I have several dtc codes u029d u029e p0420 p220b on three occasions. These code are triggering a limited speed and possible power reduction. The dealer ship states that GMC protocol is to replace one sensor at a time and let the customer go so they can breakdown again. The part that is failing I am told is the diesel particulate filter, but GMC can not supply the dealerships with the high demand. This seems like a faulty design that may work during the warranty period, but shorty fails after. I did report exhaust smell in the truck while driving . I was given a report and a large repair bill only to breakdown in 126 miles.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet silverado k2500hd. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of approximately 35 mph or higher, they would notice that the vehicle would begin to emit sparks from the rear end. The failure occurred on three occasions. The contact was concerned that the failure could result into a fire. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer (colonial Chevrolet located at 12420 jefferson davis hwy, chester, va 23831; phone number 804-748-646) who were unable to identify the cause of the failure. The failure continued to occur. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who then spoke with gm and was advised to place the vehicle into region mode and if they did not notice the sparks than they were able to return the vehicle to the owner. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact had not contacted the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 5,235.

I bought my 2014 chevy k2500 durmax diesel 4x4 I bought it under the impression I was told it would get really good gas mileage and its horrible the salesman said the new requirements that gm done to the exhaust and fuel the gov. Required was to help on pollution and fuel mileage. This should be looked into the fuel economy is horrible.
This vehicle failed state safety inspection due to corroded brake lines and leaking exhaust around head gasket.

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. It has a broken exhaust manifold bolt. After researching this problem on the internet, I found there are approximately 12,000,000 gm vehicles with this problem. Why hasn't the NHTSA issued a recall on these vehicles? it seems to me that the epa would have done something about as the broken bolt is allowing exhaust into the air without going through the converter. I don't know at what mileage the bolt broke or at what speed I was going when it happened.

I have a 2004 chev silverado 4x4 hd 2500 with 6. 1 v-8 engine. On passengers side of engine, rear two bolts are broken attaching exhaust manifold to cylinder head, causing exhaust leak. One bolt is broken off flush with cylinder head making it impossible to repair in the vehicle, the second bolt has just the head broken off however factory thread lock makes it impossible to remove in the vehicle. Niether bolt can be removed while engine is in the vehicle. Engine has only 66000 miles on it and this bolt failure makes using this vehicle very unsatisfactory. Gm should step up to the plate and fix these defects for all of the chevy truck owners with exhaust bolt problems like this and there are many. I want this defect passed along to as many databases as possible. This is a very common problem with these gm vehicles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that he smelled an odor coming into the vehicle and heard a loud noise from the engine. The vehicle was taken and inspected by a dealer and they advised him that the manifold bolts had fractured. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000. Tb.

Exhaust manifold bolts on 2002 Chevrolet 2500 hd 6. 0 l v8 are broken at the back bolt on the drivers side. The passanger side exhaust manifold is cracked between the 3rd and 4th bolt from the front. I replaced the bolts on the driver side, except for the back one that is sheared off flush with the cylinder head. The only way to get this particular bolt out is to remove the cylinder head from the engine so that a machine shop can drill out the offending bolt. The replacement bolts that I purchased from the gm dealer were a much sturdier bolt that had a much larger head on the bolt. To me this indicates knowledge that there is a problem and that gm is aware of it. This will most certainly lead to an exhaust leak that will cause the check engine light to come on. A vehicle with the check engine light on cannot pass a field emissions test and will result in a revocation of the vehicles registration until the problem is corrected. This is now a serious problem that is very expensive to repair. Gm should be held accountable for the possible epa violations that this well documented issue is now causing. This vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it, very low for a 2002.

For the second time --last time about 3 years ago --the dealer tells me that the rear exhust manifold bolts have sheared off . I hear from other mechanics and the internet that this happens all the time on silverados . It is very expensive to repair .
2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd w/ 8. 1l engine. With 59,000 miles. I noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine compartment. I took into a dealership for some other service and had them check this noise also. It urned out to be a warped right side exhaust manifold. I also know people that have this same engine in there motorhomes that have had the same problem.
The exhaust manifold bolts are broken on my 2004 Chevrolet 2500 hd truck. They are also broken on my sons 2004 GMC 2500 hd and my brothers 2005 GMC 2500hd. Something is wrong with that and something should be done before they catch fire.
Recently I developed an exhaust leak near the front of the exhaust system near the engine. Upon inspection I found the back manifold bolt had been broken off on the drivers side (I may also have a broken bolt on the passenger side as well). I took the vehicle to my locally respected mechanic with the intention of having the broken bolt removed and a new one installed. I was notifed that this was a common problem with these gm vehicles (2004 Silverado 2500hd). I was further informed that there was no way the repair would be simple due to the fact there was no practical manner in which to extract/drill out the broken bolt for replacement. I was told the head would need to be removed in order to effect the required repair which would cost somewhere between $700-$1000. This repair is not cost effective to me for what is probably a $3. 00 bolt. Researching this issue on the internet I found out it is in fact a problem with these vehicles dating back to 1999. Why has gm not been required to repair this item at no cost to the owner if it is this widespread.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet silverado with a 6. 0 liter engine. The left side and right side exhaust manifold are missing 2 bolts each. I only have 50,000 miles on this vehicle. The cost is unbelievable. This is certainly a matter that gm should take care of.

Broken exhaust manifold bolts.
Exhaust manifold bolt head broke off. 1st bolt initially then second bolt next to it broke as well. No work has been done to motor or aftermarket parts added that would affect this part and create failure. Exhaust gas enters the underhood area sometime can be smelled inside cab. The exhaust makes a black plume up side of motor.

I have a 2003 chevy 2500 silverado with the 6 liter v8. 2 years ago I noticed a ticking sound from the engine compartment. After looking closer I found a broken exhaust manifold bolt on the right side. At that time the vehicle had about 130,000 miles on it. A couple months later while changing oil I found another broken bolt on the right side. This year while changing plugs I found another broken bolt on the left side. I was looking on the internet to get some tips on fixing the problem when I came across a utube video by carquestions and found out this is not just bad luck on my part it is a very wide spread problem and an obvious manufacturing defect by gm. This is not an easy fix and to get it done is more than I can afford. My check engine light is on constantly now because of the problem it has created with the emission control system. This was not the result of any actions of mine. I have done the maintenance to maintain this vehicle. Gm needs to be responsible for fixing this problem.
Broken exhaust bolts on my 2002 chevy 2500 hd truck, I went to the local garage and they told me they had worked on 6 other trucks with the same problem. There was a gm sales men there and said they have been having alot of trouble with the bolts breaking on the 6. 0 motors.
Three exhaust manifold bolts head snapped off, resulting in dangerous exhaust being expelled under the hood.
Exhaust manifold bolt heads broke off on my 2000 chevy Silverado 2500 truck 6. 0.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving 65 mph, the cab filled with exhaust fumes. The dealer acknowledged the failure; however, they were unable to determine the cause. The manufacturer stated that the failure was a characteristic of the vehicle. The dealer disagreed with the manufacturer. The contact installed a carbon monoxide detector inside the vehicle during the failure and it registered 970 ppm. As of November 15, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 900 and current mileage was 7,000. Updated 01-11-08. Updated 12/12/07.
1999 and up chevy GMC silverado with the 6. 0 liter engine are having problems with the exhaust manifold bolts rusting off. This creates and exhaust leak that is bad for air pollution not to mention with gas in the area a fire hazard. This problem need a recall and many have the problem and don't know it and the ones that do fix it pay a lot of labor cost this is a fairly labor intense job.
