Gasoline Engine Problems of Chevrolet Silverado - part 1

Engine will cut-off while driving without warning at both high and low speeds. Immediate engine restart may or may not be possible. Problem has occurred for approximately one year w/o permanent failure and w/o useful diagnostic codes. Frequency of failure has increased to 2-3 times per week. Several accidents have been narrowly avoided while in heavy, high-speed traffic. No discernible failure pattern has been identified, to date. Engine cut-off can occur at any time. This vehicle is a Silverado 2500hd truck w/8100 vortec engine and allison automatic transmission.

Throttle pedal sticks at idle, when I push on the throttle truck jumps forward. This started about 55,000 miles and now have 63,000. The problem happens daily, but not all the time.

2002 chevy Silverado 4. 3 engine has knock when starts up ,also has diesel sound and vibrates between 15 to 25 mph.

Engine light stays on all the time. Consumer feels there may be a serious problem with engine because oil needs to be changed every 7000 miles. Please provide any further information.

Consumer states there is something wrong with the engine. The oil pressure would not remain constant, instead it bounced up and down.

I too have the piston slap problem with my 2002 Silverado hd 6. 0l engine. I took it to the dealer at about 2400 miles and was handed a technical bulletin that was dated from 1999 (problem has been known since then) telling me that gm is working on a "fix". They did want to look at the truck to make sure nothing else was wrong. There is no "fix", just an extended warranty on the engine alone even though I already paid for the extended warranty for the entire vehicle. You cannot get the warranty agreement mailed to you to look it over, they will only send it if you agree to accept it over the phone. Bought the truck in good faith and was sold a lemon. Maybe if their profits were affected by a recall they might think twice about stealing and lying to consumers.

While driving, consumer heard a noise. When vehicle comes to a complete stop it vibrates. Took to dealership and motor was out of balance.

There have been repair attempts none have been fully sucessful. No safety defect listed.

On 12-2002 oil light came on check dip stick no oil then 8-2003same thing happen this time service tech came out put 3qt in.

Engine knocks very badly at cold or hot start up. Knocking lasts for minutes. Chevrolet says they know about problem. States that the piston skirts are too short causing piston wobble. They also start they can't fix at this.

Engine makes loud "ticking" noise when warm at idle. Gm states normal condition. Not all duramax deisels make this noise. It cannot be normal. Gm has no interest in pursuing. Although this may not be a safety issue, unless the engine explodes as a result, it still is very disheartening that gm will release the product with bugs and the customer is forced to accept.

Now living in crescent city CA. Dealer here refuses to fix engine knock.

Engine "knock" on cold start-up, servicing dealer (m&s Chevrolet - highland, n. Y. ) states gm aware of problem & working on a fix according to service ticket, gm customer service now states "not a problem" but issued 5/100k extended engine component warranty.

Tires had made a lot of noise from begining after buying vehicle. Currently, tires were wearing from inside out where aligment could not fix problem. Consumer did not give any inormation regarding tire type or size. Oil light illuminated, dealer put in a new valve, oil problem still continued, oil was found covering and underneath the chassis. Consumer states windows rattle.

The engine knocks at startup when engine is cold. I contacted gm and I have gone to a local dealer about the problem (not lawson Chevrolet which was the dealer I purchased the vehicle from). Neither general motors or the local dealer where of any help. Basically I have been told the knocking at startup is normal.

The components on this truck ranging from the engine and drivetrain, windows, streering gear and shafts, e-brake lines, fuel pedal linkage and now the fuel gae itself has been a constant source of problems for me since the turch wes only a few months old ( 8,000 miles). Chevrolet has admitted that they knwon of most of the major problems but has indicated that they are "working on a fix". Yet I have to contiune to drive the vehicle. I need some help. Onsta.

Dealer has been contacted for engine knock three weeks after date of purchase. Dealer was unable to find source of problem, but stated that was normal in vehicles for that make/model and year.

Vehicle shows pausing or hesitating conditions in both in town and highway driving, whether in manual or cruise control, with or without air conditioning.

Dealer reports that the noise is from carbon build up.

Engine has a noticable miss at idle.

Will return vehicle to dealer for repairs. No safety defect listed in the summary.

Motor is knocking very badly. Consumer fears the motor may blow out.

While driving down the road engine dies out. This happens when taking foot off the gas pedal. Message control panel reads a big red battery, and the power surges. Contacted dealer and manufacturer, they are not able to fix the problem.

Rough engine idle (missing) and transmission shudders ( forward gear) when shifting into 2nd gear.

Knock at start up in shop 6 times not fixed !!!!.

This vehicle has been a nightmare. The brakes have failed, the steering column has gone out, I had to replace all the tires and get a front end alignment, the alternater went out, and the transmission has never worked correctly. It clanks loudly when shifting gears, doesn't idle correctly, and shuts off. I have had it rebuilt on three separate occasions. On one occasion it even caught on fire. The transmission is back in the shop now. ( dot number: tire size: 16 inch ).

Vehicle cuts off while driving. Vehicle has to come to a complete stop before it will start again, which is hard on the highway in heavy traffic. Under acceleration makes jerking motion and a softer jerking motion while driving.

Engine pings or has spark knock under acceleration or while towing a trailer. Also a spark knock when starting after being warmed up. Transmission will not stay in one gear while towing even on leavel road . Has had no luck with dealer . Dealer always states ( could not duplicate customers concern. ) a g. M. Tech. Rep road tested this vehicle and stated all parameters are within factory specs.

Vehicle has been to 3 dealers numerous times. Contacted Chevrolet no solution available. No safety defected listed within summary.

On two occasions vehicle experienced total shut down in heavy traffic. Previously vehicle has been in repair shop on three occasions for similar problem. But dealer informed consumer that problem could not be duplicated.

Eng knocks @ start daily, dealer says nrml, owners manual doesnt show as normal.
