer work on with no results.
No crash. Low coolant light illuminated. Added coolant a couple of time and light would reappear after a week or so of driving. Dealer examined truck and found head gaskets leaking from loose head bolts and apparently factory defect. Cost of $1100 to repair. Mileage at 65,000. First repair.
I purchased a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab from my local dealer (register chervrolet, brooksville, FL) in October of 2003. When I purchased the vehicle I was pretty much led into buying the "extended warranty" for my truck which they said would cover anything that was to happen, all I would have to pay is my deductible. In June of 2004 after driving to ft. Myers to visit friends, my engine stalled, lost oil pressure and the warning lights went off. Not wanting to harm the engine I braked and turned the vehicle off. With me were witnesses; my mom who is a disabled, parapalygic, and my brother and sister. I called the Chevrolet help line and they had no record of my warranty on file and were not willing to help me get a tow truck that should have been covered. I ended up having a friend call and get my vehicle towed through their aaa to my home. I finally arrived home at 1:30 am! the next day I had it towed to register Chevrolet and they said they would look at it and let me know. Rememeber, I was told that anything would be covered so I was at ease knowing it would be fixed and I wouldnt have a huge bill. Boy was I wrong there. When they finally did get along to calling me they told me it would be $207. They said it wasnt a warranty item and so they would not reimburse me for towing as well as repairs! ok, all they did was re-route the ac run off, which because it was designed poorly had rotted the distributor cap. This is what I was told and it was written on the bill I got. If this has happened to me I am sure that it has happened to others, so I even if it was not covered by their warranty I do believe it should be a recall item. All I want is the difference back as well as the towing charges paid. I have all reciepts for this matter. Thank you!.

Since purchase of vehicle continual costs to keep vehicle running has almost exceed the value of the vehicle. Repair costs from $3,200. 00-$3,900. 00 and continue to increase. Any future repairs will now exceed the purchase value of the vehicle. Due to the incapacity of the truck my lost wages have exceeded or will exceed $10,000. 00. Being a single parent of two young children and having lost my job due to the vehicles incapacitate has caused insurmountable pain and suffering to the necessary day to day functions to my family. My once fair credit report has been ruined. One of my main reasons for agreeing to take out a auto loan was to help achieve a favorable credit rating to obtain a mortgage loan in the near future which is no longer an option. There is currently a investigation and class action suite pending by the vermont state attorney's generals office against william dydo jr. (dydo auto sales. Although I hope to be part of this suit I will not be compensated for pain and suffering. Thank you.

I have a 1998 chevy Silverado 4x4 1 ton pickup. I was having terrible over heating problems, suddenly while on the highway one day and I stopped and opened the radiator it looked like black sludge. After taking it to be fixed I find it is the coolant that chevy installs called dexcool and it is causing all kinds of problems for most chevy consumers. What can we do? I have to have a new engine after they emptied out 1/2 gallon of the sludge from my vehicle. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you, mr w. J. Bryant.

103,000 miles on 2001 chevy. Silverado p/u, 4th time that brakes need to be replaced, anti lock noise was constant since taking delivery from dealer. Was told this was normal sound. I don't think so. Many close calls for rear end collisions which would have been my fault esp. At speeds as low as 30 mph. Just found out that there may be a problem. Also, antifreeze complaint with smell. Smell makes us nauseous . Faucet -running sound coming from just below dash but under hood, paid dealer to fix twice, went back to gm dealer to try and remedy for the third time since it was still under the shops warranty and of course no longer in business. Last complaint, daytime running lamps need to be replaced all the time. Replaced one day, less than 48 hours later, need to be replace again. Rusted from water in headlamp.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
When I have my plow on the truck it will over heat and fog up allthe windows. The windows fog up so fast and so much that it is hard to pull off the road because you cant see. I told the dealer about this last year and they said that if they did not see it happen they could not fix it. As soon as I put my plow on this year it did it again . Now the dealer said that they have had other complaints about it and they don't know how to fix it . They said it is a design flaw with my truck. They are trying to find a way to fix it but in the mean time I am driving my family around in an unsafe vehicle. Dt.
After stopping in driveway, heater hose disconnected from firewall losing lg qty of coolant.
