39 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

Vehicle #1 (my 2007 Tahoe lt3) was traveling north on hwy 278 in powder springs, GA. Vehicle 2 (Toyota 4runner) was traveling south. Vehicle 2 crossed center line and went into a spin crashing into the door and right front wheel and fender which propelled/launched my 2007 Tahoe across one lane of traffic into the guard rail striking the guard rail with my passenger front fender and bumper. My Tahoe was totaled by insurance. Onstar which I have paid for since 2007 did not register the crash and my air bags did not deploy. I suffered severe whiplash from being hit in the driver side then an second impact as I hit the guard rail. My seat belts protected me from the driver side impact; however, because my right shoulder and side of my body thrown across the Tahoe console for the impact of the guard rail, I suffered injuries to the right side of my body as well. The left impact and then the right side impact caused severe whiplash and ensuing headaches.

41 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

I took my 2005 chevy Tahoe in for a service lite. I was informed that the under dash connectors for the airbag system needed to be replaced or the airbags would not work in an accident, at a cost of just over $500. 00. I asked what the exact problem was and was told that the connector was loose and not making connect. I then did some basic research on the web looking for recalls and such and found several reports of collisions involving 05 Tahoes where the airbags did not deploy at speeds exceeding 35mph. I was also informed that gm already had an upgraded connector set to replace the bad ones as the problem has been seen more than once. It appears to me that gm knows that a manufacturing defect is at fault, they have identified the problem and made an upgraded replacement part and have no problem charging consumers $500. 00 to replace the parts. In the meantime people are driving the vehicles and I guess, hoping the airbag will deploy in the event of an accident, which is not the case in several crashes. I have no way to check what vehicles / model years those connectors were used on but, it seems like there is a problem here that should be looked at before more accidents become fatal. My wife was saved by her airbag being deployed in a previous accident, I am glad we did not find out the hard way this one would not have been there for her.

42 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

In 2013 I noticed small cracks on the dash around the top corners of the passenger airbag. Since then, I will hear random "popping" sounds as new cracks develop on the dash above the instrument panel. There's about 3 inches left before the entire thing cracks open. There's a semi-circle piece now missing from the dash because the crack opened up entirely and the piece is now rattling somewhere in the dash. . . After a particularly loud crack, I noticed the passenger airbag light will intermittently come on. This is the light that says whether it's "on or off. " most of the time it will not come on, even with a person clearly sitting in the passenger seat. I'm afraid the airbag will either fail to deploy or randomly deploy. . .

43 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/02/2012

I was driving west on rio rd. In charlottesville, va, at roughly 35 mph. At approximately 6:00 pm, a deer emerged from the passenger side of the vehicle. It happened instantaneously and avoiding the deer was not an option. Immediately after striking the deer at the front right bumper (underneath headlight), the side airbags deployed in my 2011 chevy Tahoe. However, the airbag that was suppose to deploy from the drivers seat (on the side near seatbelt) did not deploy. Additionally, the front two airbags (from steering wheel and dashboard) did not deploy as well. Moreover, approximately three months back, another family member also hit a deer with the same vehicle (2011 chevy Tahoe) and at that time no airbags deployed. In this incident the vehicle was traveling 70 mph and the deer struck the left side of the front bumper and no airbags deployed. At the time, we didn't even think about defective airbags, but now, we are very, very concerned that there's a defect. We simply do not know what to do. I have contacted Chevrolet directly and they assure me someone will come out and look at the vehicle this week sometime. I would be relieved if someone from the NHTSA also investigates these two scenarios. What is Chevrolet's responsibility to me and my family in these two cases? and what is the best course of action? furthermore, I can arrange for my insurance adjustor to gather any documentation from the first incident (where airbags did not deploy) such as photos, reports and provide them to you. The vehicle is sitting in my driveway because I am waiting for a Chevrolet representative to come and inspect it. I would appreciate your prompt action in this matter. Thank you!.

54 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

I was driving my 2002 chevy Tahoe, a gentleman ran a stop sign, I hit him at 39 mph, head on in my Tahoe, t-boned his truck. Neither airbag deployed, nor did my seatbelt keep me from hitting the steering wheel and my head knocking me out. Gm sent someone to look at my car which has been deemed a total loss. I have yet to hear back from gm on this incident. I purchased this car brand new thinking it was safe. The one time I needed my seatbelt to work, it failed. The computer in my car showed both seatbelts were on and in working order, it showed the crash was at 39 mph yet the airbags did not deploy and they were in proper working order. Whatever answer gm gives me will not be good enough unless they admit to faultiness in their equipment.

57 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/24/2009

Air bag light is activated. I have had my 2000 Tahoe LS in for service to correct this problem once already, but after about 2 months the light is back on. I felt I needed to file this report because of several articles I have read on this subject. I have read everything from air bags will not deploy, to air bags will deploy for no reason at all, both of which should be considered unacceptable and dangerous.

58 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

I have been seing commercials about airbags not deploying on chevy vehicles. My daughter was killed in my 04 chevy Tahoe where the airbags did not deploy. She was thrown from the vehicle and also another person was in the car as well. Airbags on the drivers or passengers side did not deploy. The truck flipped several times. The drivers seat also lifted up and was split in to. 62 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/10/2008

All of the sudden the air bag indicator light came on and a message appeared saying "service air bag". We took it to a mechanic and he hooked it up to the computer system and it said that whole air bag system had failed (several sensors had failed). We called chevy to see if it might be able to be fixed with a warranty, but they said the car is out of warranty. (we knew this, but figured there should be an extended warranty on airbags. ) they told us to take it to a chevy dealership. We called the local dealership and they told us it would cost $100 for the diagnostic test. However, we already did this with our other mechanic. Chevy basically wouldn't help us unless we paid for the diagnostic which is ridiculous since we already did that. The guy at the dealership told us that we could drive around, no problem, but that the air bags wouldn't deploy. We were told by our mechanic that it would be very expensive to fix this. We think it is unfair that we have to pay to get this fixed, when there has never been any accidents with this car. The airbags have never deployed, and all the sudden the system won't work if we need it and get in an accident. We're asking for help to get chevy to fix this problem because they should. This could be a potential lawsuit if there were an accident. Please help us to get chevy to take responsibility for an error that happened during the building of the car.

63 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/08/2008

2008 Chevrolet Tahoe ltz has had service airbag warnings displayed since the day we purchased it new from the Chevrolet dealer. Dealer repaired day of purchase and it was been returned to dealer three additional times for the same problem; service airbag light illuminates in the driver information center. We've received a different report of the problem and the solution each time from the dealer service department. The most recent time, onstar actually called the vehicle and told us they were receiving airbag warnings from the vehicle and that the airbags may not deploy in the event of an accident. There has not been an accident or injury to date, but we are obviously concerned that if there is an accident that we will not be protected. Feel free to call with any questions.

64 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/10/2008

2003 Tahoe and on many occasions the service air bag sensor has come on. I have been told that when this light is on the air bag will not deploy. This seems very dangerous. Also the dealer can't get a code on what is wrong with it unless the light is on. It doesn't stay on a long time but is very frequent in coming on. Looks like this should be a safety issue and should have a recall on it.

65 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

66 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

69 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/18/2007

Air bags failed to deploy in a crash. The frame of our 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was buckled in the crash. Crash test data was retrieved from the vehicle, although general motors does not feel that they are in a position to honor our request for damages against them. My husband and I both received back and neck injuries during the accident.

70 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/24/2006

On my wife's way home form work she was involved in an accident, were she rear ended another vehicle, the crash was at about 35 to 45 miles per hour and it affected the front driver side of our 2002 chevy Tahoe. The impact was so significant that the frame of the Tahoe was bent. The crash pretty much mimicked the same off center front crash that the insurance institute for highway safety conducts on their testing. The problem was that the front airbags never deployed although the accident happened unexpectedly, my wife was wearing her seat belt and didn't sustained serious injuries. Our concern is that the bags never deployed and that they might deploy at anytime. The auto body shop recommended by our insurance company told us that because the crash impact was off centered the airbag sensor were never triggered. After seeing so of the insurance institute for highway safety test the bags should have deployed. Also it was determined that the frame has to be replaced and all the body parts fixed and replaced. If the frame has to be replaced how safe would that vehicle be? I am open for any farther conversations about this topic. Thank you.
