2 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/10/2022

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle was losing motive power with the “engine power reduced” message displayed. The temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating. The contact initially had the vehicle towed to the dealer and diagnosed with a defective fuel pump. The dealer replaced the fuel pump, the fuel pump system, and the fuel pump sensor; however, each repair failed to fix the failure. The contact towed the vehicle to autonation Chevrolet pembroke pines (8600 pines blvd, pembroke pines, FL 33024) where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective catalytic converter; however, the part remained on back order. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

3 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Afm system causes cylinders 1 and 7 to foul the spark plugs actually causing the porcelain to break off in the combustion chamber. The afm is obviously an engineering failure and should have been recalled and repaired under warranty. Previous fixes do not work. Modifying the valve cover to correct a design flaw is not a cure for the real problem, which is a design flaw. #1 and #7 foul out due to the collection of carbon deposit caused from excess oil in these chambers which causes the malfunction engine light to come on and the eventual catalytic convertor failure, poor gas mileage and poor overall performance, with eventual engine failure. Lack of acceleration, slow performance. First noticed at around 30 to 50,000 miles and progressively became worse. Idle is poor due to fouled and broken plugs in these two cylinders and the ecu attempting to correct the error the balance of engine is thrown into a unbalanced condition causing the buildup of carbon deposits in the engine and causing the sensors to attempt to correct the problem. Problem is universal and not specific to a few select vehicles but to those with the afm system and was obviously a problem severe enough for gm to change to the newly developed dfm system without attempting to actually address the flawed afm problem.

4 Catalytic Convertor problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/12/2007

Just 100 miles after pcm was replaced , out of warranty, engine warning light came on. Since unable to get to dealership fast enough I did some research in my manual, which stated that if I shut down vehicle and light goes off then probably nothing major to worry about. Intermittently the light has came on, then gone off for the past 4000 miles. So with my oil change, had dealership run test on diagnostics, found bad catalytic converter. Cost of repair, $ 862. Well, I don't have that kind of money just floating around. Therefore, I couldn't get it done this time around. So I don't have that fixed. I was told gm gives up to 80,000 warranty on the pcm module and the catalytic converter. Strange how the light came on just 100 miles over the last work done. Why is this happening to me and my truck?.
