21 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/20/2016

I purchased a 2016 Silverado 1500 4wd ltz crew on February 08, 2016. On February 20, 2016 with just 312 new miles driven on the new vehicle, the electric power steering stopped working while driving 60 miles per hour going west on the southern state parkway middle lane in nassau county new york. With no power steering on a six thousand pound truck, I had to struggle with turning the steering wheel away from other vehicle on the parkway and exit the parkway without causing an accident. I immediately call for road side serviced and the truck was towed and return to the dealer for service. During the investigation, the Chevrolet service department located in valley stream, NY stated on February 24, 2016 that the entire electric rack opinion for the power steering was defected when it was installed during the assembly by the manufacture. The 2016 Silverado 1500 truck was purchased new on 2/08/2016, and I have concerns that other mechanical parts in the vehicle may be defected and the vehicle may be unsafe to drive.

22 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

I was involved in an accident on 1/15/16 in which I was sideswiped by another vehicle. Upon impact, I had no brakes and no steering control. This caused me to rear end another vehicle and hit a tree head on. The airbags never deployed. I was unable to stop the vehicle or control it. I could have been killed or killed someone else. I am very concerned. I have had the truck in the shop on several occasions with electrical issues, yet the dealership could not find anything or it was minor corrections. I have been very concerned with the electronics of this vehicle since I bought the truck in August 2015. The insurance company totaled the truck.

23 Steering problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/11/2016

At 34,162 miles the steering gear was binding, creating a safety problem. A steering gear should last longer than 34,162 miles.

24 Steering problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

I bought this used 2013 truck in late Nov 2015. When making (usually) a right turn at low speed, especially from a stop like entering traffic from an inclined access driveway, occasionally (maybe 3 times per month) there is a sudden and total failure of power assist in steering, making the turn extremely difficult and unable to keep from drifting out of the intended lane of travel. Collisions were avoided several times by (thankfully) oncoming traffic veering out of the way. This sudden loss of steering control particularly at this unexpected time while accelerating to negotiate a traffic entry is extremely dangerous. This one-ton truck is not like a subcompact that is easy to turn 90 degrees without power steering, believe me. If my wife were driving, the truck would surely go completely across all lanes of oncoming traffic. After completing the turn, the power steering returns to normal, however the power assist steering on this 2013 truck has always been far less effective than my previous identical model, but 8 years older chevy diesel one-ton truck.

25 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/05/2016

Driving home on the highway going 65 mph I tried to turn following the road and the steering would not move, I forced it to turn while slowing down and almost ran into a ditch.

26 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/29/2015

Between the road speeds of 45-65 mph the vehicle vibrates the front end shakes the vehicle does it in any road condition and weather the vehicle has been to the dealer twice and tires balanced and rotated 3 time to no avail.

27 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

While driving my 2014 chevy Silverado, I have had 3 instances where the stability control light came on and I suddenly lost lost all steering and brakes. Within a 2-3 seconds the cluster and radio went dead and then the engine stopped. I had no ability to control the vehicle. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated the logs showed 1 1/2 pages of vehicle communications errors including loss of communications to steering, loss of communications to brakes, etc. After 8 days of analysis, the dealer notified me that this was a known issue with gm and that there is an active pi number for the issue. However, there is no known resolution for the issue. Because there is no known solution, they asked me to come pick up the vehicle and continue driving it and they will contact me when a solution is found. When I asked if they understood that I could lose control of the vehicle and potential kill myself, a family member of another driver they only told me that they had no other suggestions. I escalated to gm customer care and they assured me that because there are no open recalls on my vehicle for this issue, it was completely safe to drive and that I shouldn't worry. A search of the internet revealed many people who have had the exact same experience and who were told to continue driving the vehicle. One even stated that they hit a pedestrian after losing control of the truck. This issue is obviously a huge safety risk as the driver can lose complete control of the vehicle at any speed.

28 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

While driving at high way speed ( 70 mph posted limit ) and making a right hand long sweeping turn the trucks steering would stick or lock in the turn position. This condition would require a me to force the steering wheel back to center. At this time the condition only presents its self during highway speeds and long gradual right hand turns. This happend 6 or 8 times on my 800 miles trip. The dealer can not replicate this issue and as a result will not agree to repalce any steering components at this time. A quick internet search indicates many others have this same steering issue with their 2015 Silverados with eps steering and their dealers are alos unable to repair the problem. If this was an issue at parking lot speed I may not even care but at 70mph then it happens it gets your attention very fast. I called Chevrolet customer service and they claim no report of such an issue. As a result I wanted to at least report the issue so it is a matter of record.

29 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

After parking and removing key steering wheel disconnects from front wheels , makes a rattling noise as if some metallic part is loose and then then jams, making it difficult to rotate ignition key to start truck again. Other times power steering assist is lost and truck is difficult to steer.

30 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/06/2015

Use this truck for commercial purposes to haul trailers. Truck has turned off while driving 4 times. Three while driving with trailer when it hits rough road or under construction road and takes hard jolt to front end. First you are driving, then you hit bump or dip in road and you notice you have no steering, when you look down you notice whole display is shut down ( like it was never on) with no warning lights displayed. You have to put truck into neutral while driving and restart. Last time it happened had 30 foot trailer on truck and were in a downhill position with a turn and no steering capability ( no antilock or trailer brakes because they need electricity to operate)and 300 ft from going off embankment and then dropping 100ft into a gully. The trucks whole electrical system turns off shutting down everything in the truck. Own 7 trucks and have owned 20 plus trucks over the years. I have had design flaw issues and just fluke issues that just happen to that one truck. This really seems more like a design flaw, either in ignition with their new keys ( have a 2012, this ignition is defiantly different) or the electrical system, or maybe they added some sensor that shuts truck off if in a front end impact. If I am right this will kill someone, the truck gives you no warning before turning off and most people are unaware they can shift a car into neutral and restart while driving and since it has happened while pulling trailers this is very dangerous not just for the driver and passages of the vehicle but every other car or truck on the roadway with it. Example of this, the last time when we could not steer and could not go with the turn of the road, there was a car in the second lane and the trailer went into that lane, the car had to make evasive manuviers to avoid impact with trailer.

31 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

The trucks have a vibration that is felt in the steering wheel, floor, seats, accelerator and brake pedals etc. While driving. The major consensus it that the worst speed it 76 mph, yet it is felt to a lesser degree at any speeds, with some being worse than others. There are a large number of trucks with this issue, yet general motors refuses to do anything about it. It began within a couple weeks of purchasing my truck. I found people first reporting the issue in 2015, and more recently it continues with the 2015 and 2016 model years.

32 Steering problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

While driving down the highway a stabilization control light came on briefly, then went away. Approximately 5 miles later after exiting the highway, and going down a side street, the truck died and the steering wheel locked when I slowed and started to make a right hand turn into a parking lot. This has since occurred once more under similar conditions while slowing, braking and turning at low speeds and not under throttle.

33 Steering problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

While traveling on the expressway in my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado with 26,000 miles on the odometer, I attempted a transient lane change while taking evasive action in order to avoid a hazardous situation. When coupled with the brakes I noticed longer than usual engagement. As a result, I was forced onto the shoulder and had to use multiple downshifts in concert with the emergency brake to bring the vehicle to a halt. It sounded like a train stopping on rails. I proceeded to drive home with hazards on,u never exceeding third gear. The following morning I noticed clear oil underneath the front end of the vehicle. I believe this is an extremely dangerous vehicle and a less experienced driver would have been killed or extremely injured. Lastly, I have also been noticing inconsistency with steering resistance. Sometimes the steering is considerably looser than at other times. I have dismissed this disconcerting sensation by assuming it is weather/humidity related.

34 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the interior of the vehicle vibrated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200.

35 Steering problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

I had issues with steering control, specially on curves at 40 t0 65 miles p/h on the road from beginning of the purchase. I have been to chevy dealer to complain about safety issue on the road. But dealer finds no physical defect on the car. On mat 15 2015 finally I lost the control of steering wheel and hit the side walk curb and broke front and rear axles. Likely no personal injury. I am very concerned about safety of other owners in this regard. I have checked other resources to find if there are similar cases like mine, and surprisingly there are too many of them. Please let me help to save others from loosing their lives. Thanks.
