We purchased a 2018 fully loaded chevy silverado ltz/z71 ($60,000) in 2019, with the idea it would last. After being super meticulous with maintenance and keeping this vehicle in top condition, we just passed the 110,000 mile mark. I have receipts of all the work/maintenance completed on this vehicle. I began to hear a ticking noise in the engine block, and the check engine light came on, so I pulled the codes and went to a local transmission/engine mechanic to find that I have a bent push rod (manufacture failure) due a failed lifter/afm system. I opted not to take it directly to the dealer as they charge $179 base rate for diagnosis which could increase depending on the diagnosis needed. After numerous calls, I found this is a very common ($7,500-$11,000+) issue with '18-'21 models. Explored my options only to find the 2021- 2026 engines are worse with issues involving crankshaft, engine seizures and an active lawsuit with the new 6. 2l v8 engines. (silverado, GMC sierra, tahoe, suburban, yukons) I was then pointed in the direction of speaking to the gm manufacture directly, again. I had contacted them numerous times and was told the damages, even though are not preventable and are directly due to a manufacture error. I was told I must take my vehicle to a licensed service dealer to be diagnosed. I informed them, that I was already told my vehicle would not be covered so I did not feel the need to endure additional cost only to be told the cost would again, not be covered. I'm not seeking full payment; I even mentioned goodwill assistance of which they denied; however, I'm without a vehicle and have received very little to no communication in resolving this issue, which is an issue I'm finding is happening to many others alike and general motors corp, is not taking any responsibility or accountability in this matter.

I brought my vehicle to the dealership on March 7, 2026, to address the outstanding safety recall. However, I was informed that the recall repair cannot be completed until I first pay $1,100 to replace the idler pulley. Unfortunately, an unexpected $1,100 expense is not currently in my budget. It is quite concerning to continue driving a vehicle with a known risk of losing propulsion, as the increased risk of a crash is a significant safety worry for me. I would appreciate any assistance or alternative solutions you can provide to ensure this safety recall is resolved. Please find the message from the dealership: additional diagnostic recommendations: we are going to want to get the idler pulley replaced 1st as it can cause unwanted noise and vibration during the testing with the pico scope. After the repair take the vehicle on a good test drive get it good and warm then retest the engine with the pico scope and proceed with those test results. We still want to make sure it is tested correctly if the engine passes just note under special coverage n252494003 this special coverage covers if an engine failure occurs in the vehicle as a result of the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Formal complaint–recall fraud & VIN tampering subject: falsified recall n252494000 & 18 u. S. C. § 511 violations vehicle: 2023 chevy silverado (VIN: [xxx] ) incident: March 7, 2026 from: [xxx] | [xxx] I am reporting severe federal recall fraud and VIN tampering by kunes auto group (WI). Gm records and physical evidence prove kunes falsified safety recall n252494000 (l87 loss of propulsion) and sold an illegally rebuilt wreck with mismatched vins. 1. Falsified recall: on 4/9/2024, kunes logged a picoscope inspection marking the recall "passed" (trans #xx-xxx). The NHTSA remedy requires installing a 0w-40 oil cap/flush. When the engine seized on 3/7/2026, it still had the factory 0w-20 cap. Kunes billed gm for a safety remedy never performed. 2. Concealed defects: despite the "closed" recall, the truck exhibited l87 defect symptoms. I brought it to kunes three times (oct 2025 - Feb 2026). They dismissed the warnings and released the truck as safe. 3. VIN fraud (18 u. S. C. § 511): the 2023 truck has 2025-stamped frame/axle parts. Holz motors (authorized gm) blacklisted it on 3/6/2026 (ro #1583470), stating in writing: "due to. . . Mismatched vins door to dash, salvaged rear axle. . . Holz will not bring this truck in. " 4. Highway failure: on 3/7/2026, the l87 motor suffered total loss of propulsion at 70 mph in traffic. The sudden loss of power steering/braking nearly caused a multi-vehicle fatality. Requested action: 1. Audit kunes’s picoscope data for the 4/9/2024 transaction. 2. Investigate remedy fraud (missing 0w-40 cap). 3. Investigate tampered/mismatched vins and off-the-books rebuild. 4. Sanction dealer for fraudulent safety certifications. I declare under penalty of perjury these statements are true. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

On March 6, 2026 exactly one month ago from today, I was driving my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 zr2 with a 6. 2 liter gas engine to a family vacation. We were traveling through our home state to another state. I was driving and my wife, along wiht two children (age [xxx] and [xxx] ) and my family dog were all riding inside the truck. We were traveling at posted highway speed approximately three hours from our home. There was a whine from the engine compartment that got progressively louder in about 30 seconds. Then the engine began to lose power. We were near a Chevrolet dealer so I pulled in the service bay, where the technician swiftly told me to cut off the engine, that my crankshaft was broken and it lead to catastrophic engine failure. The vehicle is available for inspection at the same Chevrolet dealer we visited one month ago. My family's safety was put at risk because we were traveling at highway speed and the vehicle witnessed catastrophic engine failure. Due to catastrophic engine failure, the engine has not been turned on by the dealer since departing the service department. The vehicle was been inspected by the service department at a certified Chevrolet dealer. Interestingly, there were no warning lights or any type of warning other than the severe sound coming from the engine compartment. Prior to engine failure, there were no other symptoms of the problem other than the low pitched whine that progressively got louder over a ~30 second period of time. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The vehicle lost power and went into limp mode on 3/3. I had it transported to a dealership and they said there was metal containments in the motor. I got it back on 3/17 and they said all was well but it never drove right. It broke down again on 3/20 and the said the throttle body was out. Why had they not found this issue before? this seems to be a recurring issue with this model truck.
Engine started knocking, brought it to dealer, scoped cylinder number two and confirmed piston ring failure. New engine needed.
Vehicle info: 2019 Silverado 1500 6. 2l engine with 66,xxx miles. On 3/1/26 while towing my small snowmobile trailer I was driving on I-90 with cruise control set at 65 mph. Very suddenly and shockingly I heard an extremely loud knocking noise from the engine. I then witnessed several driver info messages stating things like "low oil pressure" "engine power reduced" among others and a check engine light. Amongst freeway traffic and now under no engine power and coasting I made an emergency lane change out of the passing lane and into the right lane and subsequently on to the shoulder of the interstate. Oil pressure was also noted to be very low during these events. I called a friend to pick me up off the side of the freeway and also had a local towing company get my truck and trailer off the side of the highway ASAP. This was a dangerous scenario and could've ended much worse. The vehicle is now at my residence and I am not sure what steps to take right now. As I am very aware of the current recall on similar models with the same engine. I have followed the issues and complaints of these trucks and suvs with the l87 6. 2l engine closely. I was under the impression that my vehicle was not included in the recall and I have always been very diligent about vehicle maintenance. I've been watching my truck closely for abnormal noises, power or oil pressure loss or any other strange symptoms I have not noticed any warning signs. I even recently switched to the new dexos approved 0w-40 engine oil that gm is recommending and/or mandating. This was very sudden and scary scenario. I do have video of the engine noises if theyre. Theyre not currently formatted for this report.

2022 Silverado 1500 6. 2l total engine failure, replacement needed.
Incident description: while driving at highway speeds, the oil cooling lines on my vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure, resulting in a total loss of engine oil within seconds. To ensure my safety and avoid being stranded in high-speed traffic, I proceeded less than a quarter-mile to reach the nearest exit. During the cooling process after the vehicle was stopped, the engine seized due to extreme thermal damage caused by the sudden lack of lubrication. Safety risk: the sudden and total loss of engine oil at highway speeds presents a significant safety hazard. It creates an immediate risk of sudden engine stall or seizure while in traffic, which could lead to a high-speed collision. Furthermore, a high-volume oil leak onto hot engine components represents a severe fire risk. Technical evidence & manufacturer response: there are existing technical service bulletins (tsbs) for this specific vehicle model that explicitly identify these oil cooling lines as a known failure point. These tsbs state that failure to replace these lines can lead to the engine becoming non-functional. Despite this documented manufacturing defect and the clear safety implications of a sudden engine failure on a highway, Chevrolet has refused to provide a remedy, insisting that the engine replacement be paid for out-of-pocket. Requested action: I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this known defect for a potential safety recall, as the failure of these lines constitutes a predictable and dangerous loss of vehicle power and potential fire hazard.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, there was a banging sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the lifters and the camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Engine oil cooler line leaks and crimping does not hold hose tight enough and slipped off crimp fitting. Line came completely off of crimp fitting and leaked all engine oil. Forced engine to be turned off and low engine oil marked on dash.
2021 silverado ltz l87 6. 2l v8 engine. 49753 mi. February 27th 2026 total loss of power when parking. A few weeks later hearing knocking noises coming from driver side engine area. This is my daily driver and need this issued fixed.
On [xxx], my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 lt caught fire while parked in my residential driveway at [xxx] . The vehicle had been started approximately 10 minutes earlier using the factory-installed remote start system. The vehicle was unattended at the time. My neighbor noticed the vehicle on fire and called 911. The andover fire department responded and extinguished the fire. The fire department indicated the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. The fire appeared to originate in the dashboard and steering column area based on visible damage and fire progression. The vehicle had approximately 60,000 miles and was properly maintained. There were no prior warning lights, messages, or symptoms before the fire. The remote start system was factory-installed and not aftermarket. The vehicle is currently available for inspection by insurance, manufacturer, or investigators at [xxx] . The vehicle is likely a total loss due to the extent of the fire damage. This incident posed a serious safety risk as the vehicle caught fire spontaneously while parked near my home. The fire could have spread to my residence or caused injury if someone had been inside or near the vehicle. The fire department responded, and an official fire report is pending. Insurance claim has been opened and inspection is pending. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, there was a metallic sound as if a bolt had fallen inside the engine compartment and was rotating and spinning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the camshaft and the engine lifters had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling) and NHTSA action numbers: ea25007 (engine, engine and engine cooling) and rq26001 (engine). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance because the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
The truck is jumpy during stops. I get a low voltage code but the battery is fine I had it checked out. Reduced acceleration has been activated and after I turn the truck off it is fine. The check engine light comes on and turns off on it's on sometimes same day. I know there is a recall on certain 2022 silverados but they told me this one wasn't on the recall. It did have one for the brake system they said.
I was driving my 2025 chevy silverado rst l87 (6. 2) with 37,836 miles on the highway and suddenly my engine lost power and my dash said “needs to restart”. My truck went into neutral and I was able to coast off of the highway. After coming to a complete stop, I tried to restart with no success. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership where they found metal shavings in the engine and told me I’m going to need a new engine.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 30-35 mph and exiting the interstate with a speed limit of 55 mph, the instrument panel, check engine, stability control, and several other warning lights illuminated. The vehicle felt like there was a misfire coming from the engine. The contact pulled into the nearest parking lot and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, while not exceeding 25 - 30 mph. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the camshaft was damaged, and the valve lifters had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer opened a case regarding the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
My engine completely died, and a complete loss of propulsion happened. My safety was put at risk due to no power while on busy highway. This problem with l87 engines (6. 2) has been reported extensively. The vehicle was inspected for gm program # n252494000, NHTSA 25v74 for above issues and was inspected on 2025-08-28. Inspection passed, but the failure ultimatel happened on 2025-02-25. Dealer indicated engine was covered under original powertrain warranty and gm would send a remanufactured engine. Dealer has still not received the engine as of Monday (2/23), which is almost a month later. While driving on a us highway in a rural area, my engine suddenly died while driving approximately 60mph. The restart engine light came on, and I quickly was unsure what was happening as I felt myself slowing down slightly after realizing I had no power and the engine would not restart. I believe it went to neutral automatically. I was in the inside lane, and it was incredibly dangerous due to traffic around me. I could not easily exit to side of road due to the traffic, but luckily a gap formed, and I was able to abruptly get off the road. I have kids in the car daily, and this would have been life threatening had it happen in any other scenario, or especially in a larger city or busier highway. I am confident this is related to gm's issues with the 6. 2 liter engines. I have a 2023 Silverado 1500 zr2 that this happened to. The loss of propulsion is clearly due to the defect in these engines.
The engine seized while at highway speed in traffic during evening rush hour. The engine failure has been confirmed by a gm dealer and is set for replacement. There was no warning or indication that total engine failure was imminent.
Engine oil cooler line leaking at the crimps.
Purchased 2023 Chevrolet silverado zr2 with 6. 2 l engine in November 2025 with 3400 miles on it. According to the dealership the engine passed the recall on 09/25. At 6,500 miles the check engine light, esc light, stability control light came on. Engine was running rough, degradation of engine power, and very rough transmission shifting. Vehicle was taken back to purchasing dealership and was told the lifters and rods will have to be replaced.
The first thing was the whole engine shut itself off going 40mph and slowing down thankfully after I turned the truck off and back on it started right back up then I was driving 75 on the highway a couple days later and the whole truck started to shake as check engine lights came on and flash and the engine started to tick and groan. We pulled the spark plugs and cylinder 5 had clearly not been firing as it was designed to and then later found that the entirety of cylinder 5 had basically shredded itself from the inside out. Now my truck is waiting at the shop for a new engine. Both cases I had my kids in the car trying to get home.
My entire engine and the right bank lifters failed. Thankfully, these issues didn't fail until my truck was parked in my garage. No warning lamps did not trigger until these issues started. There was no warning. I have been having engine issues with this truck dating back to 2022. I will include all documents showing the issues I've had in the past 3 years. I was informed by the dealer that this is a known issue with this year and model of truck and even they were surprised that gm hasn't issued a recall. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership only.
Loss of engine propulsion while traveling down a highway towing a #5000 trailer at 65 mph. Less than five miles before the failure the vehicle experienced a momentary downshift of the transmission such as you would experience while climbing a hill or extreme headwind. No warning lights were present at that time or at any time prior to engine shutdown. Upon failure panel indicated "press engine start" and transmission indicated "park" though we were rolling/coasting at over 60 mph. Realizing that we had lost propulsion I guided the vehicle to the shoulder and stopped. Solid check engine light on at this time. Depressing the "start" button while stopped would not start or crank over the engine. Boost box would not crank engine, slight noise from starter as if unable to turn engine over. Called tow truck, seewald's towing in st. Ignace, mi. Towed to nearest Chevrolet dealer wheeler motors cheboygan, mi.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle lost automotive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with an engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. In addition, the contact related the failure to an unknown NHTSA investigation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
Internal oil consumption. With no oil puddled or spattered under the vehicle at time of purchase from a dealership or since then, a dealer certified vehicle with afm at 153 miles from leaving the dealer the oil was non-existant on the dipstick. This directly indicates a TSB, techical service bulletin involving the cause of failed lifters causing internal oil consumption and damage to lifters, cam shaft, push rods, rings and possibly more. This is a common result of the active fuel management system which shuts off some of the cylinders for fuel economy for Chevrolet v6 and v8 engines. The problem was reported to the dealer by me imediately after the oil check at 153 miles and then towed to the dealer. As this is considered a catastrophic amount of oil loss, the vehicle could've been rendered inoperatable during operation in traffic and been a servere safty hazard. The dealer after initial inspection sent me a message that they think the problem is an undetectable small leak so they put some dye in the oil to check it. Which evades the actual internal consumption problem of 1. 5 to 2 or more quarts of oil lost in just 153 miles by that ratio that would amount to 13 quarts per 1,000 miles. And helps them stall for time, to try to run out the very short 3 month/3000 mile drivetrain warranty. There was noticable erratic engine performance and some shudder but that shudder may have come from the transmission. The odometer read was 115690 at purchase and 115843 when towed=153 miles driven from when the certified inspection was performed for a loss of 1. 5 to 2 quarts that I know of, it could have been much more oil missing. A suddenly inoperatable vehicle in town at intersections or on the highway at high speeds could be deadly for myself or others in traffic. I took and have videos of checking the dipstick to show it dry but it's an mp4 file which I don't see a place to upload it here. Available upon request.
While stopped at a stop light engine quit running and after three attempts to restart mil appeared and stated low oil pressure. Safety hazards included; being stuck at an intersection blocking traffic and putting myself at risk of being rear ended. Was below freezing temperatures and stranded for an hour before tow arrived gm dealership found engine to be bad and needs replaced.
While driving on interstate the screen said press button to start and the engine turned off on a steep uphill. After attempting to restart I tried to safely get to the shoulder without causing a wreck. This left us on the side of interstate for hours on a blind hilltop with trucks coming feet from us. After towing to the dealership they notified me that the engine was done and it fell victim to the recall that chevy just had on the 6. 2. Mind you I had already brought this truck in for the recall inspection and it supposedly passed.
Driving 30 mph down a city street when heard a pop and vehicle completely lost power at speed. Engine turned off and I coasted to a stop, which was unfortunately at an intersection and due to traffic could not get over safely. All accessories were still on however I could not restart the vehicle or put the vehicle into neutral, which left me stranded in the middle of a busy intersection. Hazards were working intermittently, at best. Had to call local pd to provide traffic control while we disconnected the battery and reconnected it while standing in an intersection. After I was able to get the vehicle restarted it had a check engine light and the onstar app showed transmission, ignition, and engine electrical warnings. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership, where they have had it for 7 days and cannot diagnose an issue and are trying to return the vehicle to me unfixed. They stated they typically would not even try to diagnose it for this long, however I have a case open with the gm executive team.
