3 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

Our speedometer does not tell us how fast we are going all the time. Most of the time it is fine but occasionally it will register a different speed than what we are traveling. Sometimes it says we are going slower than what we are actually going and sometimes it says we are going faster than we are going.

4 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

My instrument cluster went bad while driving. I took it to Chevrolet and was told there was a recall on the part but only up to 7years or 70, 000 miles. From what I know, gm was well aware that they made defective instrument cluster and don't want to replace them. I have 6 children to transport back and forth from school and practice, my speedometer not working is unsafe for my children.

5 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/29/2012

While driving speedometer stays at 0. Instrument cluster is malfunctioning.

6 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Last October, while driving my 2004 chevy Tahoe lt, the tachometer on the instrument cluster failed after an acceleration event and never functioned again. Since it was the tachometer element, it did not raise any significant concern, only disappointment. However, on 3/15/2013, the analog oil pressure gauge needle went all the way to the right ( indicating failure, I assume) and then on 3/30/2013, the speedometer began to function on an intermittent basis and continues to do so. After reading some of the 341 complaints on line, I cannot believe gm gets a pass on a critical safety/legal component like the cluster group and no recall has been issued. In general, what authority does the NHTSA have in coercing auto manufacturers to issue recalls in the u. S. ?.

7 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Speedometer stopped working or will display false speeds from 0 while driving on highway to 120 while driving on surface streets. While researching this problem I have found many other 2005 chevy Tahoe owners experiencing the same problem.

8 Instrument Panel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. Consumer states after driving on the highway for 15 minutes or so the tire low pressure indicator light on the instrument panel came on the consumer stated before he took the vehicle to the dealer, the air was checked several times, with no indication of a problem. The consumer then took the vehicle to the dealer, where they replaced the sensor in the right rear tire. However, the problem continued. The consumer went to another dealer, where they ran a test and found no problem. After filing a complaint, the consumer went back to the second dealer where they found a lock problem. They replaced and reprogrammed the rcdlr. The consumer stated the problem is ongoing. Also, the doors locked on their own on a number of occasions.

11 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/04/2012

I have a 2005 Tahoe which I bought new. About 5-6 months ago my speedometer went out. I didn't have the funds at the time and let it go even though I felt it was a safety issue. I received no letter from gm that they were having this problem until today. I brought my car into my local goodyear place and they were going to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix it. My sister, who had worked at gm, had me call the Chevrolet dealership jack burford in richmond, kentucky. They said they'd give me a new cluster but that I would have to pay for the labor ($130), I then called gn at 800-222-1020 and talked with a woman named[xxx]. She told me that they did not have a recall on that issue but a "special policy". Also, it was good only for cars with less than 80,000 miles. Mine has 97,000. They're still going to fix it though but it makes me upset that they didn't notify me about this problem and that I have to pay for the labor. The policy apparently went into effect in 2005, when I purchased the vehicle and expires in July, 2012. I wonder if other people have had this problem and, if so, since this is potentially a safety issue, should the cars be recalled? thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

12 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that all of the instrument panel gauges were defective and did not provide an accurate reading. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed the failure and advised that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 122,000.

13 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/27/2011

Instrumentation problem. Speedometer stepper motor does not reset to zero. This results in the inaccurate reporting of vehicle speed. This is a safety hazard. This issue is widely reported throughout the internet. We lent a ton of money to gm and they need to be called to the carpet to remedy these issues promptly.

14 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/29/2011

2003 Tahoe has a defective instrument panel cluster - gm refuses to repair under their "special coverage" because that coverage expired at 80,000 miles. My vehicle is setup with a tow package allowing you to tow up to 7,000 pounds. It is critically important that you know your speed when towing a trailer or you can easily loose control. My spedomoter is currently stuck at 10 miles per hour. Gm has diagnosed and stated the instrument cluster is defective. Gm does not consider a spedometer to be a safety device, but because they promote this vehicle with a "tow package" speed becomes a much more critical factor in vehicle operation.

15 Instrument Panel problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe. While parked, the contact noticed that the passenger side air bag warning light was illuminated with the passenger seat occuppied. In addition, the gauges on the instrument panel would not provide an accurate reading. The failure would recur intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics but the technicians were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

16 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/28/2010

While driving through town the speedometer on my Tahoe was saying I was going 90 mph. After cycling the key on and off several times it was working correctly, then while traveling down the interstate the speedometer quit working completely being stuck on 67 mph no matter what speed I was going, causing me to get flipped off several times by fellow drivers. Eventually the needle started moving again but said I was going 120 when I was going 60 on my gps.

17 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/14/2010

Speedometer not working correctly. Shows 50 mph when stopped and 120 mph when on city streets. Was working without any issues and then today it is incorrect. I have searched the internet and noticed this is becoming widespread.

18 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/08/2010

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe with 68,863 miles. The speedometer starting reading 20 miles an hour yesterday when parked. When driving the speedometer is erratic and reads approximately 20-30 miles an hour faster than I believe I am traveling. I have researched and found many reports of this problem. This is a severe safety issue and this defect is a problem the manufacturer should repair at no charge. Recall this vehicle.

19 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/05/2010

2004 Tahoe: speedometer reads crazy during long trip. Have read about this issue and now it has happened to my Tahoe. It's now a permanent issue and I rely on my gps device to monitor my speed. I'm waiting for the other cluster instruments to fail and then I will have to replace the parts on all. It's pathetic that gm will not recall this as a serious safety issue. It's not like you can drive without this gauge - will gm pay my tickets?.

20 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/03/2010

2004 chevy Tahoe speedometer sticks at various speed levels and intermittently will not return to zero when the vehicle is not in motion. Speedometer can stick at excessive speeds indicated on the cluster, this had intermittently effected the cruise control operation. This was a known issue by gm, no recall was provided. My vehicle is over 80,000 (82,500) miles. Issue started with my vehicle at about 78k, but was not brought in by me to gm because there was not an announced recall. Gm decided to replace the clusters for customers who had the defect occur between 70 and 80k, with a charge for the labor, not the part. Given the fact this is a safety issue (speed indication and intermittent cruise control, gm should provide full replacement, parts and labor.

21 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving various speeds the speedometer and fuel gauge malfunctioned. The contact was unable to determine how fast the vehicle was traveling. The manufacturer mailed the contact a letter regarding the defect with the instrument cluster. When the letter was received the contact did not have an issue with the instrument cluster on the vehicle. The letter stated that the manufacturer extended the warranty to seven years from the date that the vehicle was in service or 70,000 miles. The contact exceeded the extended warranty and the dealer will not repair the instrument cluster under the warranty; however, the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since this was a known safety issue. The failure mileage was 55,000.

22 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/21/2010

-the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the speedometer functioned intermittently and the failure was progressively becoming worse. The dealer stated that there was no warranty and the contact would be responsible for repair costs. The current and failure mileages were approximately 129,000.

23 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

My 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe has a problem with the speedometer not giving accurate readings. It will jump from 0 to 120 mph and stick somewhere in between or give a false mph reading or just go to zero and register nothing. The problem seems prevalent with all Tahoes. Gm needs to have a recall and fix this dangerous situation instead of charging everybody $500-$900 when they know they have a serious defect. This problem has been ongoing now for the last 2 years.

24 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

2004 chevy Tahoe (108k miles) speedometer was stuck at 70 mph, then slowly decreased down to zero. Over the next 3 weeks it became more sporadic and now it only reads "0" all the time. Mechanic wanted to charge me $350 to replace the entire instrument cluster. This is a known defect and chevy should take responsibility for it.

25 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/03/2010

Speedometer on 2003 chevy Tahoe defective - while driving on the freeway on my way home from work in moderate traffic, I look down and my speedo is displaying over 120mph. This caught me off-guard and I stepped on the brakes, almost getting rear-ended. I called the dealer and they stated that there is a service bulletin out that would cover this safety issue. However since my vehicle has 85k it does not qualify. Upon searching on the internet, this appears to be a major safety issue and it is evident this is a known problem for many years. Dealer wants to charge over $750-$1000 to fix this safety problem! something needs to done!.

26 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. While traveling at speeds of 60 mph, the contact noticed that the instrument panel had become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the dashboard would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 12,000.

27 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/13/2010

Erratic speedometer indications, speedometer stuck on 120mph while driving at a speed calibrated by memory using the tachometer. The same complaints submitted by multiple purchasers of this vehicle for years that the problem is apparently a dash cluster for consumer paid replacement of$450. 00.

28 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

My 2005 chevy Tahoe has developed a problem with the speedometer. The gauge reads 20-30 mph faster than it should and then it eventually pegs out at 120 mph. It will return to 0 after the switch is cycled on/off but it's impossible to know your speed when it's malfunctioning.

29 Instrument Panel problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

Special coverage adjustment-instrument panel cluster gauge needle functions #07187a I have a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, panel cluster does not work. Take to the dealer and they told me my Tahoe is not include. Gm knew about he defective part and still used them on the newer model like 2007. Currently there is a class action suit about this incident and there is many other owner with the same problem. Some dealers are repairing this as good will from gm.

30 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/13/2010

My speedometer on my 2005 chevy Tahoe z71 4x4 stops working intermittently shows we are going way slower or 0 when we are driving.

31 Instrument Panel problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

I have a 2004 chevy Tahoe. My instrument panel is messed up. My speedometer does not work, it flutters or pegs out all the way. Now my oil gauge is bottom out. In researching the internet, I see that this is a common problem and that chevy will only fix it if you have less than 70,000 miles. I have over 100,000 miles on my car and I consider it a safety hazard. 98% of the time I do not know how fast I am really going. I heard that a recall will not be issued because it is not a "safety hazard". Well I disagree, because people are not always aware of their fuel level, how fast/slow they are really driving.

32 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/28/2009

2003 Tahoe speedometer displays inaccurate value. Do not know at what speed vehicle is traveling. Doesn't seem to be any common denominator as to what speed it displays and you don't know when it is accurate or not. This is scary! internet search reports a on going problem. What does it take to make this addressed and corrected?.

33 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/24/2009

Approx. Every other time I drive my 2003 chevy Tahoe the speedometer misreads. It is usually off by around 20-30 mph under the actual speed of the vehicle. The oil pressure is also affected by dropping to almost zero. I have heard there is a recall for 2005 silverado with similar problems however I have not found a recall for my vehicle. Thank you.

34 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact observed the speedometer displayed incorrect reading, regardless of the speed being traveled. In addition, failure occurred with the fuel gauge which resulted in an inaccurate reading at any given fuel level capacity. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. The failure mileage was unknown.

35 Instrument Panel problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. Speedometer failure. The speedometer is stuck at 20 mph. Personal research has led me to believe that Chevrolet has acknowledged a defect in drive motors within the instrument panel from a parts manufacturer in 10 models produced from 2003 to 2007. This is a definite safety hazard that Chevrolet needs to address via a recall of all effected models.
