Speedometer on 2003 chevy Tahoe defective - while driving the other day at 55mph speedometer jumped to over 100 mph. This caught me off-guard and I stepped on the brakes, almost getting rear-ended in moderate traffic. A major safety issue, in my opinion!! now when vehicle is stopped speedometer reading 50 mph. Reading on the web it is evident this is a known problem for many years. Dealer wants to charge over $800 to fix this safety problem!.

2004 chevorlet Tahoe speedometer began to show that the speed was to slow than I was going. Now its showing I am going faster than I am. Tonight my speedometer is stuck on 0 mph.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the gauges on the instrument panel were not functional. At the time of the complaint, the fuel gauge and tachometer were not working at all. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint but offered no further assistance. The current mileage was approximately 80,000. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe under 70k miles. My speedometer quit working. I found out that gm issued a specials program to fix the instrument panel on 03, 04 and some 05 Tahoes if they are under 70k miles. My VIN number was outside the lot of approved VIN's. I contacted gm customer service and was led to believe they would provide some coverage for my repairs if the gm mechanic could verify that the problem with my speedometer was the exact problem being recalled. After one week of phone messages from gm that they were working towards a resolve, I was denied any coverage. My complaint is lack of ownership of the problem with my Tahoe by gm. The mechanic at our local gm dealer verified to gm that my instrument panel was the exact defect that was being recalled. I was still denied and was told by the customer relations department that the speedometer not working was due to the previous owner? this was such a ludicrous statement by customer service. We are now forced with fixing the speedometer at our expense even though it was proven to be the fault of general motors. I am filing a complain with the better business bureau as well.

2003 chevy Tahoe, under 80k miles, speedometer "sticks". Currently registering 120 mph while sitting still. Takes several days for speedometer to return to zero or show correct speed. Have found multiple descriptions of same issue on many internet forums.

Purchased 2004 Tahoe for my son thinking it was a reliable vehicle. Little did I know that I got a lemon! the instrument panel was the first to go, although now it seems to be in the suggested mode, english. Then, the speedometer started acting erratically, going from 55 mph to 120 mph in like seconds. I believe the vehicle has about 105,000. . . . What happens now? I hear its expensive to fix and I don't think I should have to pay for it. This is a defect and clearly there are thousands of people out there with the same problem. . . . Please help. .

Ihave a 2003 chevy Tahoewith less than 41,000 miles on it. Speedometer doesnt work ,stock to 120 mph. I heard that some people who have the same problem about their instrument panel called chevy/GMC and admit that certain vins had defective cluster(including mine)yet they will not recall or replace unless the vehicle has less than 70,000 miles on it,but I called chevy and they dont admit about this but instead they suggest to bring my truck to a dealer to diagnose what the problem is with my own expenses. I own a 2005 GMC pick up and a 2005 chevy Tahoe and the speed odometer just goes crazy in both vehicles. They go from 50 to 0 to 85 and back to 0 . The local dealer say they can't find anything wrong but I keep reading that this is getting very common in these vehicles. Is there some way to do a recall before someone gets hurt or killed.

The speed gauge was struck on 10 than 20 it stop working all together about two months go. Iam going to get it fix.

My speedometer failed 5/14/2009 and the gas needle failed shortly afterward. They are completely no reliable.

Looked down at the speedometer and it read 90 mph when I was only going about 55 mph. Then when stopped it doesn't go to zero it stays at around 25-35 mph, standing still.

I also have a gm speedometer that failed. We were driving along the highway, cruise control on, when speedometer became erratic and pegged to 120 mph. It has not returned to normal operation. I am out of town and have not I made repairs as of yet.

My husband and I purchased a brand new 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. In the month of March 2009 my speedometer started to read I was going 120 miles per hr but of course that was not the speed I was going. We took our Tahoe back to the servco dealership because I had googled and read that there was a speedometer problem and gm was fixing the problem. Well the dealership said that the VIN # for the cluster was not one that gm was going to replace for free. Why would they replace some and not all. I would like to make a complaint. I will never buy a american made car as long as I live. That's for sure.

Vehicle was vandalized resulting in replacement of 2007 model dual climate control cluster from gm. Replacement part superseded 2007 model for the 2008 model, as the 2008 model is "better" design. The 2008 model however has a different color backlight display, resulting in uncontigous lighting on the interior. Resulting in further deterioration of vehicle value. Gm specifications fail to recognize the difference in lighting color, and are unable to replicate the 2007 climate control cluster. Still waiting for solution to this problem after 6 weeks of working with gm corporate, and local dealership.

Around mid October of 2008 I financed the vehicle through a lot called auto concepts in jacksonville north carolina and the speedometer started raising to 30 mph sitting still around late January of 2009 and it will go all over the meter accept where it is supposed to. I will refuse to make any payments for speeding tickets as long as I am following with surrounding vehicles until my speedometer gets fixed.

I own a used 2004 chevy Tahoe and have recently started having speedometer problems, I was told by the dealership that this was a covered item to fix free of charge because of some special class action, but however my Tahoe has just over 72,000 miles that it is now not covered. I own a 2004 chevy Tahoe. On January 14, 2009, my speedometer started malfunctioning. At first, when I would start the car and drive, it would work but after about 10 min. It would start indicating the wrong speed. It's now been a few days and the speedometer isn't working correctly at all. When I'm driving approx. 30 miles per hr. , the needle reads 120 mph. I won't be able to get my vehicle into the dealership until next week. . . By the looks of all the complaints, this seems to be a problem with many 2004 Tahoe owners. I was hoping this was a recalled item.

I have a 2003 chevy Tahoe. Speedometer went out at 94,000 miles. Gm is aware of faulty instrument panel. Won't replace part, at their cost, due to 7 year/70,000 mile limitation.

Speedometer quit working on 2005 gmac Tahoe. Stuck on 120 mph. . Have no idea how fast I am driving due to speedometer not working. Appears to be a common issue in gmac trucks, however gmac won't repair the part if the vehicle has more than 70,000 miles on it.

At the beginning of the year, my 2003 chevy Tahoe lt truck, experienced different speeds according to the speedometer. At one point it said I was going 130 mph when I was parked. Then the speedometer stopped working all together. I also started to notice the other gauges, fluctuate. I was told by gm to get it fixed by a authorized dealer. I got the repair done for 491. 00. I then called gm back, and they refused to pay for the fix, because I was "over the 70000" mile limit. I explained that this was a safety issue, as for a while I had no speedometer at all or engine temp or tach. Chevy refused to talk to me and simply told me it was my problem. I spoke to several people at gm and they all told me different stories and refused to listen and call me back. I am now stuck with the bill and gm doesn't care about the serious safety concern one bit.

My speedometer has been freezing up and not working properly lately. Sometimes, especially when it's cold out, the speedometer will stay at 0 mph and not even move - once it does get going, it go up, but when I come to a complete stop, it won't go back to 0 - it may stop at 20 or 30. Sometime, the speedometer will even exceed the max speed on the dash and I know I'm not going that fast. This problem seems to be a reoccuring issue with many users of a '04 chevy Tahoe - I would think this would warrant a recall if this many people are having the same problem. I have heard gm had sent out a letter addressing this issue, but will only cover it if there's 70,000 or less on the vehicle - what do the people do if they are over that mark, we shouldn't have to pay for this - especially if everyone is having the same problem - this seems to be a safety issue as well. What can be done?.

Received recall notice on instrument cluster. Fuel gauge had been inaccurate since day one - thought this was my solution to the problem. Joe holland Chevrolet replaced cluster on 1-21-08. Did not fix problem with fuel gauge. On or near 12-31-08, engine hour meter zeroed itself and started over. Went to joe holland on 1-6-09 - explained problem and was told the person I needed to talk to was not there. They would have him call me. No one called. When back to dealership on 1-14-09. Same story - person I needed to talk to not there. They will have him call. Jim barnhart called later that day. He said the cost to check this out is $75. 00. If problem is in cluster, they may be able to get the fix repaired under warranty. If problem is in any other component, I must pay for the diagnostic check and for any other repairs that might be needed.

I have a 2003 chevy Tahoe, the speedometer does not work, from what I have been reading this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle, also it's my understanding that gm is fully aware of the problem but is not will to do anything about it, like many others I fell this could be a safety issue, any help would be appreciated. ~6 months ago, my speedometer on my 2003 chevy Tahoe went to 120mph and stayed there. I am unable to tell how fast I'm going and now my oil pressure gauge has maxed out. I had 105k miles on it at the start of the issue.

I have a 2005 chevy Tahoe. I have had nothing but problems with the instrument cluster. The fuel gauge works correctly only half of the time. It sometimes tells me I have a full tank and then when you restart the truck it shows empty and the low fuel light comes on. Now today the speedometer was showing 120 at approximately 65 mph. We turned off the vehicle and it shows 20 mph. This is unsafe and needs to be recalled. Please help me and every other Tahoe owner with this same problem. Thank you.

Speedometer went haywire it started to get stuck while driving. Then when the car is turned off it doesn't zero out. In order to get the needle to return to zero you have to turn the car on and off until it drop to zero. I called the Chevrolet customer service center they referred me to the dealership and the want to charge me $ 600 to fix the problem that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Speedometer stopped working completely - serious safety concern with defect. Contacted dealership, was advised that they have had too many complaints about this issue and have had to start turning people away. They want $500. 00 to fix problem but admit that this is defect.

Speedometer quit working at 64,030 miles. This is a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe z7 4x4. Vehicle is out of warranty. Purchased after market warranty. Appears to be a major problem with this type vehicle and not covered under extended warranty. Dealer unable/unwilling to locate replacement part.

Speedometer is malfunctioning by sticking while driving and not returning to zero when the car is turned off. In order to get the speedometer to zero out you have to turn the car on and off until the needle drops to zero.
