1 Wiring problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

While driving the Tahoe close to home I started to smell of burning and I could see smoke coming up from the dash. I pulled over and by then the whole car was filled with smoke and I could see flames coming from under the dash on the passenger side. I tried to put out the flames (not recommended) but the fire just spread upwards into the dash and was obviously out of control. I left the vehicle and called 911 and within minutes the whole front of the car was engulfed in flames. The police and fire service arrived and eventually the fire was extinguished after it had burned through most of the vehicle. Fortunately I was on my own and I suffered no injuries except a few minor burns to my hands. I am guessing the fire may have started with the blower motor resistor wiring which is a problem many others have reported.

4 Wiring problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

After heavy rain I noticed that both of my back doors sounded like there was a gallon of water inside of them. I read that this is a very common issue! I can only imagine the amount of rusting happening inside of there as well as electrical damage & risks of having wet speakers & wiring inside the door. Unacceptable. This should be a recall.

8 Wiring problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/13/2017

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times without warning. An independent mechanic replaced the fuel pump, but the vehicle continued to stall. The mechanic also noticed that the fuel pump, associated with the wiring, seal, wiring harness, and fuel system, was not getting power. The spare tire was let down to further inspect the area and the mechanic noticed that the pins were disconnected, and there was a significant amount of corrosion to the seals and wiring near the fuel system control module. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the seal and seven of the wires, associated with the wiring harness, were prematurely corroded. It was also diagnosed that the fuel system control module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 09v145000 (latches/locks/linkages). The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

Have a problem with electrical system. 1) the lane assist and reverse feedback comes and goes due to loose wiring. I found this is a common issue. 2) the new issue is once starting the vehicle and pressing brake pedal, interior lights flash. Happens intermittent for first few minutes from start of vehicle.

10 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

Driver side window switch caught fire shortly after use (several hours). A light rain storm came while the windows were down. Some rain entered the inside of the vehicle, some water likely got into the switch assembly. This all happened while vehicle was parked on the curb and ignition was off. I toweled off the interior and switch assembly off, it didn't appear much water entered the switch. The vehicle was parked and "off" this whole time. I turned ignition on to roll windows back up, and promptly turned the ignition back off. Some hours later, the switch assembly caught fire and the vehicle was a total loss. This fire wasn't discovered until the next day as it self-extinguished. The battery was not discharged after the fire, so it was not a dead short in the wiring. I believe the auto-down circuit board or the electric mirror switch was the cause. After the fire, the pass side mirror was fully extended away, at some point the contacts were closed causing the mirror to move, despite the ignition being "off". This happened either during the fire, or the switch was the cause of the fire. The ignition was only "on" for about 30 seconds that whole day prior to the fire, just long enough to roll up the windows.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the air condition system in the vehicle failed. The contact stated that the air condition was in operation when it suddenly stopped working and there was an abnormal smoke coming from the vehicle's front air condition vents. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed for the failure. The contact was informed that the wiring harness for the heater unit was melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v070000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 198,000. Ah.

12 Wiring problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the battery drained and required replacement every three months. In addition, the engine rpms increased. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on numerous occasions. On one occasion, the dealer replaced the wiring harness that caused the check engine, the battery light and the abs warning lights illuminated. The failure mileage was 118,000.

13 Wiring problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

Vehicle registered "reduced engine power" while I was on the highway, I was able to get to the shoulder, online research showed numerous incidents involving the throttle body sensor and the wires crimping, there was something about the wiring harness being coverd by gm but it does not appear on a recall list.

14 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

2007 chevorlet 2007 Tahoe ltz with 62k. I parked the car as usual and locked the doors using the remote. The next morning I went into the car and it smelled like smoke and something had caught fire. None of the driver side door functions worked. I removed the drivers side master switch and the wiring harness plug had burnt our and melted itself to the master switch. The short destroyed both the master switch and wiring harness the car did not trip any fuses in the process. This was a very scary situation considering the car could of completely caught fire in my driveway. There was no moisture in the vehicle when this incident occured. I have pictures of the parts that burnt out. I brought the car to the dealer to have it inspected which said their was no recall for this vehicle.

15 Wiring problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Cracked dashboard that affects airbags and electric wiring associated to dash and dashboard components. Causes visual images on windshield when driving making it a hazardous situation. There is two cracks on this dash which over time will cause tremendous issues with safety issues associated to the wiring and safety airbags.

16 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The power window on the driver's side of the vehicle will stop working all of a sudden. It is not all of the time, but sometimes, when I have the window down, and I push the power switch to close or open the window it will not work. This could lead to a very serious problem, if for some reason I am unable to open the door and then the window will not go down. We live in michigan and you recently recalled vehicles because of a problem with the master power window switch causing fires in the driver's side door, which ended up melting and/or burning the door. There must be corrosion of the wiring in my vehicle that is causing the problem with my window. I know that your recall was not for the same year as my vehicle, but it sounds like the exact same problem and I don't want to end up having my car door catch on fire, especially if me or my family are in it, or if it is parked in our garage it could burn our entire house down. When we purchased this vehicle from the dealership it was brand new, and there have been no other owners.

17 Wiring problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/04/2011

The passenger side factory installed trailer wiring harness is defective because it is pushed in under and to the rear of the spare tire. Accident - comming onto highway 152 with a trailer, which is a left lane entry onto a two lane headed east. Everything inside was working; passenger side signal was indicating properly, but unknown to me the signal was not working on the trailer. As I moved over to the outside lane to give faster vehicles room to pass in the fast lane (left) the car behind me did not see my signal (because it was not working on the trailer, but was on the Tahoe) and had to slam on his breaks and skided darn near into me. This is really dangereous and is a flaw in the manner in which the wiring harness is squeezed into the tiny space at the rear of the spare tire. I traced all the wiring and it is in the harness since I could not get a current flow reading from the connector/tit that is for the passenger side signal and stop lights. Yes, I did check the fuse and it is fully functional. I full expect to hear from you since I cannot find a satisfactory place to call Chevrolet; all they want to do is sell you another vehicle. Thanks.

18 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

1998 chevy Tahoe wiring harness from brake pedal. Brake wiring harness moves with brake pedal motion (I. E. When brakes are activated). Over time, this motion causes wires to break resulting in brake light failure.

19 Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Noticed that the headlights became intermittent; started occurring more frequently once problem started eventually headlights would not stay on; discovered the problem was relative to the position of the tilt of steering column; vehicle was evaluated and repaired; repair included replacing the wiring harness and the multifunction switch; the wiring harness had shorted out apparently from the repeated movement of the tilt being adjusted; old part is available; I'm reporting this because the problem is dangerous when the headlights go off traveling at high speeds at night. It is also a fire hazard per the mechanic that repaired the vehicle. We did smell smoke at one time but didn't notice any other components damaged. Maybe we were just lucky.

20 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/08/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. He stated while the vehicle was parked he noticed a fire in his fuse box that destroyed the wiring harness. The failure occurred under the hood under the left front fender. The vehicle is at the dealer being repair with a cost. He contacted the manufacture and they would get back with him within twenty four hours. The manufacturer has not contacted him. The failure mileage was 56,000. Bl updated 09/29/09.

21 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/03/2009

In our 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe the dash is cracked just above the passenger side airbag which could cause serious injury in a crash. The interior wiring must be faulty, the passenger window sometimes won't roll down from drivers side, but sometimes it will. Also our battery mounts different than what is called for in automotive centers (top mount , not side) making it difficult to order proper battery for this vehicle.

22 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving 25 mph, smoke appeared underneath the hood. The contact threw snow on the vehicle to extinguish the fire. The engine would not turn off. She drove the vehicle to the dealer for repair; however, the dealer and the insurance company did not know who could repair the damage. The dealer stated that the wiring harness caused the fire. The failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 3/16/09 updated 03/19/09.

23 Wiring problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/29/2007

My 2003 chevy Tahoe got on fire after replacing a fuse that powers the cigarette lighter. I replaced the fuse and when I went inside the car I saw smoke coming from the inside of the dashboard and in less than 2 minutes I had flames commons from the dashboard.

24 Wiring problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/09/2007

Speed odometer on the 2003 chevyrolet Tahoe was not working correctly. I have contacted several service departments, including the Chevrolet dealership where I bought the SUV. This was so odd to them, some mechanics were not even familiar with repairing this problem. It all started about a month ago, I drove out of town and noticed that the speed was not adding up, and finally it just went to 120 and stayed there. The dealership charges were outrageous, $400+. I only had this vehicle for a year, I needed help because I have been contacted by several people with the exact problem and these are Chevrolet Tahoes, yukons, avalances. All Chevrolet or gm. We need help because this must be something that they need to look into and a recall should be done for us. Don't wait until someone is injuried or even killed. Thank you, I am looking forward to hear from you.

25 Wiring problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/06/2006

: the contact stated while traveling 65 mph, smoke flowed from under the hood. The vehicle was pulled over and the hood was raised. There was a fire in the fuse box that was extinguished with water. A police report was taken. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where the entire wiring for the vehicle was replaced. Once the contact took possession of the vehicle, the warning lights illuminated and the audible warnings buzzed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership who determined there was a short in the wiring system, but there was no repair.

27 Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/16/2005

My complaint has to do with the running lights and the brake system for the 2001 chevy Tahoe. I have had my running lights replace numerous times and there is an apparent short in the wiring connection that will have to be fixed. My parking and abs brake lights keep coming on even though the braking system has been replaced and the lines have been flushed. These lights go off once the car is restarted, but sometimes come back on. This will be my second trip to the mechanic to see what the problem with my brakes is. I think this is ridiculous because I have already spent several hundred dollars that I didn't have, in order to ensure my children's safety. Now after reading about the parking brake, who knows how much more I will have to spend to have it checked to see if that is the problem? since there are parking brake issues, the vehicles should have been recalled at the cost of the company, not the consumer.

28 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/03/2005

The fuel pump quit pumping gas, the wiring got hot on it and it started smoking. Tooke vehicle to the dealer, they said fuel pump was bad and wiring overheated. They replaced the pump, and the wiring. This happened on August 3, 2005.

29 Wiring problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

Fuel pump went out on 1999 Tahoe. Took to dealer to service under extended warranty. I was told that there is a service bulletin about the wiring harness with a warning that they can be faulty and short out the fuel pump, in which case the new fuel pump would not be covered under warranty unless the wiring harness was replaced. I was also told that there is a recall coming out on this very problem but only for 2000-2003 (or 2004?) Tahoes. My concern is that if this is a know problem that happen to thousands upon thousands of 1999 Tahoes why aren't the 1999 Tahoes being included in the recall that is soon to be released? I was told this by my dealer.

30 Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/24/2004

While driving passenger in the rear seat adjusted the passenger seat and noticed sparks coming from under the seat. Later, the sparks turned into flames. The fire department extinguished the fire because the wires kept igniting.

31 Wiring problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/06/2004

Battery died, replaced. Battery lights coming on while driving the vehicle, unable to start vehicle, vehicle stalling. Unable to operate vehicle due to loss of power. This happened while driving 30 mph in the rain. Barely able to pull vehicle off roadway. No power at all including lights and hazard lights. Took to Chevrolet dealer - found no problem, nothing done to correct. Was told that after market alarm system (installed at Chevrolet dealer) could be the cause of the problem. Took to audio installer and had alarm removed. Was told by different chevy dealer that they had the same problem right now with a Tahoe in their shop. They removed alarm and have had no problems since (2 days). Would need to drive my vehicle to see if it happens again. This is a severe safety issue as it could easily result in an accident because oncoming vehicles can not see you without hazard lights. Old part is available. I have kept the alarm system if needed to review.

32 Wiring problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/27/2004

While driving at 20 mph consumer smelled burning wiring. Parked the vehicle, opened the hood and found nothing wrong. At the same time he looked to the rear and saw a heavy smoke coming from the passenger's side and suddenly vehicle caught on fire. Fire department showed up, extinguished the fire, and wrote a report indicating there was short wire on the speaker.

33 Wiring problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/25/2004

While driving along the boulevard at 15 mph, the smell of burning electrical wires became more pronounced. When I looked through the rear view mirror I saw fire dropping from the rear passenger side speaker endangering the lives of the passengers and damaging our possesions in the cargo section. I notified the fire department and they extinguished the fire.

34 Wiring problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/19/2004

Fuse in fuel pump circuit blew, shutting down engine. Problem caused by internal wiring to fuel pump in fuel tank shorting together. Fuel pump replaced and old pump discarded. Recently read in washington post that this may be a common problem in gm products.

35 Wiring problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/07/2004

My 1999 Tahoe caught on fire at the remote mirror switch in the driver door, burned all around the mirror switch, I was able to use a fire extinguisher and get the fire out. I noticed there was a recall for a specific problem with a mirror switch, but not with Tahoes, just Chevrolet trucks, suburbans. Gm refuses to accept any blame for this faulty switch, and insist it happened due to high miles. They want to pass the buck; however, I don't buy it. My Tahoe was manufactured in sept. 1998 and the other vehicles were 1997 - 1998 models. I think it could be possible that my Tahoe received one of the faulty mirror switches. I would like for it to be checked out more thoroughly. I would like to know how many other people have had a problem of this nature.
