: the contact stated while driving various speeds on the highway, the side rear view mirrors vibrated. The vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined no defect was found and the mirrors were designed that way. Updated 12/5/2006 - the consumer contacted the bbb and shortly afterward he was contacted by gm. Gm agreed that there was a problem and had the dealer replace the mirrors with another style. The new mirrors seem to be performing well.

Drivers-side outside rear view mirror shakes excessively, rendering it useless. Dealer replaced the mirror, but stated the problem was most likely with the aftermarket bug shield on the hood. After replacement the mirror still shook. I removed the bug shield, which took care of the problem. Dealer stated that a gm bug shield was designed not to cause the disturbance that causes the mirror to shake.

I have a 2001 cheverolet Silverado 2500 hd ext. Cab. The sideview mirrors have a defective part in the breakaway mechanism that causes them to 'breakaway' completely. This just happened to my passenger side mirror and six months ago happened to the driver side. Whatever piece they used inside the mirror is defective. I've never heard this happeining to any vehicle other that chevy trucks and SUV's from 2000 to 2003.

I purchased a 2004 Chevrolet 2500hd Silverado duramax in Feb 2004. The exterior mirrors have been vibrating since I have owned it. The dealership has replaced the mirrors once, which did not resolve the issue. They now state that it is a characteristic of the vehicle. I feel this is a safety issue that gm needs to look into instead of ignoring and stating as a characteritic of the vehicle.
The rear view mirrors that were special ordered for the vehicle did not extend far enough to allow for proper vision when towing a eight foot wide trailer. The dealer and the manufacturer informed and they explained that they could not offer a free remedy. Updated 12/7/2005.
