The exhaust manifold bolts are breaking creating a fire hazard from the hot exhaust reaching the wiring harness, it is also creating fumes in my cab. First noted a noise a week ago, found it to be a exhaust leak and the leak has gradually gotten worse. I am unable to not drive to the truck due to work.

Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking despite regular non commercial use and proper maintenance. This causes an exhaust leak and I am not comfortable driving my infant in the truck now. Dealer says 4 how odd labor plus parts so approx $1000 fix? that's unreasonable for any motor but especially under 120000km.

Broken or missing exhaust manifold bolts causing exhaust leaks. Potential for carbon monoxide leaks into the driving compartment. Upon researching on the internet this seems to be a very common and expensive problem. With gm engines from 1999 to around 2007. Just found this problem on my 1999 silverado on 5/20/16. I have owned this truck since day one and have an excellent service record at a well know dealership. Vehicle was stationary when the problem was diagnosed.

Exhaust manifold bolts breaking off. Almost everyone I know is having this problem with the v8 gm engines. Leads to exhaust leaks, sensor failures and bad catalytic converters- thus failing emissions testing. Hard and expensive to fix.

Passenger side exhaust manifold bolts rust and break off on all gm full size trucks. I have 2004 Silverado 2500 hd with 61k miles, problem started at 56k miles as a mild tick that went away when engine warmed up and progressed to constant leak when engine was under load , two rear exhaust manifold bolts broke off causing exhaust leak. Seems all truck engines have this problem from 1999 -2007. This sounds like a manufacturing defect that should be addressed by gm .

Gm mad a faulty bolt design and no one is holding them accountable. I have 3 broken manifold bolts and the dealership wants $2100 to repair. There are thousands upon thousands of others just like me who are helpless. Why are you and the epa doing nothing? the vehicle can't pass emissions like this!.

The exhaust manifold bolts are breaking on the 6. 0 engine. I think gm should do this repair since I have talked to several people and this is very common. It is a design defect as far as I am concerned. I have put up with this as it started as a small leak but is getting worse.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated the bolts on the exhaust manifold were braking off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed the manifold would have to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,500. Sr.
My 2003 chevy 2500 hd has an exhaust manifold leak and this is an ongoing and chronic problem with these vehicles. I can see evidence of hot exhaust gasses leaking into the engine compartment.
5 out of 8 exhaust manifold bolts are broken on the passenger side of vehicle and 2 on drivers side. I have 120k miles on vehicle.
My 13 year old daughter complained of headaches. After narrowing it down we realized it only happened after riding in my 2001 silverado. On investigation found exhaust manifold bolts broken off, exhaust manifold warped and severely leaking exhaust into cab. Manufacturer is no help.

4 of the exhaust manifold bolts are broke. I now smell exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment.
Exhaust manifold bolts broke off for no reason, letting exhaust fums escape under the hood and in the cab of the truck. This seems to be a very common problem on several gm trucks.
The bolts are braking off the exhaust manfolds and the manifolds are leaking and the computer is making the truck go into reduced power.
Engine on passenger side all rusting exhaust manifold bolts rotted and broke off causing an exhaust leak that effects sensors. Brake lines just bellow that rotted and just broke yesterday. Luck ally I was only in my driveway at the time, ironic thing was I just left the shop for my safety inspection, sullivan tire derry nh 03038 should report them as well. This truck has a very severe problem with all parts on the passenger side of the motor rotting my repairs for all rotting parts 2100. 00 these problems are unacceptable and should be fixed by gm . Looking and reading online I am not the only one with these problems. Seems to be happening on most all there 8 cylinder trucks and SUV.
Changed my oil and did a visual inspection on my engine. Come to find I had two exhaust manifold bolts on each side that were broken. This needs to be resolved. I've heard of people having under the hood fires cause of this. This is a safety issue!.
I notice a ticking from the engine compartment over the last couple of days. I assumed it may be an exhaust leak and I was correct. This vehicle has a stainless steel exhaust system that should last a lifetime yet there seems to be a real problem with exhaust manifold bolts breaking off, causing exhaust leaks which pollute the air and ruin other vehicle components such as the catalytic converter. I am also thinking that the manifolds are warping causing the bolts to break. These repairs are very expensive and/or time consuming. Stainless steel bolts would have possibly prevented this problem. I understand that this problem affects 1999 to 2007 vehicles and I hereby request that a recall be forced upon the manufacturer. The manufacturer has been building cars long enough to know better. There is also a video on you - tube that explains this condition.
Vehicle under carriage looks more like a 30 year old vehicle. Brakes lines have failed causing extended stopping distance or swerving off road to avoid collision. Oil cooler lined ruptured and leaked oil on exhaust manifold, a potential fire hazard, especially when all the exhaust manifolds rotted as well so hot exhaust gases are not directed out the exhaust, also a concern for poisoning occupants with toxic exhaust gases . Power steering fittings rotted causing loss of steering. Gm is useless, when I contacted them they said it is the environment. I asked them why a Toyota and Acura, both 8 years older showed no such failures or even signs of rust on critical components. Gm responded that they couldn't answer that question. Hmmm, I wonder why. In 39 years of driving, it is the most I ever paid for a vehicle, 48,000 dollars, and the manufacturer refuses any assistance. That's the thanks for bailing them out. It has also had wires to blower motor burn, rear brake rotors rotted away at 22,000 miles, ground wires under hood have rotted and fallen of. . . More potential hazards, a/c compressor seized a came apart. I could go on and on. There needs to be a serious investigation into gm and. The poor quality and lack of concern for the safety of the public. It is by far the worst vehicle I have owned, ever.
Took vehicle in for service and was told that a exhaust manifold bolt was broken. Vehicle warranty had just expired and repair would be about 900. 00. I researched this issue online and found that several other people have had this same issue with their gm product. This should be investigated as a possible recall. This being an emissions issue will cause my vehicle to fail the emissions test and could possibly cause exhaust in the passenger compartment.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that after started vehicle, there was a noise that came from the exhaust system. The vehicle was not taken to dealer or repair shop for inspection or repair. The contact stated that was able to see 4 of the 6 bolts, on the exhaust manifold, were missing the heads on the bolts. The bolts were corroded and broke off. The manufacturer was no made aware of the failure; the contact notified dealer. The failure mileage was 82,700. The failure mileage was 83,000. Yn.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 35 mph, a loud noise emitted from the engine compartment with the illumination of the engine warning indicator on the instrument panel. A certified mechanic stated that the failure was contributed to the the exhaust manifold. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000. Js.
Stopped do to heavy traffic and started smelling exhaust in cab. Pulled off on next exist opened hood and drivers side of engine was smoking. Coughing and lung discomfort. Found some shade to let truck cool. Noticed black color on rear of exhaust manifold, looked closer and missing bolt in same area of manifold. Looking online lots of complaints of same problem but no recalls. Should be emissions recall and safety recall in my case.

4 bolts on the exhaust manifold sheared ( broken).
Exhaust manifold bolts broken on 6. 0 liter engine, 2 on passenger side, 1 on driver side, causing exhaust leaks and service engine light. Possible fire hazard as exhaust gases entering underhood environment, and definite emission problems as O2 sensors incorrectly sensing diluted exhaust after leak in system, possible fuel mileage affected. .
This truck is equipped with the 6. 0l vortec v8 engine and has developed an exhaust leak on both sides of the engine at the manifold gaskets! the leak is from the ports where the bolts securing manifold to cylinder head are broken! gm is well aware of this issue, does not want to recall the issue or warranty the repairs. There are thousands of complaints from owners of gm vehicles with v8 engines including the 4. 8l, 5. 3l, 6. 0l engines. This is a problem in many of ways, most importantly that toxic exhaust fumes are emitting from under the hood and can enter the cab of the vehicles! inspection laws require that exhaust fumes exit the vehicle behind the rear wheel! the other problems include the fact that this leak will affect readings taken from the upstream oxygen sensors and can therefore cause check engine lights for catalytic converter deficiencies to system lean conditions. Also having an exhaust leak will fail safety inspections and emissions testing. Gm is violating epa laws by allowing this to go on! this particular vehicle is past due for inspection and emissions as we are a pennsylvania resident and I cannot afford to have this fixed at a dealer!.
My 2003 silverado pickup truck has been found to have a common and recurrent problem. Exhaust manifold bolts break, and on the driver side rear, they can be expensive to repair. A few minutes of web searching on this topic produced a number of results and my conclusion is the issue is common. The online complaints also indicate that the success rate for the repair is not good, with many repaired vehicles having subsequent bolt failures. My vehicle is in an authorized chevy service garage having the bolts replaced. The original estimate was for $486, if cylinder head did not need to be removed. The service technician broke a tap off in the rear most bolt location. I don't know if it happened before head removal or after. It became necessary to remove the cylinder head and was requoted at $1600. A call was made to gm 3-6-12. The response was that my truck was out of warranty and there fore they could be of no assistance in the matter. I am certainly aware of the warranty terms. My issue is with the scale of this engineering/manufacturing defect and the cost to the owners. The issue can cause emissions problems due to catalytic converter failure and further expense.
Found 4 out of 12 exhaust manifold mounting bolts broken.
Two exhaust manifold bolts on a 2002 chevy Silverado 2500 hd rotted and sheered off and one other does not seem to be as rusted and just broke off at the head of the bolt. This bolt failure could cause many issues, one being, possible fire in the engine compartment, or catalytic failure, O2 sensor issues, check engine light staying on.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while driving various speeds he could hear a ticking sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that three of the exhaust manifold bolts were fractured, causing a leak that needed to be replaced . The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 73,000 and current mileage was 77,000.
On Dec. 23, 2011, I took my silverado into joe firment for an exhaust leak (which is an emissions problem), so I wanted it fixed immediately. They found nothing. On may 22, 2012 I took my silverado back to joe firment for the 3rd time for this same issue - exhaust leak. At that time they had found one broken bolt on the exhaust manifold (actually there were two broken bolts that I found personally upon further inspection). My warranty covered the manifold but had just expired on may 7, 2012. I asked that they honor my warranty since the problem has been there since 2011, but they failed to diagnose it. Joe firment refused to honor my warranty. I researched this issue online and found that several other people have had this same issue with their gm product. This should be investigated as a possible class action suit. How many similar complaints are on record? this being an emissions issue will cause my vehicle to fail the emissions test required to renew my license plates. This needs to be corrected and should be covered under my original warranty since the problem began within the warranty period. The dealership should have diagnosed it on the first appointment for this issue.
Bolt head is snapped off on the left exhaust manifold on the rear most bolt. I know of many others who have this same problem and I believe that their should be a recall on the defective bolts used in these vehicles.
Left rear and right rear exhaust manifold bolts have broken off causing an exhaust leak. Causing potential vehicle emissions problems as well as the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning from exhaust gases getting into the cab of the truck.
