Since purchase in 2018, my pickup truck has had a ticking and banging sound which includes rough idling and a check engine light. During routine maintenance, oil changes, etc. I have continued to ask about the noise but gm technicians have said nothing is wrong. In November 2025, I took the truck to a local shop for an oil change and that’s when I learned it has lifter issues. Upon investigating whether other chevy silverado truck owners are experiencing the same thing, I’ve learned about various recall and extended warranty programs offered by general motors. I’m wondering when or if my 2018 chevy silverado might be included in a recall or could I be offered an extended warranty?.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, the vehicle began to shake violently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact then stated that there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle; however, the knocking sound persisted. The contact slowly drove the vehicle to the residence and later had the vehicle towed to the dealer. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and remained with the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

The coolant control valve and the transmission control module are having to be replaced on thousands of Silverado 1500s from 2022 to 2025. Both parts have been updated, but there is no recall and many people are being left stranded due to this. Mine has not currently failed, but I am older and really don’t want to get stranded due to a known issue. Why wouldn’t they have been forced to do a recall general motors should be replacing these as a preemptive precaution.
I had just received my truck back from a complete engine replacement from the dealer and had driven it 10 miles back to my house and the check engine light came on and the dash said reduced power service dpf system. The truck was towed to dealer for po302 code and injector #3 was replaced.
I was driving to work in the morning and started to accelerate to the speed limit of 45, and at about 35mph my truck completely shut off. I tried to push the start button while coasting with no avail. I pulled to the shoulder and tried to start it and it would slowly crank similar to a dead battery. I towed it home, then tried to start it later in the day and it started no issues, however ever since then there is a knocking noise from the lower end. I have had it parked for a few weeks and Monday December 15th it will go in to a chevy dealership for a diagnostic appointment. No there was no lights or warnings related to this, and this did put my life in danger being stranded on the shoulder of a road with limited room to pull off too early in the morning dark out.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed, and the vehicle lost motive power and came to a stop in the middle of a four-lane highway. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it could not be serviced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where metal shavings were found in the oil pan, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle remained at the dealer for a month, and the dealer was in the process of ordering the part. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that assistance would not be provided because the vehicle was purchased used and was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
Since brand new engine has had oil consumption issues. Countless times I have been told it is ok and there is no problems with it. I took it to a different dealer and I am now being told I need to replace pistons and rings.
I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 35 mph entering the flow of traffic, the vehicle lost power with the engine misfiring. The messages "service parking brake" and "service esc" were displayed. The check engine warning light was also illuminated. I drove to the nearest dealership the vehicle was diagnosed that cylinder #5 lifters had collapsed. The dealer informed me that the cylinder lifters needed to be replaced. Additionally, the camshaft would be replaced as necessary. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer will be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. And I was informed that my service contract had expired less than 2 months ago.
My engine on my 2021 Silverado 1500 with the 6. 2l l87 engine failed, I took it to the dealer to repair and they quoted $4500 to fix it. I know these same engines are being recalled and gm is having to replace them, but they told me mines not one of the ones being recalled and the won't cover it because the warranty was up 5,000 miles ago. I highly doubt it's a coincidence, that mine failed after only 65,000 miles and it's not a manufacturer flaw. The vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting repairs.
“2019 silverado 5. 3l – engine knock + oil leak post-warranty install = fire/breakdown risk”.
The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed. No warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact became aware of abnormal oil consumption and sound coming from under the hood. The local dealer was contacted; however, the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
I was driving my vehicle when the check engine light came on and a message then came across the screen and stated the truck would no longer shift if I didn’t stop driving it. I took it immediately to autonation Chevrolet service on Nov 9. I received it back on 11/26 my service advisor said it passed inspection that no work was completed I needed to use high synthetic oil and filters for my truck to keep it going. This doesn’t sound correct when I’ve owned several chevy/GMC trucks. I only have 33k miles on my truck and want the recall fixed. Please help me get this taken care of. "the vehicle has developed a recurring ticking/knocking noise in the engine, worsening under acceleration, accompanied by excessive oil consumption. This is a repeat issue after a warranty repair on June 6, 2022, where all 8 lifters on the right bank were replaced due to afm/dfm lifter failure. I believe the current problem is caused by metal debris from the initial failure scoring cylinder walls, rings, and bearings, leading to lower-end damage. Gm denied coverage under special coverage adjustment n242498000 despite the prior repair and matching symptoms in bulletin pip5623. Johnson motor sales quoted $14,893. 89 for engine replacement. The noise and oil loss pose a safety risk of sudden engine failure or loss of power while driving, potentially causing a crash. ".
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment, and the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with crankshaft failure. The dealer discovered metal shavings in the engine oil and oil filter, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The replacement engine was ordered, and the vehicle was repaired. After the engine replacement, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle felt difficult to operate. Additionally, while the vehicle was parked and turned off, the vehicle failed to restart and lost motive power without any warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, who found that the metal bar located near the battery was very loose. The mechanic also informed the contact that due to the prior crankshaft failure, the transfer fuse box, starter motor, and battery had failed and required replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that upon inspecting the replacement engine, the manufacturer’s sticker indicated that the engine was a remanufactured engine, and there was dirt and debris on the engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,650.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while his son-in-law was driving 61 mph, the vehicle made an abnormal clanking sound and stalled. The driver pulled over safely. The onstar mobile app alerted the driver of an issue with the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal ticking sound prior to the failure. Upon arriving to the location of the vehicle, the contact noticed an oil leak underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that he was a certified mechanic, and the vehicle was towed to the contact's auto repair shop, where the contact determined that the rod had gone through the engine block. The contact called an unknown local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Engine failure 6 Nov 2025 yes, engine is available for inspection. Possible loss power, unable to control the vehicle. Vehicle engine failure has been confirmed by dealership, ruben milton Chevrolet and jim hudson Cadillac in augusta georgia. Vehicle has not been inspection by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. No warning light, no knocking noise, no messages on dashboard.
Vehicle was at a stoplight with the auto start button engaged on it. The vehicle completely stalled. All the power is drained from the car. Leaving me stranded in the highway. I got it towed and when replacing the battery still nothing will roll over or even turn on.
When driving normal speeds to work on a county road, engine light comes on, service light comes on. There was a tapping noise and reduced power. Luckily, there was a sports field parking lot that I could pull into to get out of traffic. We had the truck towed to our house through our roadside assistance program so that we could determine what to do. If we had not been able to pull off the road as quickly as we did, we probably would have been hit by the semi that was barreling behind us. The truck had reduced power.
While driving down the road the engine quit. There were no indicators of anything wrong. Check engine light was not on. It just quit while driving. I didn’t have any notice. I wasn’t even able to get it off of the road. When it did come to a stop. The engine would not restart. I was stranded and had to get a tow. I had it towed to my mechanic and upon inspection, he says it needs a new motor. My truck has ran fine with all the regular maintenance up to this point.
As I was driving the vehicle it seems to be hesitating or jerking and when I tried to start it,it would say put your foot on the brakes to start, but my foot was on the pedal and it was slow starting. Days later the engine light came on,took it to the dealership and they told me it was a problem with the brake system. I bought the vehicle brand new, only 41,000 miles,on it now, warranty went out in June of this year. I very rarely drives it and now they saying its a 4,000 job to get it fixed.
The truck has 61000 miles on it I got it in August there is engine knock which sounds like a bearing might’ve went and now the rod is loose in there. There is a large recall already regarding the same make and model of my truck for this exact issue.
Dealer says my vehicle is not approved to even check the motor out. Build date 6/21 6. 2l motor under recall.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, there was an abnormal pop and ticking sound coming from under the hood. The check engine and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failure in cylinder #7 and piston failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,600.
Loud tapping sound appears to be coming from lifters and/or camshaft lobes from cylinder 2. Preliminary diagnosis was done by independent service center. Estimated cost to repair could be as much as $10,000. Vehicle odometer reads 72,108 miles. Vehicle started this problem early November 2025.

Engine just died going 55 mph on a paved road. Gm repair shop says engine needs to replaced. They originally told me my 6. 2l engine was a recall, but my VIN didn’t show on database. Seems gm’s scope was not wide enough on their recall. I feel I deserve a new engine.
Traveling at 75 mph on highway truck went into reduced acceleration mode putting my wife and I in danger. There were many simi trucks having to swerve as my vehicle reduced speed at a high rate and was unable to safetly come to a stop. There was a bulletin released prior to my purchase that was not disclosed that could have warned of potential danger of complete engine loss. Was told by dealership engine grenaded dealership confirmed needed new engine and turbo and they are on back order which leads me to believe that I am not the only one this has happened to.
While driving on a residential side street my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (81,996 miles) suddenly lost power steering and braking with no waring. Several messages appeared in the dash and the check engine light illuminated. I was able get the vehicle safely to the shoulder and put in park without power steering or brakes. At this point the engine stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the nearest chevy dealer on 10/29/2025. The technician verified the loss of power steering, brakes, and several other codes and diagnosed the issue as corroded engine grounding straps per gm bulletin #23-na-201. The grounding straps were replaced and the codes cleared. The technician test drove the vehicle and verified normal operation after the repair. I was responsible for paying the full cost of these repairs as my vehicle was out of warranty. I feel incredibly fortunate that this happened on a residential side street with no traffic. Had this failure happened on the expressway while pulling my 4,000 lb trailer, this could have been a fatal accident if I suddenly lost power steering, brakes and had the engine stall like it did. I see multiple complaints for this issue on the NHTSA website and the gm TSB for this issue dates back to 2023. I am shocked that this is not a nationwide recall yet. It is a significant safety threat to the driver and others. I also know this is not an isolated incident, as my service advisor at the dealer suggested it was probably the grounding straps before the technician even inspected my vehicle. It was pretty clear from our conversation that I was not the first vehicle they had repaired with this issue.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 30-40 mph, the check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated, and the engine was running rough. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be diagnosed due to a lack of equipment. The vehicle was then taken to gary sapp automotive, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be taken apart for the repair or replacement. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under an extended warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
While driving on 401 east the vehicle started to shake and the service esc error code came on. This vehicle has had all service completed at GMC and had no issues. Stopped at dealership and they ran diagnostic tests to report back the engine has failed and requires replacement. 6,2l l87 is all ready on recall replacement but this same engine is not covered even though same symptoms and diagnosis was determined by dealership.
6 weeks since purchase and only 2000 miles-engine suddenly made a horrible rattling noise and stalled. Towed to dealership and was told engine was dead and needed replacement.
Gm 6. 2 engine recently tested for the national recall regarding valve and lifter issues. Recall was cleared as ok, but they found burnt cylinders in multiple areas within the engines. Several issues are still occurring with this engine, and I think most are related to the recall effort. 1. Engine will use oil at an abnormal pace when towing anything heavy. Recently used an additional 2 quarts of oil when towing a trailer that weighed 10, 000 pounds over 1600 miles. 2. Recently engine seemed to lose compression at a stop light and turned off. This happened an additional 5 times until I could get the truck off the road and into a safe place. The engine would immediately start and then die within 5-10 seconds. Towed to a Chevrolet dealership and the service manager tried to move it into the bay for diagnostic testing. Started and stopped 4 additional times as they attempted to drive if 100 feet into the service bay. Towed to my hometown dealer that afternoon for diagnostics testing. The next morning when they started the truck it cranked fine and has been running since (7 days). No lights appeared on the dash during the breakdown or warnings appeared in their testing I have spoken to several other Chevrolet owners about the 6. 2 engine issues and what was occurring with my truck they also had seen an increase in oil usage when towing heavy. I believe that your investigation needs to delve further into not only issues with the lifter / rods but also into other mechanical concerns that are oil dependent and related such as burnt cylinders. This last issue occurred on October 27, 2025.
