2 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

I have owned a 2000 chevy silverado ext. Cab 4wd since December of 2001. Today I was driving to work, and it was wet out. I was traveling at 25 mph and as I was slowing to a light I completely stopped the truck. There was another car 10 feet in front of me. As I started to pull away at around 4 to 5 mph the car in front of me started to slow because of traffic. When I hit the brake the abs motor started to pulsate so fast the truck wouldn't stop and I never took my foot off the brake pedal. I then moved the shift lever to park and it still wouldn't stop. I then hit the car in front of me and then I finally stopped. The driver in front of me luckily had no damage to his car since I was only driving a few mph. I continued to work. The abs light never came on. As I left work to go to lunch, same day, I was pulling up to a light at a very busy intersection . I slowed way ahead of time and crawled to the light and just as I hit the brake to stop the same thing happened where the abs motor ran continuously and I couldn't stop the vehicle . I threw the truck in park and it still wouldn't stop and was starting to enter the intersection on a red light. I then stepped on the parking brake and it finally stopped. I was almost killed because a semi just started to pass me and he was traveling at about 50 mph. I then turned the truck around and went down the road to my work. As I was parking the truck at my work it happened again,3rd time. The truck is now out of the extended warranty and I can't see paying 1,500 to 2,000 dollars to fix this when it is a manufacturer defect. This particular problem should never happen. There should be a recall for this problem or someone is going to be killed, if that hasn't already happened. I will never feel safe driving a chevy/gm vehicle again and will tell everyone I know about this problem. Just so it's understood I'm a very safe driver and have an excellent driving record.

3 Brake Antilock Control Unit/module problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2006

2000 silverado with 55902 miles. Abs light began to come on intermittently with occasional display of red brake light. Vehicle had been recalled for cleaning of wheel sensors which was completed. Brakes were checked and new rear pads with rotor turning was completed. Abs light still on. Taken to dealer and advised abs modulator was bad. Cost for part, $762. 62 plus labor. Repair not done. Will continue to operate vehicle with conventional non-abs brakes until recall. Abs light continues to intermittently display abs does not work. How many other vehicles are on the highway like this due to astronomical repair cost?.
