Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 20 problems related to engine exhaust system (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
After discovering an exhaust leak performed a visual inspection of the engine. I have a 2004 Silverado with the 6. 0l. I Ave discovered that there are an abundance of these vehicles out there with the same problem. This is causing exhaust fumes to enter the engine compartment ans cab of the vehicle.

After buying my truck I noticed a "tick" noise from the exhaust on my truck. After taking my truck to the shop I was told that my exhaust bolts into the engine were broken. This in hand made me fail the emission test and costing me alot of money. After research it is stated in many places that this is a common occurrence with these chevy models, and chevy refuses to do anything about polluting the environment and costing it owners money in thing that should not break ever.

Tires developed bubbles, and the steel belts are visible in places. Also, exhaust system is designed with the pipes sitting directly on top of the spare tire.

Exhaust leaks due to poor design. Nlm.
The consumer took the vehicle to be inspected. This is when the mechanic noticed that the front wheel bearings on the left and right side needed to be replaced. There was three inches of looseness up and down, left and right on both wheel because of bearing failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they agreed that the bearing were worn. The vehicle had exceeded the 36000 mile warranty by about 200 miles, therefore the consumer had to pay for the repairs. The consumer was also informed that there were no grease fittings which is why the bearings had to be replaced. Manifold/gasket leaked due to poor design.
On 3 of the only 4 occasions I have had to drive this vehicle at 70 mph for any extended period when outside temperatures exceeded 90, the following symptoms have manifested: loud engine knock sufficient to shake vehicle and discharge of large cloud of gray (not the black as is typical for a diesel) smoke. Numerous cars have driven off the road behind me to avoid the cloud of smoke that obscures their vision (and possibly to avoid parts from a motor they may think has blown up). Vehicle is presently at king Chevrolet, tyler, texas for 2nd time (not selling dealer) and had been at one other dealer; lewis Chevrolet, canton, texas. Problem has not been diagnosed. Dealers say that gm technicians say problem is unique - no other owners have reported this problem. Problem has been reported to gm which has assigned the complaint file #4913340. At time of this filing, it is unknown what, if any action GMC intends to take. I regard these symptoms as potentially hazardous to occupants of my vehicle. I regard the large and sudden exhaust discharges as being seriously hazardous to other motorists.

Mileage now 100000 dealer now identified evo sensor to be faulty. The number of these failures on the NHTSA is extensive is a manufactuerer recall in effect? my opinion is further investigation is mandatory to avoid catastrophic failures and injury.
Consumer experiencing problem with vehicle making loud noise sounds while vehicle is running; dealer notified, and informed consumer that the problem is a defective air intake valve which they can repair, but will void engine warranty if they repair it.
The air pump valve is causing a whining noise in the engine . Dealer cannot determine defect.
Truck makes engine noise (best described as exhaust noise and/or spark knock and/or ping) that is mainly audible between 1000 - 2000 rpm, and is loudest at 45 - 55 mph under light acceleration going uphill.
There is a very strange odor in the passenger's compartment, cause unknown. Consumer believes that odor come in the vent system at openings both ends of hood seal.
