1 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

On three separate occasions the fuel gauge on my 2009 Silverado read full, when it was actually near empty. The first time was driving through the desert on hwy 395 in California. The outside temperature was over 100 degrees. I knew I had driven too far for the gauge the be correct. There are very few gas stations on that road. The second time it happened was on the same road a year later driving through the desert. I finally realized the problem was the heat, when it happened at my home town in jamul, CA when it was over 100 degrees. The low fuel warning never came on and the gauge said full. I turned the truck on and off and it still said full. The gauge corrected after I added fuel. I inquired at the dealer if there were any recalls and they said there was not.

7 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/18/2005

The abs light and brake light come on at any time during normal driving. However, it can never be checked because it does not save it in the computer memory when the vehicle is turned off. According to the owner's manual, this means I have no anti-lock brakes. The second problem is very serious also. The fuel gauge is erratic and inaccurate. I fear that I may run out of fuel at some point because of this. Then I may be stuck on the side of the road. I currently have to track my mileage with the trip meter to make sure it doesn't happen. Through research on the internet, I realize these are very common on this vehicle and gm refuses to recall it.

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

Fuel gauge initially did not register correct amount of fuel when tank is >7/8 full. Now the fuel gauge registers the wrong amount of fuel over 50% of the time no matter how full the tank is. This is very dangerous and can leave drivers standed in very dangerous places, especially considering this is a 4x4 vehicle that my family and I use to get into very remote locations. This should be recalled!.

15 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

Fuel gage is showing it is on empty and the tank is full. This does not matter if the tank is 1/2 or full. The truck can be in park or in drive. It happens when the truck is sitting still for more than a minute. Then the gage will jump from full to empty and in all other directions. This has cause me to run out of gas a couple of times. I know have to reset my trip to keep up with the miles that I have put on the truck.

16 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Low fuel gauge comes on all the time, at first it would show full then empty, now its starting to stop at 3/4 of a tank when it is full of gas, I called the dealer here in cali and they have never heard of it, it should be a recall, sounds like alot of people are having this problem.

18 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/09/2004

While sitting still or driving fuel gauge moves back and forth between full and empty, reguardless of amount of fuel in tank. Fuel light comes on when it moves to empty. Problem started at about 65,000 miles.

Failure Date: 08/10/2004

Erratic reading on fuel gauge.

22 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/30/2004

Fuel gauge is very irractic. Shows low fuel even when tank is full. Asked service manager about problem and he said it's a common problem with that vehicle and very expensive to repair, but you get a new fuel pump. Should be recalled and repaired free by gm.

23 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/14/2004

Fuel sending unit faulty. Many reports on web of same failure due to fuel additives damaging contacts.

24 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/26/2004

Gas gauge has started to act up - bounces around, dumps down to empty and low fuel sensor light in dash comes on even though tank may be full. Began doing this after 60,000 miles. Did have it do this once before but did not repeat until recently so I never had it checked out. I have been to my mechanic (who's GMC truck is also doing the same thing) and was told this is a common problem. Dealer tells me $600. 00 to repair but I feel this may be a recall issue after getting on line and reading numerous complaints from other 1999 - 2001 Silverado owners. I also have (2) chevy vans that are company vehicles where I work that are experiencing the same problem - (1) began at 60,000 also.

25 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/16/2004

The fuel gauge in my 2001 chevy pickup does not work correctly. I can fill it up completely with gas and my gas gauge reads empty. So I never know whether or not I have any gas! this should not be an issue on a late model truck!.

26 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/15/2004

I own a 2001 chevy Silverado 4. 8l pickup, purchased new in may 2001. For the past year, whenever I fill the fuel tank the gauge immediately goes to empty and the low fuel light comes on. The only way to accurately know how much gas is in the tank is to reset the trip odometer at each fill up. This apparently is a common problem on chevy pickups as I've talked to numerous chevy truck owners who have experienced the same problem. This occurs on several diufferent model year trucks. This is a known problem to chevy service departments, who suggest owners live with the problem until you need to replace the fuel pump, because the sending unit is inside the gas tank along with the pump. This repair is in the hundreds of dollars because it involves either dropping the gas tank or removing the bed to get to the affected parts. I believe that Chevrolet should order a recall on this problem and repair it at no charge to owners. A non functioning gas gauge is an annoyance at the least, and dangerous at the worst if drivers were to run out of fuel on a crowded street or highway, or be stranded without fuel in extreme weather conditions. The fact that this is a known problem and has been for some time indicates gm is unwilling to correct the problem. I believe they should pay for the owners' repairs. Thank you.

27 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/06/2004

The fuel guage on the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado would become erratic and would read incorrect fuel readings. Cause of this defect is a faulty fuel sending unit, built into the Silverado's fuel pump assembly.

28 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/12/2004

While driving to the doctor I heard a loud metal on metal clunk sound from transmission hump. Immediately following, vehicle started missing like it was out of gas and stalled. In approximately 2 seconds the fuel guage went from reading 1/4 tank to empty. Service dept informed us that the electronic float device located inside the fuel tank had failed. Upon further investigation they discovered that the reason it failed was due to the fact that gasoline destroys them. We can expect to experience this problem indefinately because gm has no replacement part that works . The dealer informed us that gm is aware of this problem and that all pick up trucks made by gm have this part and will experience this problem at some point in time. In other words, you have no accurate fuel guage and should keep your truck as full of gas as possible at all times.

29 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/03/2004

Fuel gauge does not read correctly the amount of fuel in tank. Very dangerous for multiple drivers of same vehicle, especially for women with infants and young children. Problem began as soon as I purchased the truck. Problem occurs each time vehicle is driven. Dealer wants $700 for repair. Several owners of same model truck have described same problem. This should definitely be a recall for obvious reasons.

30 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/04/2004

I own a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck, the past few months my fuel gauge has been erratic. The tank will show empty at times and full at others. You can't trust the fuel gauge. I have taken it to a local mechanic and was told this was a big problem with Chevrolet trucks and that it would cost about $1000. 00 to repair. I have spoken to other Chevrolet owners with trucks and they too have the same problem and was told it would have to be repaired by Chevrolet with an estimated expense between $1000. 00 to $1200. 00. This problem should be a part of the recalls for this particular truck.

31 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/16/2004

Fuel gauge operation is erratic, has been since vehicle was 2 years old.

32 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/25/2004

My fuel gauge does not read correctly. It either reads full (most of the time) or just after I fill up it flips to empty intermitently. This has caused me to run out of fuel a couple of times before I discovered the problem. I now have to use the trip meter to gage how far I have gone.

33 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/02/2004

In January 2004 my gas guage started jumping from full to empty. When you give the gas tank a gentle hit with your hand, the problem goes away. I have read that many other gm owners have had this problem. I don't go to the dealer because the technicians do poor work. I use the trip odometer and filled up the gas tank at 300 miles. I believe there should be a recall. Somebody could run out of gas in a very dangerous location.

34 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/01/2003

Fuel gauge acts erractically. While idling it will drop to empty and low fuel light will come on, even if the tank is full. It usually goes back up after vehicle begins moving again, sometimes right away or sometimes it takes miles down the road. I took this problem to the dealer and they said it was a bad fuel level sensor,at a cost of over $300. 00 to fix it. This is a 2000 Silverado 1500 4x4 pickup. This seems like a problem with manufacturing to me and should be recalled.

35 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/01/2003

The fuel gage acts eraticly. It goes from full to low fuel to somewhere in between. It continues to act eraticly.
