37 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/07/2021

At low speeds while steering, the steering wheel locks up for 1 or 2 seconds causing the vehicle to drive in an unintended direction. This is sometimes accompanied by the electrical system rebooting, and sometimes, there is no warnings at all. It has happened to us 4 times in the last six months. The dealer has had the car twice and is unable to reproduce or diagnose. In addition, sometimes the car has rebooted while driving 60 mph on highways. When this happens, it has engaged cruise control at least three times. I don't view this as unsafe as the steering description given above.

38 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Front passenger spindle / thimble that connects the lower ball joint sheared off. Suburban drops to ground, bolt end of lower ball joint hits and breaks through back of wheel that results in a deflated tier. Repair items listed by chevy service center. Replace right lower ball joint alignment replace right front steering knuckle replace right front wheel, monitor and stem, reprogram replace broken front spoiler replace rf fender liner with the low speed of travel , about 8mph there were no safety issues. Vehicle and broken steering knuckle has been inspected by service agent and manager at fred bean chevy, doylestown, pm. Their position is normal wear, "we must have had impact at some time to cause initial fracture". Extended warranty agrees with view stated from fred bean. Our insurance company is sending an agent to inspect. No warning lamps, messages, etc presented in driver display.

40 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/23/2021

Over 600 miles from home. Started vehicle and " service power steering- drive with care" message shows. No power steering. Recall performed previously. Attempted to drive. Within 15 miles power steering came back while traveling 55 mph. The next morning in the rain a repeat. This is a very heavy vehicle with 6 passengers. Hard enough to maneuver with power steering on bag roads. Gm knows there is a problem but like most big companies, they pay off people to avoid fixing issues. Search online and see.

42 Steering problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/12/2021

While turning at driving speed I feel as if I loose control of the steering for a split second. The front wheels feel like they begin to turn without me turning the steering wheel. This has happened at least a dozen times in the 6000 miles I have put on the car. It is extremely dangerous especially on wet roads. I have not reported this to gm. I was searching the internet for a recall and found your website.

43 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/01/2021

Reduced or loss of power steering assist. Steering wheel jerks or kicks back when turning. Service stabilitrak message with warning chime. Engine stall. Ipc going blank or inoperative. Radio/ics going blank. Hvac going blank. Hood ajar message and/or dome lamps flash when shifting into reverse. Alarm sounds when locking doors or door locks cycling. Wipers continue to run for a short time after turning off and then stop/park in the incorrect location engine stall and loss of steering almost caused a collision putting mine and others lives at risk. This has happened seven times since I bought the car in July 2021. No warning its going to happen other than dash lights flicker , warning lights on, steering fails, car dies, won't restart. Gm has a technical service bulletin #18-na-161 . I hope you can do something about this serious problem before someone is serious hurt or dies. Thank you.

44 Steering problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/02/2021

The steering pump has plenty of fluid in the reservoir and has been changed regularly. All of the sudden all power assisted steering disappeared when turning to the left making parking nearly impossible causing a great safety concern as this is my only vehicle and now my wife cannot take the truck anywhere. According to other owners, it's a common issue caused by the booster valve sticking shut and when I inquired about repair, I was quoted a part cost of 300 bucks which I don't have at all. Hopefully enough folks report this issue resulting in action taken by NHTSA even though the vehicle is almost 20 years old.

45 Steering problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

Customer has a 2007 Suburban, the steering angle sensor is faulty causing diagnostic trouble code c0455 and traction control inoperative , tested sensor directly to verify fault, the part is no longer available from gm nor aftermarket, it is my professional opinion that there should be a viable part number available from the vehicle manufacturer as this is causing a safety hazard. I’ve reached out to gm corporate and have yet to receive a response. Questions or comments please call [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

46 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

At slow speeds when turning I get loss of steering, service stabilatrak and service park assist as well as truck dies and I lose the radio.

47 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/02/2021

Purchased vehicle in March 2020, have had 4 instances of making a left hand turn and vehicle shuts off. Have read that steering assist recall was done, but from what I've read this is exactly what it is doing, low speed and making a turn. Any suggestions or have others experienced same? date is last time but has happened about 4x s now since last summer.

48 Steering problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/07/2021

Vehicle dash and headlights turn off while driving, engine stalls and dies, power steering becomes inoperative. Transmission pops out of gear and freewheels. Service stabilitrack light. Very dangerous situation for my wife and 5 kids when this happens on curvy backroads at night like just happened last night! this is also the same problem as our previous chevy tahoe so we knew the problem was likely related to poor quality battery cables that are degrading prematurely. This should not be happening on a 3-4 year old vehicle. After searching a gm web forum and finding other people complaining about the same issue, there was a reference to gm TSB 18-na-161 on this exact issue I am absolutely amazed that gm has not done a recall on this yet, as it is a major safety failure likely to cause a crash and potentially a fatality. I checked the tightness on the connections by hand, which were both very tight, then I reseated and torqued the battery terminal connection. I measured the resistance across the power jumper, lug to lug. This is gm part number 84494554, and I measured 0. 3 ohms across this little section of wire at multiple points on the lugs. Trimming back the insulation and continuing the measure, the highest resistance appears to be coming from the wire to the lug connection at the fuse bus, and not the crimp connection at the battery terminal, and not the bolted connection to the bus. There were some strands broken at this connection. I made and added a temporary jumper of the same wire gage, and the resistance across the same measured points dropped to 0. 0 ohms. Absolutely a major safety issue if the vehicle suddenly dies without warning. I can see this same issue happening once, I forgave gm once years ago, but with the same issue happening to two different vehicles 8 model years apart, the safety of my family is too important to buy gm product in the future.

49 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

This has happened at least 10 different times within a month. First time I was parked and when I went to put the vehicle in drive, I tried to turn steering wheel and it seemed to lock up and all the lights started to flicker. After about a second it allowed me to use steering wheel. This seems to happen at a very slow speed. When I drive through at restaraunts, the steering wheel locks up. The radio will quit playing. If I turn off the vehicle and restart it the radio will work once again. When the vehicle does this, none of the turning signals work.

50 Steering problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

I have this vehicle for only a year I went to get my brakes done to be told by the mechanic that it needs work on the suspension from rust almost my whole entire suspension system and a auto shop told my finance company that there are no problems but clearly there is.

51 Steering problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

My family and I had a trip to l. A. About 2 hours away. When we were half of the trip. My truck started to flickering all interior and exterior lights. All sounds including radio and turn signal when off. After that I tried to get out of the next coming exit, before that there was a curve when the worse part happen. My truck turned off all light in the vehicle for 1 second affecting the steering wheel. I wasn't able to make the turn that was coming in front of me luckily was only 1 second that this happened then all power came back. Got out of the freeway right away. This experience was really terrible for our family and I. The motor never when off only electrical on the truck. By the way we were driving 70mph on the freeway when this happened.

52 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

After recently purchasing a used 2015 gm vehicle from a non-gm dealership, I made a service appointment with a local authorized gm service shop to have three outstanding safety recall issues addressed. My appointment was for 7:30 am on 8/25/2020 and I brought my vehicle to the shop in the morning of 8/25. After 4:30 pm I returned to retrieve my vehicle, and the service shop had not even brought it in to lol at the issues. No work had been performed, despite the service department having my vehicle in their possession not only during the timeframe specifically scheduled for them to perform this service, but the entire remainder of the work day. The safety recall issues remain unresolved.

53 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/10/2020

I purchased this vehicle and was unaware it had open recalls which could have resulted in an accident. The dealership I purchased from did not fix the recalls prior to my purchase and did not inform me there was an open recall.

54 Steering problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

Brake/abs light on and ecbm for abs not working no anti lock brake system and for the electrical vehicle has all kinds of electrical issues had to remove fuse to radio because of it going bonkers and it wouldn't turn off or down sounds like a fax machine or old school dial up internet sounds all the time and siren sounds were coming from radio and speakers only way to make it stop was to pull the fuse and have had to get multiple four wheel alignments because of steering and steering has to much play in it before Suburban turns.

55 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/14/2020

This happened on 2 occasions. First incident was on 2/14/2020, power steering went out and was unable to turn steering wheel. Had taken to Chevrolet dealership locally and they put on computer and showed low voltage. They assured me it was the batter and that I need an ac delco battery and that would resolve the issue. Even had them hook it back to computer to make sure nothing was popping up wrong and to assure it was just battery. They did and nothing showed wrong after changing batter. I went out of town over the weekend trusting their judgment, with my children. Then on 2/20/2020 it happened again! it was taken again and had 9 things showing wrong on the computer. They now are saying it is the power steering gear. I believe this is an issue that needs to be recalled before someone is hurt. I trusted that it was just the battery. I could have hurt someone, my children, if it had happened and I could not turn the wheel to avoid an accident. I was told that the part is on backorder. I think that says enough if they have it on backorder, there is a problem. Thankfully both times I was able to get it taken to the Chevrolet place safely without injury. Both times it was stopped, once at a red light and second parked and had gotten out for maybe 3 minutes and it popped up on the screen when I got back in vehicle.

56 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

Nhtsa tracking # 11308677 - additional and updated info. The problem with our vehicle is that the power assist motor is malfunctioning causing intermittent power supply to the power assist motor, causing the car to become unable to steer or lurch unexpectedly to the left while underway. This is life threatening. The NHTSA approved a recall on the 2015 Suburban for specific dates of build, for which ours is not included according to gm. Nhtsa campaign id 14v19000 is in relation to this issue. Apparently. Our vehicle has the same issue the recall should be extended to cover models made when ours was made. Again, this is a life threatening failure that is just waiting to happen unless gm corrects the issue.

57 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

This is a known issue. Loss of steering assist occurred this past week, 3 times. We took the vehicle in for the recall on this item 5-16-19, when the system was "reprogrammed" by the techs at the chevy dealership. We had never experienced this issue. Then last week, the issue occurred. There was a temporary loss of power assist on a long right hand turn at 35 mph when a female was driving which caused some concern. Then yesterday the steering stopped entirely in a parking lot. I arrived and got in the car and was able to steer but someone of lesser strength could not have. I drove around the parking lot and was headed straight to the dealership, abut 5 miles away. The steering came back on. Then halfway to the dealership, what had happened to my wife happened to me at about 40 mph (steering goes out for a second) and the vehicle lurches hard to the right. She was behind me in my vehicle and saw it happen. We were able to get to the dealership. They documented the lack of power steering assist incidents via the computer. My point is that if this was corrected in may 2019, why is it happening again? if you are not expecting the issue, you will be caught off guard and a wreck is potentially unavoidable. What if I had a trailer in tow at 60+ mhp? death could be the result, for the driver or others. If the issue has not been corrected, gm should pull these vehicles off the road and replace them, free of charge.

58 Steering problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

61 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

When traveling at slow speeds, I. E. , parking lot or restaurant drive-thru line, and making sharp turns, car stabilitrak warning will flash then loss of power steering and complete loss of power will result. Additionally, the media electronics will shut off and restart periodically. This doesn't necessarily happen at the same time, although, this never happens when I am not having problems with the stabilitrak system. (see previous complaint: 11122704) took car for service at capitol chevy on 8/30/19. They said no codes were indicated, however, throttle body was dirty and could have an effect on my issue. Throttle body was serviced/cleaned. On sept. 2, 2019 I had issue with media system and stabilitrak. While traveling southbound on I-85, cruise control set approx. 75 mph, I braked to disengage cruise speed when media system reset. I pulled into my driveway approx. 20 minutes later and while traveling at slow speed and turning in my driveway, the stabilitrak warning came on resulting in loss of power steering. I was nearly at a stop when it happened. Sometimes when the car loses power in these situations it will have to be jumped off to restart. Which happened prior to being serviced on 8/28/19. I read about similar stories on chevy message boards related to 2015 models,.

66 Steering problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

This vehicle has less than 84,000 miles on it, and the chassis or frame is rotted. The rear anti sway bar already rotted off it, and the front bar is hanging down on the passenger side. I have photos of this, but don't know how to download them. The body has a little rot here, and there, but that is repairable. I spent a lot of money in purchasing this vehicle, and I expected it to last a very long time. The interior is almost like new. I am thinking about putting a tort claim about this to gm. Please help me all you can. I forgot to write that I also spent extra money for it to be undercoated, and it is supposed to be a lifetime warranty. I called that company, and they said it was only for 10 years. When I buy a new vehicle, I expect it to last.

67 Steering problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/22/2019

1) intermittently when turning vehicle at slow speeds, there is sudden loss of steering and electric power steering violently bouncing the wheel back to neutral position when attempting to steer left or right. There is also sudden loss of electricity, engine turns off, requiring to shift to park and restart engine. This issue usually occurs after rain or after car wash (water entering shark fin antenna) 2) intermittent complete power loss throughout the vehicle (occurs especially after rain - when shark fin antenna gets filled with water) and feels like battery is suddenly completely dead. Sometimes it can not be jump started immediately, and after more than an hour, it may be jump started. 3) water leaking into the front left corner of roof (driver side) after rain - again due to shark fin anternna leak. There are many owners of chevy Suburban/tahoe, silverado, gm truck reporting exactly same problems all over internet and on youtube. This problem still exists after the recent 09/07/2018 recall 18v586000 fix. This recall did not help solve this problem. In many youtube videos people report having fixed this issue by replacing battery positive and ground cables, as well as by removing the sound dampening material trapped under g218 ground on the driver side of dash (people have mentioned about increased resistance across g218 ground). . Failure Date: 04/01/2019

I am trying to have gm reinstall the safety feature, lane departure warning . . . I would like to talk with jason lavine, who is quoted in a keith barry article published 9-11-19. Gm recently literally took away the haptic warning function recently by "updating" the software in the 2017 Suburban. On page 298 of the owners manual it states that when the car drifts to the left or right, the lane departure feature will either beep or there will be a rumble in the seat on the left or right side depending on the drift. This is a safety feature I paid for and like very much. It is very useful to be subtlety reminded that the car is drifting to the right or left. I have contacted customer service twice to no avail. I have written mary t barra, ceo of gm, and have not even received a "we're working on it" reply from her. This is a pure and simple safety feature that gm has taken away from me, with no explanation or regrets. Please advise on the best way to resolve this issue. **thanks, jb askew ## VIN failed ## , ##.
