The pcv system plugs up in below zero weather casing the main rear engine seal to blow and leak. Currently waiting for GMC to manufacture the seal as it’s been back ordered due to so many engines needing this part. Estimate is 2 months or more wait. A loud ‘pop’ was heard the day before leaking. It sounded like an object hit under the truck. Oil drops were found the next day and dealership found the leak. Gateway in fargo, nd is the mechanic and GMC is paying for repairs. If we were to of driven for a prolonged time, the leak could have poured most of all of the oil out of the blown seal and ruined the engine. There were no warning signs. The oil pressure seemed unstable the immediate days afterwards before being looked at. It was going down and coming back up after warming. The oil began leaking faster and in larger amounts as weather warmed above freezing.
When I try starting the truck it makes a clicking sound like it wants to turn over and then won't. Sometimes it never happens and other times it may take three or four times of trying to get it to start before it will. The service engine light came on and continued to stay on. Took it to a chevy dealer and was placed on the diagnostic computer and I was told codes found were po174 and po171. Smoke test was performed on evap system and induction system. Found leaks at the pcv hose, purge valve hoses and purge valve is stuck open. These were removed and replaced both purge valve hoses, purge valve and pcv hose. $523. 80 later the problem is still not fixed.

Took wife in city traffic uptown. . Pcv value got clogged causing oil to get on spark plugs and foul them out causing the intake manifold to have to be taken off and cleaned and all spark plugs and covers replaced. . Manifold gasket replaced. . Cost me almost $800 and there is only 56,000 miles on it! fortunate that I was able to only have to drive about 3 miles to dealership!.

: the contact stated an oil puddle was noticed under the vehicle while parked in the driveway on 3 occasions. The dealer was contacted and replaced the oil pan gasket. The 2nd time an oil puddle was found, the vehicle was taken to the dealer who found an oil leak in the crankcase sensor. The dealer replaced the oil pan gasket & installed oil pressure unit on 09/23/04. On 09/05/06, the vehicle was taken in for a recall, and the dealer determined that the oil pan gasket needed to be replaced a third time.
