After owning the brand new truck for less than 24 hours (approximately 170 miles on the odometer of the vehicle), I was driving in a straight line on a 2 lane highway at approx. 50-55mph. My foot was lightly on the accelerator, maintaining speed, as I had just passed through a traffic circle about a mile prior, and was in a small line of "traffic" travelling on the road. The rear wheels began to lightly shake (it felt similar to driving on rumble strips) for approximately 3-5 seconds, then several warning lights on the dash lit up and the truck violently "jerked" then pulled and drifted onto the right side of the road, onto the shoulder. The truck then sputtered and stalled. I did not attempt to restart or move the vehicle, instead worked with the dealership to obtain a tow truck.

First incident: vehicle driven 100 miles and then shut off for about 6 hours. Started right up and moved about 100 yards and shut off for about 30 minutes. Tried to start it and wouldn't start. After about 15 minutes, it started and vehicle driven home without further problem. Second incident, vehicle stall while moving in city traffic (about 35 mph). Came to a stop at the bottom of a busy underpass near a major intersection. I called 911 and asked that a wrecker be dispatched. As 911 waiting for a response from the wrecker company (two to three minutes), the vehicle started and I returned to my residence. Scan with obd device indicated crankshaft position sensor failure. Internet research of the problem confirms. Your investigation ea06-016 and subsequent NHTSA campaign number 07v521000 crankshaft position sensor indicates a saftey recall. For some reason, gm (denny menholt Chevrolet) as well as your website, indicates no recalls on this vehicle. I have an appointment at the above dealership on 10/22 to have the cps replaced. Why isn't my vehicle part of the recall? the stall while moving at 35 mph was dangerous and the repair is expensive! thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.
The glow plugs and fuel injectors fail prematurely I was told by the locol servace manager that there was plenty of time to get the repairs but a few weeks later when I brought it in for the supposed free repairs they tell me the time for mine is over its too old. When no one had showed me a print out and the company I bout it from never disclosed the issue. If the vehicle stalls in traffic it could cause an accident.

This is the 3rd time for injectors in our 2003 injectors, not one injector. . . All 8. Lucky this time just 4 hrs. From home and somebody to come with trailer to pick us up. Seems innectors only last 20 tp 30,000 miles and they are gone cracked. Gm wont back them knowing they are a problem, and $5,000. 00 each time they are replaced. Gm injectors are junk out the door and leaving hundreds of owners stranded on highway and suffering tow bill and repairs, but this time we almost got rear ended by a semi truck which slammed on his breaks blowing a tire to miss us and our horse trailer with 3 horses in it. The abf trucker that almost hit us in the rear pulled over as we did, and told him the truck just stalled, we pulled the hood and diesel fuel was all over the place and he stated I cracked my injectors, the local gm dealer told me the same thing and that year has plenty of problems with injectors but gm wont replace them. Whats it going to take, another bus load of kids killed to resolve this issue?? another $5,000. 00 donation to gm.

Crankshaft position sensor product safety recall #06083--2001 chevy silverado 8. 1l v8 engine. I have the exact engine and truck, but my VIN is not included in the recall. I have a defective crankshaft position sensor that causes the truck to stall occasionally--even at highway speeds and while towing a large trailer. Chevrolet refuses to cover the repair under the recall.
My vehice would stall out on me at any time for about 2 months it didn't matter what speed I was doing or where I was it would stall out so I would have to coast to the side of the road with no power steering and wait to crank the vehicle back up. Then December 23 2008 I was on my way home and it completely stopped I couldn't get it to crank battery was completely dead and it was at night on a highway. I took it to every dealer ship and every mechanic and noone could tell me what was wrong with it. Finally I looked online at recalls and found that there is a recall for the exact make and model of my vehicle but when I called GMC they told me that there was no recall for my vehicle so I went and paid out of my own pocket to fix this problem. This is a major problem that they have found but aren't doing anything about it for me I mean if they have the recall already for the same vehicle then why isn't my vehicle included?.
Chevrolet 2500hd w/ 8. 1 liter engine, stalls and hesitates. The engine will usually restart but will stall again. I stalled in an intersection and was nearly struck by a Ford mustang. Dealership diagnosis - crankshaft position sensor.
Vehicle stalls/stops running without any warning. At times it will restart by itself. Other times vehicle has to be manually restarted. This is a major problem when on the highway or in traffic, especially if you are towing a trailer etc. Had to replace crankshaft position sensor to correct problem.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. On the third attempt, the vehicle restarted. The failure occurred on numerous occasions whether the vehicle was in motion or not. An authorized dealer informed him that the problem could not be diagnosed without an indicator light being illuminated. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics but it was verified that no diagnosis could be given without an indicator light. The current mileage is approximately 81,000. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. Updated evoq 11/02/10.
Crankshaft position sensor is operating intermittently causing vehicle stalling during normal driving. This failure is so far random and may or may not occur each time the vehicle is driven. No ses light accompanies this failure. So far engine will restart after 10-15 seconds with key off. This failure seems similar to NHTSA campaign # 07v521000 addressing the same issue on the previous model year of this vehicle. This failure has been ongoing for the past several months and seems to be occurring more frequently lately.
My 2001 Chevrolet silverado stalls while driving. There is no warning when this happens. I must bring the truck to a halt and try to restart. Sometimes it takes two or three tries before it starts. It seems to happen in warm weather.
We own a 2002 Chevrolet silverado LS 2500 hd with allison trans. & vortec 8100 8. 1 liter v8 engine. The check-engine light was coming on, the engine ran rough, and sometimes stalled completely, usually after starting up from a stop. Our dealer replaced the crank sensor and we have had no problems since. However, we recently heard (and found information on your website) that 29 of 2001 chevy or GMC models had a recall for crank sensors (NHTSA #ea06016). Is an investigation under way for the 2002 models? who do we need to contact?.
Vehicle stalls suddnly while driving. No definite pattern to the stalling. Stalls at least once a day. Has been occuring for about the last year to year and a half. Will pull over, wait anywhere between 5-20min and the vehicle wil start again.
Possible event. My 2001 silverfish 2500 hd(8. 1 l) is stalling and hard to start. My independent mechanic believes that it could be the crankshaft position sensor that has a recall. I contacted the chevy folks and they said that my VIN number is out side of the recall list for 2001 model. This is a real safety problem when truck stalls. 2001 Chevrolet silverado recall id from NHTSA: 07v521000.
My 2001 Chevrolet silverado hd2500 p/u started having intermittent stalling problems in July 2007. The engine would die and it would take a few minutes to restart. Finally in sept 2007 it died on the freeway when I was traveling at over 65 mph. The powersteering stopped and the power brake assist stopped. I was lucky that I didn't have a high speed accident. The truck was taken to the local Chevrolet dealer and they replaced the crankshaft position sensor and charged me $420. 99. The vehicle only had 37,546 miles on it at the time but was out of warranty. I have not had any further problems since the repair. I contacted Chevrolet about their recall # 06083 NHTSA id#07v521000 and they advised that my vehicle did not qualify. I don't understand why since it is the same 8. 1 engine and year/model. If you go on the gm-truck. Com web site you will see that this is avery common and dangerous problem with the 2001 8. 1 gm engines.
