2 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/21/2018

While driving my vehicle with my children inside I happen to experience probably the worst experience while driving. I got a error message on my screen "power steering drive with care" at 50 mph. I almost caused an accident with this. This is a huge safety concern. Problem started at 37,500 miles. I have been reading complaints and recalls and they all state 2015s and below with this problem. This issue is across all vehicles in the chevy lineup. Found a video on youtube to see if it were a simple fix and it did "fix" temporarily". Problem came back even worse. Took vehicle to dealer and I am out of warranty and they want $2500 for the part (elec. Power steering pump & installation). There are no error codes dtc showing when plugged to obd port. Looking for a resolution from the manufacturer as this is a huge concern and for my family.

Bring it back to see if the mechanic will work on it since it hasn't been 30 days. Please notify me of anything do to the transfer case.

7 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/09/2005

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, 1500 lt, 4wd. The Suburban was serviced routinely at the dealer and had 69,000 miles. The shaft in the power steering pump broke causing complete and total loss of steering control. Fortunately this happened off of the main roadway and at low speed, but caused a complete loss of steering ability. If this had happened on the highway at high speed, the events could have been fatal.

9 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/29/2005

In late June 2005, my wife was driving our 2000 Suburban. During a turning maneuver her power steering went out. The dealer doing the repair said a power steering rod had broken, and it cost just under $800 to repair. Later, I saw NHTSA recall id 05v005000, which reports broken shafts in power steering pumps on some Suburban models. I called the dealer and was told my vehicle was not involved in the recall, but the similarity seems too strong to understand why this would be the case. My VIN is 3gnfk16t1yg173424.

10 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/30/2005

On April 30,2005 while operating the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban the power steering pump pully shaft failed. The steering assist was immediatly stopped. The vehicle was shut off before the shaft left the housing which could result in the pulley coming off and causing severe damage, including but not limited too, front brake line severing and loss of front braking. Gm notice 05v00500 is suspiciously simular in nature, but gm is accepting no responsibility at this time. File #1-332-115018 to gm is under review. The potentially hazardous nature of the failure has prompted me to contact the NHTSA.

Power steering pump flow control valve actuator or power steering gear valve imbalance causing tire wear and unnecessary alignments. Excessive tire wear in only 2 months since brand new. Vehicle was pulling to the right at all speeds. Two separate alignments and numerous tire rotations (costs to customer) failed to correct. Unique symptom is steering wheel turns to one side when engine is started (pump active) and steering wheel moved easily to one side and high steering effort to other side. Other symptom whine from steering pressure hoses (cavitation). Steering bleed of air did not fix. . Read more...

13 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/14/2005

2000 Suburban 2500 VIN# 3gngk26uxyg172078 - loss of steering and brakes at speed. My 73 year old father was driving my 4 year old daughter to school and was rounding a corner when the steering wheel became nearly impossible to turn and the brakes barely able to stop. He went straight midway through the turn and applied the brakes as hard as he could. Luckily, no cars were approaching and he eventually stopped. I had the Suburban towed to the dealer and was informed that a recall was in progress for my vehicle and the parts and labor would be replaced for free. I would have to put the repair on my visa and then be reimbursed. I called gm and they said they would send the reimbursement forms. They then called on March 17th and said that my vehicle was just outside the VIN recall range but was in the same year and I would not be reimbursed. My concern is that the parts that were recalled were in my vehicle but gm claims that my vehicle is not affected. Here is the recall description from gm - "the hydraulic pump driveshaft can fracture in the 98,221 vehicles mentioned, which causes immediate loss of power steering assist and can result in loss of braking assist". The repair was over $600 but more importantly, many of the vehicles with the bad parts (like mine) will not be recalled and someone could easily be killed ( a pedestrian, a head on crash, etc). We're talking about catastrophic steering and brake failure at the same time! normally, I'm not too caring about this stuff and I regard it as someone elses problem but I don't want this blood on my hands if I don't do something about it.
