2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/16/2020

I received a recall notice #n182206311- safety recall - diesel engine block heater cord. The notice says that I need to get the cord and heater replaced with part number 19419326 as I risk an electrical short damaging engine components or an engine compartment fire. I do not want to risk that. I first received the notice in January, 2020. I was told then that the parts are on back order and that they would call me when they get the part in. No return call. I had another recall notice since and took it in to the chevy dealer today and was reminded of the prior recall notice regarding the block heater. I asked to have it replaced per recall notice. The dealership in henderson, nv can't get the part because gm will not ship it to nevada. I called gm today, 4/16/20, and spoke to mary, and then to her supervisor, bradley. I explained that my wife and I are retired and drive this vehicle in states and areas that are extremely cold, I. E. , we have a cabin at panguitch lake, ut (mountain lake) where winter temps. Get below zero. We go there every month, year round. We go to idaho to visit children where temps approach single digits. I go hunting in nevada and colorado mountains where temps. Get below zero (I use a generator to provide the power to heat the engine block). I need to have this recall problem taken care of for the safety of my truck, myself and family, and others who may be in close proximity to me should a problem flare up while driving. Bradley, a supervisor at gm, is adamant that I will not be able to get a new engine heater cord and heater. I was told it's their policy to only send units/parts to cold weather states. So if I lived in reno, nv where wintertime temps. Are consistently below 20 degrees, I would not get an engine block replacement heater and cord. I paid to have a working engine block heater and cord when I bought the truck.

3 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/26/2018

I was traveling to work in the fast lane of the freeway when I heard a faint squealing noise and the truck suddenly started running rough. I began crossing all 4 lanes and by the time I made it to the the slow lane the truck completely died. I was able to safely coast off of the freeway due to my quick reaction and lack of traffic at the time, but the situation was very dangerous and could have been much more so with heavier traffic or a less aware driver. Later diagnosis at the Chevrolet dealership told me that the cp4 fuel pump disintegrated inside. After speaking with the diesel technician at the dealer I learned that it is a very common problem and the repair comes with a $10,000 price tag. I was also very surprised that there has never been a recall for this problem and gm continued to use them until 2017. . . 7 years! my truck is a 2011 with only 54k miles, and they just fixed a 2017 with only 7k miles! I have since done a lot of research finding hundreds of low mileage gm duramax diesel between 2011-2017 with the exact same failure. I was able to get the bottom of the failure itself and I found the following. . . The bosch cp4 fuel pumps that were used in these trucks (also found in late Ford and vw diesels) are made in europe to different specifications. The pumps rely on lubricant found in diesel #1 to operate smoothly and last a long time. Here in the u. S. We only have diesel #2 which lacks that lubricant and causes the internal parts of the pump to disintegrate sending metal shavings throughout the entire fuel system. This is why the repair averages $10,000 across the country, the entire fuel system becomes contaminated and has to be replaced. I contacted gm and they don't believe this is a safety issue. A vehicle suddenly dieing with seconds notice on the freeway is certainly a safety issue in my eyes. Especially when it's a common failure that can be prevented.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

P140a-exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler bypass position sensor exceeded learning limit there is a special coverage on the egr bypass valve for 10 years or 120,000 miles condition- on some 2011 model year Chevrolet silverado 3500 hd or 2011 GMC sierra hd vehicles, the service engine soon light may illuminate due to an inoperative exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler bypass valve. Special coverage adjustment- this special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Dealers are to replace the egr cooler bypass valve. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. I have the same engine but my truck is a 2500 hd and they will not cover it! there is no difference in a 2500 and 3500 except one leaf spring!.

5 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/13/2015

When temperatures drop below 30 degrees the tire pressure warning light and the low coolant light comes on. Took to dealership and they advised that both warning lights do that below 28 degrees. This has occurred since 2013 winter. Glow plugs going out one at time gm will only replace as they go out up to 120000 not enough being done with this.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

Several problems. . Multiple failures of "glow plugs" (known gm problem) and nox exhaust sensors, high def use, unusual "buildup" in the exhaust filter requiring many dealer visits, downtime, repair costs and extremely poor fuel mileage. Glow plugs often fail at initial start when system is "cold". . Oat has been from about 45 to about 90 degrees fahrenheit. Altitude, about 20 to 1200 ft asl. Dealer serviced only. Vehicle has no mods!!!!.

7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/23/2012

I purchased 2006 silverado new and after the 1st year noticed rusting. Just before it came off warranty (2009) the coolant line from the radiator and the brake rotors (front and rear) had rusted through. Have since replaced the rotors again and now my brake line burst open as I was driving home. Entire undercarriage is rusted (frame is peeling up in layers), there is rust coming through the bumpers, on the wheels, in the bed, inside the driver's door - basically everywhere I look (I filed a complaint with Chevrolet in 2010 about the excessive rusting and was told, after inspection by local dealer, that there was "no abnormal rusting found"). I baby this truck (it only has 26,000 miles and is not driven on the roads when they are salted) and keep it very clean. I am afraid for my safety as I do not know what is going to fail next. Today I spoke with Chevrolet again about the brake lines, again inspected at the local dealer, and was told that it was "normal wear and tear" and caused by environmental conditions. In addition, I was told that the rotors and calipers are rusted through and must be replaced. How is it possible to conclude that the corrosion is due solely to environmental factors and not at all due to material choice and lack of appropriate coating? I am only asking that they cover the replacement of the brake lines and they do not feel obligated to do so. They do not believe it is poor design or subpar materials. (neither of my other two vehicles, 1993 Toyota pickup and 2004 Volvo, show rusting of the undercarriage to the same degree as the silverado and the brake lines of both other vehicles are completely intact. All three vehicles have been subjected to the same environmental conditions. ).

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

: the contact stated the vehicle's tire hubs are sealed units and could not be repacked with grease. The hub assembly was loose which caused the bearings to become defective resulting in wobbling tires. The front hubs had to be replaced twice however the service dealer could not determine why the bearings were becoming defective. Also, there was oil leaking out of the egr vavle. The egr valve was replaced which corrected the problem. Then vehicle was surging and would not accelerate. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer the vehicle's egr valve was replaced again which also corrected the problem. Updated 11/06/06.
