Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 9 problems related to owners/service manual (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I currently own a 2016 Suburban. I have a concern with how Chevrolet has went to electric safety locks for the rear doors. One button on the driver's door safety locks both rear doors instead of each door having a manual lock in the door sill. My children are older and can get out the vehicles when safe however I have a 20 year old autistic son who knows how to open the door and as soon as we stop he tries opening the door. I have to time it just right to let the kids out of one door before he can open his. Also some times I forget to safety lock the back doors because he's not always with me. This has become a real safety issue with him. He'll get out of truck before I'm out so I can't prevent him from running away or into oncoming traffic. I assume other people with multi age or ability passengers have the same issue. I am also afraid that new buyers with children or special needs passengers may not realize this "feature" and should know about it prior to making a vehicle purchase. I do not know if other manufacturers are doing the same thing. Regards,.

When I bought the Suburban it was daylight. . . Everything checked out fine. Then the next morning I went to back out of my driveway in the dark and almost hit a car. The backup camera screen is so bright you cannot see anything except very bright light in your eyes. That first few mornings I thought well I'll read thru the manual about how to adjust the brightness. I have now looked thru the book several times and we have established . . . There is no adjustment offered. . This is a definite hazard and now I see from a search on the internet. . We are not the only ones with this problem. My 2014 Suburban did not have this issue. . . So they must have changed something, the adjustment. . Brand of camera, something. This needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt. . If a person in dark clothes walked behind me I could not see them because of the brightness. Someone is going to get hurt if they don't fix this.

Rear hatch that is enabled by foot sensor is activated when not intended to and the rear hatch can close on occupant if not pushed by manually. Asked dealership to disable feature and they said they are unable to. The rear hatch closes spontaneosly when a motion is detected near rear hatch and not just as intended to if quick in/out motion of foot beneath rear car hatch is detected. Very dangerous if children are near when open and they don't know how to push hatch back to prevent from closing. I have repeatedly reported to chevy and they say there is nothing they can do.

This is a design and a manufacturing defect. It's a manufacturing defect because the doors are failing in large numbers and it's a design defect because the doors can't be unlocked manually when the power locks fail. The dealer said the door actuators and latch assemblies must be replaced. What happens is rivets on the lock assembly are coming loose and when the window is half way down it hits the rivets causing the lock to jam and the door can not be opened. In a panic situation, collision or car fire the passengers not knowing why they can not open the door would have to climb over the seats to get out which may not be possible if there is a front end collision or fire.

The rear liftgate will not unlock. There is no manual release or "key bypass" for the rear liftgate lock. This presents a serious safety issue in case of fire or crash.

Vehicle driver side back door would not unlock using remote control. Cost over $300. 00 to have Chevrolet dealer fix. Now in Feb 2014 with 7600 miles it started not working on the passenger side back door stop working with remote control. All other locks would open but not the rear door at that time. It appears their are issues with these door locks. The door locks will only open manually when they fail which is a pain due to the size of the vehicle.

2004 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer states unsatisfactory transaction
the consumer stated he was unable to lower the spare tire on his vehicle. The tire was stored under the rear of the vehicle on a cable lowering mechanism. The tire would lower only four inches because of a secondary latch system. The system was supposed to be able to be released according to the owners manual. The consumer spent hours over a three day period of time, trying to get the tire lowered to the ground. He took the vehicle to the dealer to have them release it. The mechanic could not lower it either. They removed the entire mechanism and the tire and at the consumers request they put it in the cargo area. The consumer stated his concern was that the system was improperly designed. It was susceptible to rust after a short period of time which could allow it to malfunction.
