Front Air Bag Sensor Control Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - part 2

-the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 35 mph the airbag warning light indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the air bag module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the airbag warning light indicator continued to illuminate. The failure mileage was 99,000. The current mileage was 103,340. Updated 11/16/10.

The front right air bag sensor in my 2005 chevy silverado failed for no apparent reason causing the air bag system to be DE-activated until the sensor was replaced. The vehicle is 4 years old and has 35,000 miles on it and was not involved in any accidents to my knowledge. The issue is that when a sensor fails, the entire air bag system is DE-activated until repairs are completed, causing owners to drive the vehicle without the safety feature. General motors made it very clear that they had no intention of correcting the problem for free. Replacement of the sensor cost $275 for labor and parts. A service request was filed with general motors asking for them to pay for the repair and the request was denied. I could afford the repair, however many people may not be able to and will end driving their vehicle without an important safety feature.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Over the last six weeks, the vehicle has been in the shop five times regarding the air bag system. The dealer has been unable to correct the failure or determine if the air bags are operable. The contact notified general motors, but they have yet to respond. They did, however, state that the service from the dealer was satisfactory. The air bag sensor continues to illuminate. The failure mileage was 24,000 and current mileage was 26,204.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 45 mph, the contact noticed that the air bag light was dim. He stated that his wife was seated in the passenger seat at the time and weighs 120 pounds. He also stated that the air bag light is off 75% of the time and should be illuminated at all times when the passenger seat is occupied. The dealer and manufacturer stated that his wife's weight is too light to activate the system, which is a normal function. The dealer test drove the vehicle and concluded that nothing was wrong. The manufacturer stated that they would send him a video to support the dealer's conclusion. The current mileage was 650 and failure mileage was 350. Updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07.

Driver air bag sensor failure after impact on accident. I was driving 2004 chevy silverado truck, other driver came almost head on in my lane tried avoiding got hit on passenger side rear quarter panel,caused vehicle to spin twice due to drive shaft broke upon 1st impact,lost control of car after spinning I was on the opposite side which crashed front end to driver side of another car. Driver that hit me on 1st impact was charged with dwi and no insurance. Funny thing I was asked by police if front air bag was deployed,and told him no. But was not noted on his report. Bottom line I have neck injury which I'm treating that don't know the final outcome yet.
