The vehicle was a total loss. Loss control while avoiding a deer. Slid into ditch. Hit a driveway entrance. Was airborne approx. 15 yards. Nose dived into the ground and went back across the ditch into a field, turned left and went into a wooded area of pines. Left front fender made contact with a pine ( about eight inches thick ) partially up rooting and continued on to wedge between two pines. Air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt tighten up so tight that I had to use a fairly large screw drive, that I had in the center console, to beat the release in order to unlock the seat belt. My 84 year old father hit a deer on the right front bumper of his 2014 chevy silverado ltz going 55 mph on October 30, 2014. All of the air bags deployed except for the drivers air bag. The drivers air bag did not deploy. In addition to the drivers air bag not deploying, there was structural damage to the right front passenger side bumper. My father took his vehicle to james wood motors decatur, 2111 s hwy 287, decatur, TX 76234, to get an estimate on repairing the vehicle. They talked him into trading his 2014 chevy silverado ltz wrecked vehicle for a 2015 chevy silverado ltz. James wood told my father that they would be salvaging the vehicle, or something like that, and they encouraged him to trade in his wrecked vehicle because the trade in value would be affected by the crash. Keep in mind that my father had a long relationship with them with trading in vehicles for newer ones and they knew that my father was very concerned with the trade-in value of his vehicle. They never discussed with my father the fact that the drivers air bag did not deploy. Today, I ran a car fax check on my father's crashed vehicle and the report shows: no accidents reported, no structural damage reported, no air bag deployment reported. Also, the car fax report shows a new owner from grand prairie, texas, that purchased the vehicle on 3-36-2015. I think it's outrageous that james wood motors decatur took advantage of my father because of his age, encouraged him to trade in his wrecked vehicle and then they turned around and sold the vehicle to someone without reporting any of the damage to the vehicle and the fact that the drivers air bag did not deploy. Someone needs to look into this.

After exiting the off ramp of i264 in portsmouth, virginia I sped up to approximately 35 mph and approached the next stop light. Upon applying pressure to the brake pedal no resistance was noted and the slowing of the vehicle was found negligible. I rear ended a vehicle in front of me at approximately 25 mph. Both cars involved in the accident were pulled into the median out of traffic. As I exited the vehicle I noticed fluid dripping from the truck frame at the forward hinge of the driver side door. The dripping fluid was brake fluid. I suspect a ruptured brake fluid line or tube had ruptured which caused the loss of braking power. There was no warning given by the vehicle's computer to warn of low brake fluid because the reservoir was still at the normal level. I believe corrosion of the brake lines was accelerated due to the use of salt treatments on the roads during the winter snow storms that have fallen in the past three years. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt and luckily this did not happen when I was exiting the interstate at a much higher rate of speed. Also the air bag did not deploy upon impact. These are two serious safety issues incurred in once incident to a truck which has less than 70k miles and 12 years old.

On our 2008 chevy Silverado 1500 lt 4x4 z71, the dashboard has cracked so badly where the passenger airbag is, that if the airbag were to deploy, plastic shrapnel is going to go flying, which could injure or possibly kill someone. On the flipside; the airbag may not even deploy due to the damaged dashboard. In either case, this is a major safety issue that gm refuses to acknowledge, dispite now thousands of customers tahoes, suburbans, and (all chevy & GMC trucks & SUV's 2007 and newer) having the exact same issue. After multiple calls to chevy and gm, and them being extremely rude and in denial; the best they can do is to replace the dash for a price of $200-500, which we currently don't have, and should not have to pay for, as gm should stand behind the safety of their vehicles after charging the prices they do. In the meantime, we don't feel safe even driving our truck down the street. This is a serious safety issue, and needs to be an urgent recall, before someone is killed! there are message boards, facebook pages, and twitter accounts all set up just for frustrated chevy & GMC customers having the cracked dashboard and airbag issue, so please investigate this problem, NHTSA. Since gm refuses to help it's thousands of scared customers, we pray you will help to stop this madness.
