Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 362 problems related to carrier/rack (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
We received an important safety recall to replace the airbag inflator (NHTSA recall number 21v051). After taking our vehicle to the dealer, we were told that if we want the recall then we have to pay to replace our dashboard (over $1,000). The dashboard has a crack which is a common and well-known defect of gm Chevrolet trucks from 07-14, but it is not part of the airbag recall. And now, gm hides behind a so-called "cosmetic" issue in our dashboard to avoid compliance with the recall. Gm is not acting in good faith to remedy the defective airbag in our vehicle. We feel very unnerved to drive a vehicle with a bad airbag that gm refuses to fix without great expense. Others are likely facing the same issue for this recall.

Transmission failure< 150,000 miles!! well maintained. Left us stranded on off ramp I-78. !!! cracked dash electrical problem. Check engine light.
We noticed a crack on the dashboard that appears to move between the passenger airbag and the center dash vent on July 11th, 2020. There was a substantial amount of noise "ratlling" from the dash board. On July 18th we noticed that the spa e on the dash under the vent was hanging even lower and more noise. On 7/27/20 we realized the crack continues to spread and the dash is sunk in more. We arw concerned the air bag will not deploy if needed or that further cosmetic injury will happen to the dash. The car was initially stationary outside our home. Each instance the crack is visible as well as the increased space under the vent. The problem became more evident as we drove off each time. We take city streets and highway when driving. This vehicle has never been in an accident. We have owned several makes and models of different vehicles and have no idea why this is happening. We do know we have six children and this is our family car that we no longer feel safe driving.
The dashboard has cracked in numerous places.

The dash is cracked on the both windshield-edge corners of the passenger-side airbag cover and broken over the driver-side instrument cluster. The driver-side breakage has spread from the windshield inside edge to up and over the instrument cluster. It has been glued and patched but has continued to disintegrate and is now completely broken. This vehicle has been driven on road and highway. The dash has been cracking and breaking over a period of 5 years.
Top of the dash has severe cracks over instrument cluster and around the passenger side air bag. Cracking is continuously getting worse.

Severe dash cracking around airbags. If repaired, I'm afraid that airbag may deploy. Cracks are getting worse.
Common dash crack in these Suburbans. Very dangerous if airbag is deployed.

Several crackes have appeared in the top section of dashboard.
Dashboard cracking - started right by the passenger airbag on the dash. Concerned about impact on airbag deployment.
Dashnoard is cracking for no reason at all . They all have this issue . Poorly made . In a airbag deployment it can shatter and you will have shards of plastic flying everywhere. The issue happens over time . Some sooner then others.

Dash is cracked in two places also inside handle is made of plastic and it is broken. Vehicle was stationary.
Cracked dashboard.
Dashboard started cracking.
Airbag recall, no remedy available; dashboard crack.
Cracked dashboard. Afraid if in accident shrapnel from cracked dash will go flying especially if airbags are deployed.
The dash has cracks around the air bags on the left and right sides.
I have a 2013 Suburban with the common cracked dash issues. Mine has a major crack neat the passenger airbag, middle speaker and over the instrument panel. It came this way when I bought in on 8/29/2019 but I consider it a potential hazard if the airbag were to deploy.
Went to buy a new Suburban, found a good used one without the cracked dash. Well within 2 months we now have a crack in our dash. Were told this is a common problem and was told $1500 to fix this issue. I find it unacceptable that chevy would not take care of such a major issue with their vehicles. How are there tons of other brand vehicles without this issue? always have a sunshade on the vehicle and was it once a week. I now want to trade this for something that doesn't have such a problem. Crack looks like it could interfere with the airbag operation. Or send shards of plastic when airbag is deployed. It happened parked in our garage over night.
Dashboard has cracked in two places. It is an expensive repair that chevy will not stand behind. In the event of airbag deployment small pieces of plastic could fly and injure occupants.
Dashboard cracked in multiple places. Cracking up to the edge of the airbag. If airbag is deployed the shrapnel from the dashboard could cause airbag to deflate rendering it useless and cause injury.

Dash has multiple cracks, not sure the date when it happened, I used today's date, I just bought the vehicle, it looks like they tried to repair it. There is no support under the dash. Husband had a 2006 GMC sierra c2500 truck VIN # 1gthk23dx6f261245 and his cracked also, we do not own it anymore.
The dashboard has several cracks and continues to crack further. These cracks just started to appear without incident. They cause the dash to rattle. They are also a cosmetic issue that will depreciate the value of the Suburban.
The dash is cracked in many places for no reason and some of the pieces are sharp.
Cracking dashboard needs replacement, I have replaced our cracking dashboard and would like to receive some type of compensation for my expense. This is an issue that is ongoing with all of these types of vehicles.
Dash cracked and totally inploded. Loose parts everywhere. These parts fly everywhere when moving vehicle. Airbag loose and probally could implode without wrecking accident. Definately a hugh safety factor. Maybe nahta would like to drive my vehicle with couple top execs from gm over country roads and Dodge loose scraphnel. 05/07/2019.
I have a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban and there is a large crack across the passenger side of the dash. I am not sure what caused it. Upon reading emails on this and other websites, it appears that I am not alone with the problem.

While driving on the highway I hear a pop and notice a piece missing out of my dash above the airbag and then begin to notice the crack in the dashboard run across the dash to the drivers side. I have noticed other complaints about gm dashboard and believe this is a safety hazard due to the crack being at the airbag and running all the way across the dashboard. If the airbag deployed it could send half of the dashboard into the front seats of the vehicle.
Cracked dash above steering wheel. Resulted from temperature changes I noticed it because it was making a sound when I was driving.
Dash has continued to crack - over 4 cracks that has affected the defrost vent, dash and now I receive periodic airbag warnings upon starting ignition and/or parking. I am concerned as a driver, mother of 3 and caregiver of elderly mom that the air bags will deploy at anytime and/or not function correctly upon a crash or collision.
My 2013 Chevrolet Suburban has cracks in the dashboard in the same spots as many other people I have talked to, not only does this diminish the value of our vehicles the cracks around the passenger side air bag seem like it could be a danger if the air bag were to deploy possibly causing plastic shrapnel to be ejected with extreme force injuring or possibly killing someone especially considering the airbags are already under a recall for their issues they (the dash ) should be recalled.
My entire dashboard is cracking and its into pieces. . . . I do not park in the sun.
"takata recall" the dashboard has cracked in several places and over the course of a few months, has completely broken over the instrument cluster. This is a safety hazard as I am afraid other pieces will fly out in the event of an accident. My family and I have been faithful customers of gm since the 50's but I am strongly considering another brand since gm does not honor or offer to fix repeated problems by its owners.
The dashboard on my vehicle is cracking in two different places. One area is right in front of the drivers seat and the other is in front of the passengers seat where the front airbag is located. I just noticed this problem on November 18, 2018.
