2020 3. 0 diesel duramax sucked in the antifreeze and caused a hydrolock. The dealer says that it is not covered under warranty since the engine was over 100k miles. They did offer a new engine for $30k which I declined. The truck was always well taken care of and only received the best in all products.

Loud ticking sound from engine corresponding with engine speed (faster as the rpms increased). Took in to dealership out of concern and the rod bearings were spun necessitating a full engine replacement. This was only 4 months after it passed the inspection for recall - l87 engine loss of propulsion (related field action: see special coverage n252494003).

Gm should be ashamed of themselves not covering the shift to park issue that they have created. This is a known issue and should be recalled. It is impacting thousands of consumers.
My 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd bison zr2 (VIN [xxx] ) suddenly lost all power steering, acceleration, and propulsion while driving my children to school at approximately 8:00 am on March 16, 2026. The truck came to a complete stop with no warning lights or prior indication. This matches the exact ‘critical issue with the engine and transmission system’ alert I received from onstar advanced diagnostics the same morning. Steering was completely unresponsive and I had no acceleration. My children were passengers — this was extremely dangerous. I have not driven the vehicle since and have requested towing to the dealer. Please investigate under any open probes into 2024 silverado hd power-loss and steering failures. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On or about March 14, 2026 vehicle in question stopped working, losing all power and gave a message that the vehicle was over heating and to turn off immediately. A large amount of steam emitted through the coolant reservoir that was a mixture of oil and coolant. Vehicle was towed to a manufacturer service location. The oil/coolant system ruptured damaging the radiator, thermostat, hoses and related parts. Vehicle with low mileage/hours was consuming engine oil at what one would consider a greater rate. ( 1 quart every other day). Our organization is aware that the diesel model of this truck had a recall for a oil/cooling system issue and we believe the same liability may lay with the gas version. Mileage was approximately 13,000 at time of breakdown.
I was driving the truck on my way to work in [xxx] , last March 12, 2026, at around 6:50 am. It was raining when I entered the exit ramp to work going west; the truck died, and the steering wheel locked. I tried to start it, but it wouldn't. The dashboard displayed: 'trailer park brake failed,' 'power steering pump needs service,' and 'axle repair error. ' I was on the exit ramp for a highway that runs north and south, and I could have been t-boned; it was still dark. The truck was towed to curry Chevrolet in scarsdale. They said it was the ecm and ordered the part. They installed the new ecm module last Tuesday, March 17. The service manager called me and said they tested the truck, but it is still showing active codes. A gm advisor called me saying the truck should be ready for pickup this Friday. However, this afternoon, I got a call from the service manager saying there is another issue—the engine wiring harness—and they will order the part; now it will not be ready until next week. Gm owes me my life. I do not want to drive the vehicle. The service department people at curry Chevrolet are very professional, but did I pay and spend a lot of money for a garbage truck? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. Similar to the issues that were on the gas version of this engine and the recall associated with it. The engine seized on the expressway. When it was towed to the dealership, they said it was catastrophic engine failure. They found a lot metal shavings in the oil pan. They did not diagnose any further due to cost. At the time it happened, there were no warning lights or check engine lights on.

The variable geometry turbocharger actuator failed on my 2019 2500hd silverado. There was a significant decrease in power. This was most noticeable on uphill grades where speed would drop to between 35 and 40 mph on a 75mph speed limit highway. On several occasions, vehicles came close to hitting me because of my slow speed.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the messages "service emission system”, “see owner's manual", and "65 mph max speed" were displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the diesel exhaust fluid gas tank connector terminal had overheated, and the gas tank and the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The contact associated the failure to the global warranty management: n212342980. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,794.
My pickup truck has a duramax diesel engine with a cp4 diesel injection pump. That pump has not failed yet in my truck. However it has been known to fail in numerous other gm vehicles with duramax engines and when it does fail the engine comes to a complete stop and cannot be restarted. This is a potentially hazardous even fatal situation. Repair if the pump fails is very expensive - $12,000 to $14,000 in some cases. I would like gm to replace the injection pump at my dealership to ensure this known failure does not occur. My pickup truck is otherwise in excellent condition.

My 2024 Chevrolet 2500hd duramax experienced a forced emissions derate event with a speed-limited countdown. The vehicle suddenly lost normal operating capability and became unsafe and undrivable. The truck was disabled in enid, oklahoma and had to be recovered and transported to a dealership. Prior to failure, the vehicle showed abnormal def/emissions behavior. The failure involves the scr/def emissions system. I later confirmed this vehicle has a completed product emissions recall for scr fault detection. Despite that recall, the emissions system failed and triggered a derate and loss-of-mobility event. The truck is currently at classic Chevrolet in owasso, ok for diagnosis.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the injection pump needed to be replaced, and that the vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The contact researched and became aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 194,000.
The check engine light goes on continously and it goes to limp mode. The truck cannot be driven daily and most of the time is in the dealer fixing the updates or computer. It is not an equipment problem but a computer problem.
First issue was around April-may 2025 when my engine started knocking and burning fuel. Warning light came on and it went right in to the dealer where I have all my maintenance done. They determined that it due to (2) faulty fuel injectors and I had them replaced at that time. In December of 2025 my engine started doing the same thing as before with the knocking and burning fuel and reduced speeds when on the highway so again it went into the dealer. It has since been in there and first was told it was the fuel injector again. They priced out the one was bad and I asked them to replace the remaining 6 fuel injectors so I didn't have this issue again in the near future. They did and the vehicle had the same issues going on. During the next inspection it was determined that the engine needed new rocker arms. These were replaced but this also did not solve the problem and the vehicle would not pass the regeneration on the engine. During the next inspection it was determined that we needed to replace a cylinder and one of the valves. After this was complete they were still having issues and then I was told that the piston was bad and there are (2) bad valves so I need an entire engine replacement. My truck only has 130,000 miles and has been in the shop for almost 2 months last year from engine issues and it has had all maintenance completed at he same dealership with records.
I own a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd duramax diesel with approximately 100,300 miles. The truck began displaying a “service emissions system” warning and a countdown message that in a certain number of miles the vehicle will be limited in speed (for example to 65 mph). Gm’s own duramax diesel owner’s supplement explains that when a “service emission system” message appears it is accompanied by a distance-until-speed-limit countdown and that the truck will progressively limit speed first to about 65 mph and then to about 55 mph if the condition is not corrected, telling the owner to see the dealer. This creates a safety risk because the derate can occur while driving on highways or rural roads, where an unexpected limit on maximum speed can interfere with merging, passing, and keeping up with traffic. This is our only vehicle, and we must use it for important medical appointments, including cardiology and surgery-related visits. The condition started only about 300 miles beyond gm’s 5-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. I opened a case with Chevrolet / gm corporate (service request no. Xxx) and took the truck to sons Chevrolet in columbus, georgia on November 17, 2025 for this issue and a rear wheel lockup recall. The dealer kept the truck from about 9:00 a. M. To 3:00 p. M. And indicated they might need to keep it for at least two more days, but I was not given a clear written explanation of the diagnostic trouble codes or a firm repair plan. Because gm’s own manuals describe this “service emission system” message together with speed-limit countdowns, and because the vehicle can actively limit speed on the road if the fault is not resolved, I am concerned this represents a broader emissions/derate defect on late-model silverado hd duramax trucks. I request that NHTSA review similar complaints and consider whether further investigation or a safety recall is warranted. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Had new western wideout snowplow (recommended by western) installed by western dealership on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd with the factory snow plow prep package (rpo vyu). Vehicles instrument cluster, hvac, radio and other electrical systems cut out while operating snowplow. Gm is well aware of this issue per gm service bulleting no. : pit5387c (Feb 2016) through pit5387p (10/17/2024), as well as gm upfitter integration ui bulletin #124k (11/7/2019). All list this specific vehicle. This issue effects snowplows by all manufactures and is not confined to western. Per the above bulletins published by gm, gm is to supply and install a wiring harness under a unique one time warranty procedure that does not expire with the vehicles base warranty. Gm dealerships as well as gm's consumer assistance hotline state that gm part number 84043394 (fitting 2014-2019 vehicles) referenced to in pit5387c and other bulletins has been discontinued. Up bulletin 124k refers to and instructs to install gm part number 84288774 vyu snow plow jumper harness per the latest version of gm service bulletin pit5387. With a note stating "this jumper harness and installation will be provided (one time) without charge". Gm dealerships and gm customer assistance (parts) state that pn 84288774 does not appear in their parts system as a valid gm part. The official gm parts store part. Gmparts. Com lists this part but shows that it does not fit this vehicle. Therefore neither gm nor western is able to provide any actionable solution to this known and documented issue. Gm manufactured, sold, promoted, advertised and continues to state that snowplows can be installed on these vehicles with (or without) gm's factory snow plow prep option. Additionally gm continues to issue and publish bulletins instructing gm dealerships how to fix this issue despite being fully aware of this impossibility. Gm has also made it impossible for gm to honor gm's own warranty that is still in effect for a known safty issue.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while slowing down and coming to a stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed while in drive; however, the vehicle started to roll backwards. The contact depressed the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards, and the rpm became elevated to 5,000 rpm. The contact immediately turned off the vehicle to prevent the rpm from continuing to increase. The vehicle was shifted to park, restarted, and then shifted to drive(d) and the brakes released. While releasing the brake pedal, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was immediately turned off and towed to the residence. The dealer was informed of the failure of the clutch pack, which was welded together from friction. The dealer scheduled an appointment; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I was driving down the road and I heard a clunk. I lost all power and coasted into a farmers field. The dash board said lost power, nothing else. I had no warning. Oil pressure was where it should be until is quit. Keller Chevrolet contacted us and told us the engine blew. The connecting rod broke and the piston come apart. I had service done on my truck 4 days prior. I always service my vehicle every 3,000 miles or 3 months which ever comes first. I have about 121,000 miles on my 2001 pickup. It has always been serviced at either bob schmidt Chevrolet or keller Chevrolet. We are in the process of getting a new engine from gm and having it installed at keller Chevrolet. You can contact them for more information.

I am writing to express my serious concern and frustration regarding the unresolved recall on my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 (VIN: [xxx] ). Despite multiple visits to multiple dealerships, I was repeatedly told that the necessary parts to complete the recall repair were on back order and instructed to “wait for parts. ” no interim solution or assistance was ever offered. As a result of this delay, my vehicle broke down without warning, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. This created a hazardous situation and significant disruption to my day. To make matters worse, I had to pay out of pocket to have the truck towed to a repair shop in an effort to get it operational—an expense I should never have incurred given the known recall and repeated attempts to have the issue corrected by Chevrolet. I have been a loyal Chevrolet owner and have always trusted the brand for its quality and dependability. However, this delay and lack of proactive support is causing significant inconvenience and eroding that trust. This situation is unacceptable for several reasons: 1. Safety risk and recall obligation: Chevrolet acknowledged the defect by issuing a recall, yet I have been forced to operate a vehicle that does not meet your own safety standards for months. 2. Repeated service attempts with no resolution: I followed the proper process and visited an authorized dealer multiple times, only to be turned away each time with no solution beyond “wait for parts. ” 3. Breakdown and financial loss: the vehicle failure and subsequent towing expense are a direct consequence of Chevrolet’s inability to provide timely parts or alternative accommodations. While driving on the freeway in a construction zone, I smelled a burning oil smell. I considered the possibility it was in relation to road repairs being done (roads being repaved, ie tar resurfacing). I was cut off by another vehicle and depressed my brakes and I saw a poof of smoke over the front passenger area near tire. I noticed all of my gauges were in the normal ranges (temperature, battery voltage, etc. ) in less than a minute my truck went into limp mode and advised it had a def system issue and it would be limited to a set mph and a set number of miles. Check engine light came on and another driver alerted me that the underneath of my vehicle was on fire. I pulled over to the side of the highway and my truck became engulfed in flames in. Truck is under factory warranty, unmodified, never been in an accident and has had all recommended services performed at local dealership. There was a significant amount of traffic and luckily I did not collide with anyone or set neighboring dry grass field on fire. Fire department responded and extinguished the fire, but it is a total loss. Insurance company has been notified, and vehicle will be available for inspection by appropriate agencies. While local law enforcement did respond, they did not take a report because I didn't hit anything, and the only property damage was my own. (there is documentation of the event, but just dispatch notes. ) prior to the situation above the truck had been at operating temperature for at least 20 minutes and I had traveled for about 20 miles on the highway. The total distance traveled from when I smelled the burning smell was maybe 1. 5 miles.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, and dtc: p133x (cylinder x glow plug failure) was retrieved. The contact was informed that the glow plug needed to be replaced and reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred with a different glow plug five months later. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determinedthat glow plug #3 had failed, and dtc: p0673, p0607, and p133a were retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,616.
I was on a two lane driving down the road and getting up to speed. I was still about 45 miles per hour on my way up to 55 mph my vehicle started DE rating very fast as I’m driving and then my engine shut off. I had no control over my steering as I made a turn to get off the two-lane road because there was no shoulder. I had to turn the steering wheel really hard and was not able to control the vehicle at all because the engine shut down completely. Everything shut down. I was sticking out in the road. I have no clue yet. What caused it I had to get it towed to a dealership. I just thank god I wasn’t on an interstate but still I was on a two lane and had just topped over a small hill where nobody could see me when they topped the little hill. It could’ve been a very dangerous situation.
With 19,000 miles on my Silverado 2500 hd I was traveling down a hill towards a stop sign at a t intersection. About 100 yeads from the stop sign I had many flashing errors on the dash, very little brake and very little steering. The engine just shot off. Fortunately I was able to stop the vehicle right at the stop sign while traffic from right and left had no stop sign. The truck would not start after. It did have electrical power. I tow was needed. The next day the chevy dealer did find a bulletin for a wire in the engine compartment chaffed. Symptoms were the same as what I experienced. Repair was made. Bulletin #24-na-124. There is no doubt a bulletin should be issued but I believe this is a real safety issue with the engine just randomly shutting off leaving no power to brakes and steering. Had this happened while I was towing our camper I would not have stopped and t boned another vehicle causing damage and no doubt injury to others and myself. If traveling on an interstate at 70 mph this could have been even worst. This is a known problem and should be a recall and not just a bulletin. Thanks.
Component/system: the allison 10?speed (10l1000) transmission valve body catastrophically failed on may?11,?2025, while driving Sunday afternoon down galveston seawall blvd. The truck abruptly dropped from 45?mph into limp mode in heavy traffic, forcing me to pull into the bike lane to avoid being rear?ended. The vehicle remains at classic Chevrolet (galveston,?TX) awaiting the oem valve body—which is on national backorder—and the complete transmission assembly is likewise unavailable. The failed valve body and transmission are available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: unexpected limp mode and gear lock?up in heavy traffic create an immediate risk of rear?end collisions or side impacts as surrounding drivers have no warning of sudden deceleration or loss of drive. Reproduction/confirmation: classic Chevrolet diagnosed and confirmed the failed valve body on may?12,?2025. Their service advisor and my assigned gm case agent (#70179205) have both acknowledged the defect but report no parts available for repair. Inspections: the vehicle has been inspected by classic Chevrolet under warranty. Gm customer care has reviewed my service orders and correspondence. No police or insurance inspections occurred, as no collision ensued—however, the roadside inspection at classic Chevrolet confirmed the mechanical failure. Warnings/symptoms: there were no prior warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure. The valve body failure occurred without any advance indication.
My business work truck started not shifting properly. I dropped it off at mirak Chevrolet in arlington, MA on 4/29/25 and they diagnosed the vehicle needing a valve body part # 24065357. Gm/Chevrolet has been unable to source this part and was unable to provide an eta. I immediately contacted gm and my case # is 51184758. Then it was approved and escalated for a new transmission and same issue unable to source part and no eta. This is my business vehicle that has not been operable since 4/29 due to a manufacturer issue. No fault on my end. This is a brand new vehicle that should not have these type of issues. I have lost revenue, income, jobs, and I don't have a replacement vehicle. I have a loan on this vehicle that I am making payments towards but there is no end in sight. It has been a month with daily calls to gm for an update or for someone to call me back and nothing. I need my work truck back. This has caused extreme financial stress. I need help.
All or most of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 models are having the same exact issue, the coolant hoses that cools transmission oil are exposed metal to metal rubbing against each others, and over time from driving normally will eventually cause transmission oil leaks in different areas of the hose element, gm technicians acknowledge it a faulty design from the manufacturer , so gm adapted a customer loyalty program but only to deny a fix or repair at there own expense. This is definitely should fall under a manufacturer recall.
The truck went to the dealer for recalls on March 21, 2025. The truck is still within the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Recalls consisted of tailgate fix, tcm & ecm updates. The truck was returned to me approximately a week later. I noticed a significant loss of power. I took the truck back to the dealer and told them about the issue. They had it another 2 days and returned it to me, saying there was nothing wrong. Approximately a week later, I was driving down the road and the check engine light appeared on the gauge cluster. I immediately drove the truck to the dealer, and the dtcs were emissions-related. The service advisor, jeff, told me to keep driving the truck, and it might go away. I drove the truck home, 20 mins away from the dealer, and as I pulled into my driveway, a message on the gauge cluster said, "add engine oil. " I notified the dealer of the issue immediately. The next morning, I added a gallon of oil, and there were still no signs of oil on the dipstick. At that time, I noticed there was no coolant in the reservoir, but engine oil residue, and a collapsed upper radiator hose. The truck was towed to the dealer later that day. After inspection, the dealer said the oil cooler had failed. They sent me the service bulletin, but that bulletin only says, "oil and coolant mix," nothing about the disappearance of the fluid, and no explanation of the emissions codes. The dealer and gm's corporate office are refusing the share the diagnostic data on how they have concluded that the oil cooler has failed. Their solution is to replace the oil cooler and see what happens. This truck has 1000 miles left on the warranty, and the parts/procedures expire at the end of the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Recap: gm will not share diagnostic data, and they are refusing to extend coverage, yet their remedy is to experiment with my $70,000 truck, and the moment this truck is out of warranty, they are going to wash their hands of it. That is not acceptable.
I was driving my truck and lost full power to the truck. Which happened as I was pulling out of a parking. The truck went into a limp mode. With the truck losing full power, it put my child and I into a safety risk. The truck got repaired at the dealership. The dealer was able to reproduce the issue. The truck was inspected at the dealership. Warning system did come on saying speed would be limited if (roughly 150 miles to a max 65mph). When I called another dealership, they said this was a normal thing for these trucks and chevy hasn't fixed it. I feel like if its a known issue with the wiring becoming free, why would they not proactively fix this issue before someone gets hurts from thinking they have the power to drive. The dealership that I took this too knew where to look right away as this is common.
The motor started running bad and within seconds it stopped no other signs or problems.
See attached document for complaint.
Transmission needed rebuild at 108000 miles. Lifter failure in engine which damaged camshaft at 120000 miles. Each costing thousands in dollars of repairs probably close to $10000.
The def system and turbo system. It will not let me tow nothing. And has started limited my speed to 65mph and says in 55 miles it will restrict to 55mph. I need my truck for work.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while her husband was hauling a trailer and driving 55 mph in the snow, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. In addition, the contact stated the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal before slamming into gear. The rpm fluctuated up to 6,500 rpm. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact's husband was able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was turned off but failed to restart. The contact's husband stepped out of the vehicle, and the vehicle restarted automatically. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring was for a diesel vehicle; however, the contact's vehicle was gasoline operated. The contact was informed that the wiring harness control arm had rubbed against the control arm, causing the electrical system to short-circuit. The vehicle was repaired. The failure had progressively gotten worse. Most recently, the contact stated that the vehicle vibrated abnormally while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that a seal was placed on the transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but denied assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while attempting to remote start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact was able to manually start the vehicle however, the message "service emissions system - speed limited to 65 mph" was displayed. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph, the "check engine” and “speed limit 65 mph" messages were displayed. The contact heard an abnormal sound like air coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated there was thick black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact returned to the residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact had used a handheld scanner and became aware that the reductant heater circuits 1, 2, and 3 had short-circuited. The contact checked and observed that the wiring harness located under the vehicle near the fuel tank and the diesel exhaust fluid (def) tank had melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to technical service bulletin number: n202300791 - service update diesel exhaust fluid system (fuel system, diesel). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.
