1 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

We received an important safety recall to replace the airbag inflator (NHTSA recall number 21v051). After taking our vehicle to the dealer, we were told that if we want the recall then we have to pay to replace our dashboard (over $1,000). The dashboard has a crack which is a common and well-known defect of gm Chevrolet trucks from 07-14, but it is not part of the airbag recall. And now, gm hides behind a so-called "cosmetic" issue in our dashboard to avoid compliance with the recall. Gm is not acting in good faith to remedy the defective airbag in our vehicle. We feel very unnerved to drive a vehicle with a bad airbag that gm refuses to fix without great expense. Others are likely facing the same issue for this recall.

2 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/19/2018

Takata recall - I object to gm filing a petition for inconsequentiality. Gm's own website states"the propellant in some types of takata airbag inflators can degrade over time, especially after long term exposure in hot and humid regions. If the propellant degrades to a certain level, the inflators may rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries. " as the vehicle has been located in southeast florida since I purchased it new, it has been subject to both heat and humidity nearly continually since original purchase. Gm and takata should not be able to avoid the responsibility to restore my vehicle to a safe condition.

3 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/12/2018

Takata recall: I have been in contact with gm about the recall since 10/20/16 and nothing has been done about replacing the inflators until now. Gm keeps telling me they are trying to select a vendor to do the work but have not yet and that they consider the airbags safe for driving. When is this going to be resolved?.

4 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/27/2018

"takata recall" once again I have attempted to schedule service to have the airbag inflators repaired or replaced as instructed by the recall notice. I have now been told that Chevrolet has no remedy available for the recall and are currently waiting for analysis by the NHTSA of Chevrolets independent testing which indicates the recall is not necessary. Chevrolet states the vehicle is safe to operate. I guess the proof will be seen if the airbag deploys in an accident.

5 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/12/2018

I believe my passenger side air bag may have done something because the dash next to the air bag area has been cracked. Dealer says there is no fix; but every other car company has found the fix; replace the inflator. This dash crack happened over night while parked in my garage.

6 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/16/2017

Takata inflators - received notification by mail from tk holdings, inc. That the recall is still outstanding and that I should notify manufacture to receive repairs. Call service representative at koons GMC/Chevrolet and he informed me that the recall is still pending within gm and that nothing can be done at this time. Seems that the owners of these vehicles are being jerked around at the expense of the airbag inflator and the car or truck manufacture. Meanwhile, our lives could be at stake if we get into an accident and the airbags are inflated. Sorry state of affairs to us, the owners of these vehicles. This incident didn't happen yet, but I just wanted to state it before I get into and accident and I can't create this incident report after the fact because I'm died!.

7 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/05/2017

The dashboard is severely cracked in multiple spots. I fear if involved in an accident my airbags would be compromised. Not to mention one crack is on the passenger airbag which is recalled due to the takata inflators recall that seems to never be resolved. I am aware of many GMC/Chevrolet owners that have this issue.

8 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/02/2017

Takata recall- I contacted the closest dealership to my house and they informed me that Chevrolet has not provided the replacement airbag inflator to the dealerships to fix the issue even though this recall is dated may 27, 2016, a year and a half later they haven't provided the parts to the dealerships to fix this problem. There has been no incidents or injuries yet, but I am concerned for my family that rides in the vehicle with a defective airbag inflator.

9 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/19/2017

Contacted dealer in 2016 about takata recall. Told me the parts were not available. Contacted dealer in oct 2017 again, told the parts were still not available. I believe the general motors has had sufficient time to acquire replacement air bag inflator and that they are deliberately stalling hoping the problem will simple go away. I need my truck fixed so that my wife can ride with me on trips.

10 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/25/2017

I own a vehicle with takata airbag inflators. They have been under recall since 2017 and the recall has not been taken care of because takata has filed bankruptcy and gm does not have a solution or remedy apparently for the recall!!! I need my vehicle recall to be fixed immediately! who's to know if my airbag inflators are compromised and I am angry that gm will not step up and find a solution and pay for the recall!! my safety and that of my family is at risk!! why hasnt this recall on airbag inflators been remedied?? its been 3 years! it's ridiculous and I am angry that gm does not value the safety of it's customers by ensuring swift action on recalls!.

11 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

Takata inflators . . . Still no repair info. Also, as noted in many other complaints, my passenger side airbag/dash cover has a huge crack all the way across. Needs to be fixed. Also - we have electrical issue after electrical issue. When will they address these issues?.

12 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/12/2016

Was advised of recall on defective air bag inflator and when I called they said that since no one had been killed in a Chevrolet Suburban, that my car was safe to drive. When I noted that the other vehicles in which folks were injured or died were deamed safe to drive until they killed someone, the simply repeated the statement that my vehicle was safe to drive.

13 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/03/2016

Takata inflators. I have a recall notice. I have repeatedly contacted the local Chevrolet dealer park Chevrolet kernersville nc 336-310-0876 as to the status. They will not give me a answer as to when repair parts will be available. Going on 2 years since the recall.

14 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

This is a florida vehicle where heat and humidity (the major factors identified with failures of these airbags/inflators) can cause my Suburban to be a high risk to me and my family. We submitted for this recall in 2016 and have yet to be contacted on status or estimated time for the parts/procedures to be ready to complete this repair. As gm disagrees with this recall, they appear to be stalling in hopes that the vehicles will just be retired before they have to repair them. We shouldn't have to wait until people die for the NHTSA to force the hand on gm to implement this recall.

15 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

"takata inflators" and dashboard cracks. I have multiple cracks in the dashboard of my 2008 Chevrolet Suburban which gm is fully aware of, and avoids the topic with every call placed with the Chevrolet customer assistance center. Now there is the potential for the airbag inflators to rupture along with fragmented dashboard parts in the event of a crash. The primary crack(s) are located right at the passenger airbag location. I cannot emphasize enough about the safety concerns I have and the lack of attention that gm has given regarding the cracks and now the airbags.

16 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/08/2016

Takata recall: in July of 2016 I received a letter from Chevrolet inciating that my vehicle has a defective passenger airbag inflator. I took it to a dealer, hall Chevrolet in chesapeake, and they told me they did not have the parts but woluld call me whe the parts arrived. I called several additional times and was told the parts had not arrived, more than a year later I have heard nothing. The gm recall is 49152. My VIN 3gnfc16078g271781. What can I do? is my car safe to drive? if takata goes bankrupt, what can I do then? is Chevrolet still liable?.

18 Front Driver Side Air Bag Inflator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Important safety recall notice submitted to notify me of the important recall for my vehicle. General motors has been unable to solve the problem, nor replace or fix the issue. (id# 16v381). My other vehicle, of a different manufacturer, was quickly corrected and made safe. It is completely unacceptable for gm to leave this issue for so long unresolved. Notice was mailed July 2016, it is now November 2019. More than 3 years for a repair of propellant that may degrade causing the inflators to "rupture during deployment, causing serious or fatal injuries. " this is unacceptable. Three years is unacceptable for gm to delay.

Takata recall about 2 years ago, I received a card informing me about the air bag inflators being defective. I called the dealer that I bought the vehicle from and they transferred me to parts department. Upon stating they had not received the replacement parts, they advised to call back later. This has been going on for 2 hears but they state the parts have not come in. I do not feel comfortable driving myself or putting my family for trips in the Suburban without replacing the air bags.

Takata recall, just like everyone else, gm is not able or willing to replace the takata inflators which brings me to the cracked dashboards. Mine is badly cracked including where the airbag would come out, which really worries me if my grandkids are in the passenger seat and there is a collision. I pray that does not happen.

Failure Date: 01/13/2005

Driving from work-snowy/icy conditions. Smelled a strange odor in vehicle going from I-270s to I-370w ~ 1/4 mile from ramp. Traffic moderate. Traveling 45 mph I tapped brakes, they went all way to floor. Turned off electrical equipment. Used engine braking selecting 3-2-1 to slow vehicle. Vehicle slowed, applied emergency brake - drove to brake down lane. Vehicle stopped-white smoke coming around edges of hood. Lower portion of windshield had couple of heat discoloration marks about 1/4 size of a penny in the middle lower portion. Air bag light came on. Dash did not feel hot, nor the instrument panel - no smoke inside vehicle. Hood would not open by hood release. Power windows worked. Egressed vehicle and driver sdie air bag inflated. Called 911 awaited fire/polcie dept. Opened driver's and passenger doors. Flames coming from steering column where it enters fire wall. Flames underneath vehicle from engine near skid plate/transfer case. Used small fire extinguisher on flames in cabin and under vehicle to no avail. Front driver's side from center console to driver's side door melted away at about 45 deg angle from top to bottom of console. Inside engine the thydraulic drive unit and barke master cyclinder had melted. Significant burn damage from fire in engine. Vehicle-total loss. Very fortunate to recognize bad smell, id brake malfunction, use engine braking to control vehicle; use emergency braking to stop - moderate traffic. Minimized potential hazard to single vehicle-no injuries or fatalities.
