1 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/05/2011

I was driving on e-470 westbound near quebec when the car shutdown completely. No power. The car then would not start and had to be towed to the dealer to have a computer check. They told me it was the fuel pump, after a week, when I was having it towed to my mechanic for the repair, I decided to try to start it and it started right up. I drove it to my mechanic who checked the fuel pump and said it was fine. They could not find a reason why this happened. Same with another mechanic. Since then (I had owned the car for 5 months at that point) this has happened four more times, the latest on may 9th. Again it's been towed and again I am trying to find a permanent solution. I am now finding out the passlock anti-theft system malfunctions and cuts off fuel to the pump because the car thinks it is being stolen. I have also learned it has been a common problem in many GMC models over many years. Sometimes the passlock system can be reset (though that has never worked for me). The only way to permanently fix the problem is to disable the passlock anti-theft system. These systems should be removed from these cars. I would rather my car be stolen then shut down at 65 mph or when my wife is driving home from downtown denver at 10:30 at night through not so great parts of town.

The contact replaced the battery in the vehicle but the failure persisted. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

3 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/19/2009

A CO-worker and I went to a christian book store during lunch on Thursday, March 19, 2009, we left our office at 12:30 pm. We arrived at the store approximately 12:50 pm. We went into the store, we weren't in the store 10 minutes and my alarm was going off on my 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. I tried to unlock & relock the truck because I thought it was just a fluke. I looked out the window of the store and saw a little smoke coming from the hood (near the windshield). I thought maybe it was overheating (we never had any trouble with overheating in the past), fire never entered my mind for a second. I ran outside and opened the door. When I opened the door there was a bunch of smoke and fire under the driver's side dash. Then the fire went crazy. The fire department said it took all the water they had to put it out (500 gallons). They are pretty sure it was electrical. We have never had any trouble with this Tahoe. We didn't have anything mechanically done to it. It literally caught fire sitting in the parking lot. If this had happened when I was still driving my friend and I wouldn't be alive. This has been a very traumatic event in my life, don't know what the insurance is going to do if anything and can't afford another vehicle payment. Plus the Tahoe was only 4 payments from being paid off. Called Chevrolet on Friday, March 20th , talked to oscar robins and he was suppose to talk to my husband, instead he had his representative call him and ask him useless questions (like my height??). My husband said that representative was going to call me with some more questions. They never did.

6 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/19/2004

My 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe intermittently fails to start. The engine cranks and then dies. It will do this, then I will let it sit for a while (45 min. To several hours) and I'll go back out and it will start right up. Mechanics have told me there's nothing that can be done until it does it consistently. On 8/19/04, I tried to start it @ 7:45 a. M. It took me until 8:25 a. M. To start it, after which I drove to work (late). I went back out to leave the office @ 10:30 a. M. - no start. Had it towed to dealership - started right up. According to the bcm, a code of dtc1626 showed up, which indicates something like the theft deterrent system is preventing the fuel enable signal from being received. The dealership soldered the wiring connections on the theft deterrent harness (previously, connections were crimped), which they said had helped several other Tahoe owners. Two days later, my husband was stranded with my non-starting Tahoe and my receipt for $161. 84 for "fixing" the problem. There has to be a fix for this problem!! there are at least 6 other similar complaints on this website as well as 4 service bulletins, but no one seems to have a clue as to why this is happening or how to prevent it! I've owned 2 silverados and 1 yukon since 1984 and have been extremely happy with gm's products, but this Tahoe takes the cake! if it hadn't been an anniversary gift from my husband, I would have sold it by now!.

7 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/10/2004

I have owned a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe for a little over 2 years. On at least 6 occasions, the vehicle won't crank up. The engine doesn't even turn over as if to crank, but if you wait 1 to 12 hours, it will crank right up. The engine decides how long it will take to reset itself and allow us to crank it. We asked a friend who is a Chevrolet mechanic about the possible cause of this problem. He said that it was a common problem with Tahoes of that year. He said that the vehicle alarm system thinks that it has been broken into, and tries to protect itself from theft and won't crank. On none of the occasions that it has disabled itself have we had the alarm system disrupted. Our mechanic friend says he has seen it several times, but the Chevrolet company says that they never heard of this problem. It costs several hundred dollars to fix the problem, therefore I live with it every day. On a recent vacation to the mountains, I was afraid to turn the vehicle off when we got out of it to take pictures for fear that it wouldn't start back up. Is there any information on this problem? have you heard it before?.
