6. 2l l87 v8 engine experienced catastrophic engine failure do to lifter failure and a cylinder 8 misfire. Causing additional damage to camshaft. The dealership has inspected the vehicle and refuses to acknowledge the problem as there own. I have invoices for the work if I choose to proceed. Incident occurred while driving on the freeway, complete lose of power and control. This engine is known for this exact problem yet I never received a recall.
Check engine turned on and at the same time the vehicle turned into safety mode abruptly, it slowed down to 10 miles an hour while on the high way and receiving a message stating that the "engine power reduced", the issue was presented to the dealership and they believe to be fixed with a sensor issue, the light came back on a few days after the initial repair and once again the engine lost power while driving the vehicle, the vehicle was then taken back to the dealership for repair once again, both times I mentioned the service bulletin, which they did not consider in their repair, stating that the issue was specific for a code (which all codes present are in the service bulletin) the 2nd repair was done on a actuator, which they stated should fix the issue, and did not, a 3rd time the vehicle lost power while hauling a trailer, this time I brought up the concern of them not reviewing the service bulletin, this time they confirmed that the service bulletin was the issue causing the check engine light (gm service bulletin 21-na-149) now they are looking to slowly start repairing the issue and wait for the check engine light to turn on again to then go back and forth and review step by step the instructions in the bulletin.
Engine oil cooler line blew off of engine while at highway speed. Lost oil and seized engine.

Most mornings after starting truck and driving off, it appears to be a hesitation or brief loss of power. Issue has been present for several years. It's hard to determine if it's engine or transmission issue. Truck is available for inspection. It usually occurs when leaving house in the morning so there is no safety issue because it happens within the first minute of driving. No warnings, cannot recreate issue.
As I’m driving, the vehicle began shaking and ticking sounds could be heard inside the cabin. A check engine light lit up on the dashboard. The idle was rough and it sounded like metal thrashing in the engine so I turned on my hazards and shut the vehicle off in the middle lane of the street. It didn’t want to turn over a couple times but when I was finally able to get it to start again it made the loud ticking and thrashing sounds. To prevent more damage I put it into neutral and had to push it with the help of bystanders to the closet parking lot putting us and other drivers at risk. I had the vehicle towed to the local chevy dealer for a diagnostic and they claim a catastrophic engine failure and recommend complete engine replacement. There were no symptoms of this prior.
When driving in traffic about 10 mph engine shuts down and power steering goes out. . When I slow to turn, the engine shuts down sometimes and the power steering goes out. No warnings. I’m afraid to drive it. I almost hit a lady while turning in a parking lot because the steering went out and it died. Sometime it’s hard to turn the key to start the truck. This has happened 9 or 10 times now.

1. The vehicle's transmission does not operate consistently and safely. 2. At times, the transmission will not engage, and this has placed my family in very dangerous situations when changing lanes. 3. At red lights, at times, the transmission will not engage to drive. 4. When slowing in traffic at times , the transmission will not adjust to the slower speed, although the operator is applying the brakes. Then, without warning, the transmission will engage the higher speed, almost launching the vehicle forward suddenly, potentially into another vehicle or person, depending on the situation.

At 4400 miles on new truck started a random cylinder misfire which engine jerking and causes esc, emerg breaking and adaptive cruise control to turn off. Will reset itself then do it again. Little over 100 hours on new engine. It happens on longer trips on of off the highway.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal metal-on-metal sound coming from the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the engine sounded rough. The vehicle was taken to two different independent mechanics, who diagnosed that the active fuel management (afm) and dynamic fuel management (dfm) were impacting the lifters, which impacted the camshaft, and scraped the cylinder walls, causing the engine to fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who confirmed the engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The vehicle was towed to the residence and no longer driven. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and the contact was informed that the engine oil coolant line had detached from the crimp joints, causing an oil leak. Prior to the maintenance service, oil stains were found on the ground of the garage floor. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that a week prior to the failure, there was an abnormal coolant odor coming from the vehicle and was entering the cabin from the a/c vents. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a pressure test was performed, and the contact was informed that the radiator was cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to firestone for a second opinion, and it was confirmed that the radiator was cracked. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nhsta hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The engine experienced a failure in cylinder #5, confirmed by diagnostic trouble code p0305 (cylinder 5 misfire). The vehicle and engine remain in their post-failure condition and are available for inspection upon request. The problem was confirmed through diagnostic testing, which retrieved code p0305 (cylinder 5 misfire). The misfire is present whenever the vehicle is running and is reproducible. The vehicle has been inspected by a service center and diagnosed with a cylinder #5 misfire. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance representatives but is available for inspection upon request. No police inspection was required as there was no collision. The failure occurred suddenly while driving at approximately 45 mph. Immediately after the failure, the check engine light illuminated and the engine began running extremely rough. When during warranty, the vehicle was serviced multiple times for engine shuttering and skipping.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle experienced reduced power and failed to exceed 25-30 mph. The contact stated that the failure persisted while driving uphill. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that cylinder #5 wall was damaged and there was oil found on the #5 piston. The dealer determined that the engine had experienced an internal mechanical failure and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,260.
Vehicle has experienced repeated internal engine failures related to the exhaust valve lash adjusters and valvetrain. The engine developed abnormal valvetrain noise, misfires under load, and loss of power. The check engine light would only flash during hard acceleration or when passing another vehicle (wide-open throttle), then turn off after approximately 10–15 seconds and never remain illuminated. Because the warning light would not stay on, the vehicle continued to be operated without clear indication of an active or worsening engine failure. Dealer inspection confirmed exhaust valve lash adjuster failure, which led to camshaft and valvetrain damage. This failure has occurred more than once, including after prior dealer repairs. This is a serious safety concern because the vehicle was driven at highway speeds and during passing maneuvers while experiencing internal engine damage and misfires, without persistent warning to the driver. Sudden power loss, stalling, or catastrophic engine failure during acceleration or passing presents a risk of crash or injury. This appears to be a systemic engine defect rather than normal wear, as the failure recurred and was not reliably detected by the vehicle’s monitoring system.
My truck has the 6. 2l engine that is in recall. I received my letter and took it in for inspection and oil change as recommended (Dec 15, 2025). Less than a month later (Jan 26, 2026) my engine started making loud noises. Got it to the dealership. The claim found metal in oil, spun rod bearings. They did replace engine under recall at no charge but then a week later my check engine light came on. Bad battery control module. Not sure if this was due to engine swap, etc.
My vehicle was part of the recall n25494000 l87 engine loss of propulsion. Vehicle went in for recall on Sep-30th 2025, picoscope inspection was done and vehicle passed. Oil was changed to 0w 40 with new oil filter. Dec-26/27 of 2025 vehicle started stalling, for no reason but no engine light. The dealer said there was no problem because there was no engine light, so there was no way to find out what was wrong. January 11th 2026 vehicle lost propulsion 7 times on the freeway, vehicle had a hard time re-starting and started smelling oil burning smell. Vehicle engine light stayed on, 1/11/2026 vehicle was running a little rough with abnormal tapping noise but made it to the dealer for inspection.

While driving the vehicle I began to hear a ticking noise in the engine (lifter tick) and the check engine light came on. The vehicle began to lose power and started shaking. I stopped the vehicle and turned it off and restarted it and began to drive as I was not far from home. I found that the vehicle did not have full power and was not firing on all cylinders. After getting the vehicle home a diagnostic code showed cylinder 2 was not firing. The vehicle was towed to the dealership who confirmed there was a bad lifter and roller that dug into the camshaft. The sudden loss of power and shaking of the vehicle while driving is the safety concern. It seems that this is a common problem with these engines that gm is aware of and has failed to address.
I have experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to the faulty gm dfm lifters and oil pump. I was advised that my vehicle will need a new engine. I know there is bulletin no. : 24-na-173 for my vehicle. I have contacted gm, and they advised that there is nothing they can do since the truck is out of warranty. I know they are under investigation for the 6. 2 l engine failure issues, and I feel as if this needs to include the 5. 3l engines as well. This is very disappointing since I purchased this vehicle new, and have meticulously maintained it. Perhaps the cpa needs to get involved as well.
I am reporting a manufacturing defect involving general motors’ active fuel management (afm) system that caused catastrophic engine failure in my 2016 Chevrolet silverado (VIN: [xxx] ). At approximately 78,000 miles, my vehicle experienced piston and lifter failure requiring full engine replacement. This failure occurred without warning and aligns with thousands of consumer complaints regarding afm-related oil consumption, lifter collapse, and engine damage in gm vehicles. This is a known design defect that gm has addressed through technical service bulletins and engine redesigns, yet many consumers continue to experience premature failures at low mileage. This defect presents a safety and reliability concern, including loss of power while driving and significant financial burden to vehicle owners. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this ongoing defect. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] VIN: [xxx] 2016 Chevrolet silverado information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The engine started knocking. The dealer confirmed the thrust bearing was the culprit. Engine replacement recommended. 41k. 6. 2.
The motor blew with no notice, around 1000 miles after the recall inspection. My safety, along with the others around me was put at risk as I was in the fast lane during rush hour traffic with no motor to aid switching lanes to get to the shoulder. Finally died at one of the busiest intersections in the state, for the last time, as I was attempting to limp to the dealer via multiple restarts. Leaving me stranded on the side of the road on a wonderful January day. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer and slated for an engine replacement. No notice, I let off the gas, and when I went to accelerate again, the motor shut off.
I have a 2024 silverado with the l87 (6. 2) engine. I brought in in for recall. After inspection the Chevrolet service center said it was good. They changed the oils to 0-w40 per the recall. On January 8, 2026 I was driving at 35 mph and the engine just stopped. I had it towed back to the Chevrolet service center and after diagnosis it was determined that the engine failed and has to be replaced which take a month or more.
Cylinder 5 missfire and I have 2 codes on my ob 2 scanner.
Can shaft and lifters failed.
5449 miles. Motor had a knock. Took to dealership and they replaced valve lifters.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a jiffy lube, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the engine oil cooler line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to customer satisfaction program: n212326940 (engine oil cooler lines detaching from crimp); however, the VIN was not included in the csp. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the csp and to call the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.
Complete engine failure and it just outside the recall. This is unacceptable and needs fixed.
