Chevrolet Tahoe owners have reported 17 problems related to car will not start (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Tahoe based on all problems reported for the Tahoe.
Vehicle will not start. Only 6900 miles. Battery fine, lights and radio work, windows and tailgate work. Car turns over, but just won't start. Read manual, did everything suggested. Clearly an electronic error. And, because vehicle could not be started, it could not be put in neutral. Tow driver had to drag car across pavement on flatbed. Could not be good for brakes or anything else down below. When arrived at dealership, could not get Tahoe off flatbed. Winch only pulls up onto flatbed, does not push backwards. Oiled the flatbed and shook the entire tow truck body to try to get it to slide down. No idea why this happened. But a couple of months ago same thing happened to a friend's GMC version. Clearly electronic failure in band-new car.

I was driving on the service road, preparing to enter the highway. Suddenly, the door-locks started going up and down repeatedly, and the interior lights started flashing on and off repeatedly. Then the engine turned off which made it come to a sudden hard stop. The engine restarted on its own. Thankfully, my dealership was at the nearest intersection, so I was able to drive the 2014 Tahoe to the dealership. The locks continued to go up and down and the interior lights continued to flash on and off as I pulled into the dealership. I turned the car off to go inside of the dealership to let the manager know what had just happened. My husband came to the dealership to see what was going on. The manager told us to pull the car around to the service department, but the car would not start and had to be towed to the service department. I did a search and saw that there was a recall on 2014 Chevrolet Tahoes for electrical issues that could cause it to stall. A couple of days later the dealership and service department had to close for a while because of covid-19, but when they reopened the service manager informed me that my VIN number was not included in the recall; therefore, gm will not pay for my vehicle to be repaired. I refuse to drive it in that condition so I've traded it in for a new, non-Chevrolet/gm vehicle. I am reporting this to prevent anyone else from purchasing and driving this vehicle until it has been repaired. It's dangerous!.

During the past seven years, at random intervals ranging from days, months and years, my Tahoe will not start. I have had it checked by a Chevrolet dealer and an independent automotive shop. They are unable to replicate the problem. This happens when I stop the vehicle to get gas, park it to go shopping or to a doctor's office. I never know if it is going to start or not. I fear for the safety of my wife and son when they are operating the Tahoe in case this happens to them. At first, I thought it was just my vehicle. But, researching the internet today, I find that countless others have had this problem with a variety of gm and GMC vehicles -- primarily suvs and pickup trucks. There are even videos by drivers who have had the same problem as I have experienced: the vehicle will not start. After waiting anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour and continuously trying, the vehicles will start like nothing was wrong. I've had aaa mechanics whom I've called to tow my Tahoe witness this malady. I firmly believe gm/GMC should issue a recall and repair this problem before something tragic happens to someone who cannot start their vehicle when they are in a dangerous situation such as at night or in an intersection.

Vehicle would not start, needed to jump start. Once running ,climate controls and fan volume would not respond. Heat at 90,fan on full. Engine light flashing on off. Dash lights suddenly dimmed to low. Taken to dealer, had vehicle for 4 days. Dealer replaced battery. One week after battery was replaced, experienced the interior cabin lights would flash when brake pedal was applied. Instrument panel lights suddenly go from bright to dim. At night and day when turn signal activated ,the interior cabin lights flash on as well as when driver applied brake. Very distracting and dangerous in particular when operating at night. Notified dealer, returned vehicle for full diagnostics, had it for one week,no issues found. Picked up vehicle interior cabin lights still flash when brake is applied. Slight movement and clicking on drivers seat only while operating at any speed. Notified dealer. Again to document. Advised I would be filing a safety complaint, since dealer nor gm could not resolve issues. Occured June,July,Aug,Sep,oct, 2016,38000. Miles.

My 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe ltz displayed "service front camera" when I got into the vehicle but didn't even start it yet. ( see pic) . I took it to the dealership they looked at it and told me yes its a known issue but gm has no repair procedure yet for it. The vehicle has 89 miles on it, have only had the vehicle for a couple of days. The windshield is perfectly clean and no obstructions of the front camera. The dealership said I will have to live with it until they have a fix for it. The problem is that the front camera runs most of the highly touted saftey features such as the, fca forward collision alert, lane deviation alert, ebs emergency braking system, and on and on. . . . . . So now the $70k+ vehicle that was hyped up to be sooo safe for my family now has most of the saftey features non -functioning and gm knew about this and still continues to sell the vehicle and wont repair. There are also many other electrical issues with this vehicle, but will notify in different report. This is terrible for a vehicle of this caliber. Im a loyal and dedicated past Tahoe owner but this one may be going back. Im appalled that gm is letting vehicles continue to be sold with known saftey issues especially since they just got caught with the whole ignition switch fiasco.
I have had my 2008 chevy Tahoe to the dealers 4 times due to stabilatrack light comes on, then my windows continue to click brake lights quit working windows won't roll up or down and sometimes the vehicle will not start. On the third time they said it was the mega fuse and replaced it. Everything seemed fixed. I parked the car in the garage and pulled it out approximately 7 months later to get to my shelves and when I went to pull it back in the same situation happened again. I have not taken back to the dealer yet due to the extreme costs that I have continued to pay the previous time for it not to be fixed. . It effects the complete electrical system to the vehicle.

First problem was the vehicle would not crank. The vehicle had to be jumped off and then it cranked quickly. While driving the vehicle, the window control, speakers and heater would go in/ out of operation. The speakers in all four doors would go out then come back on at different times. Sometimes they would work all at once, other times one, two or even three may come on and off. The heater would come on blowing some times then cuts off again and again. The heater blower would also blow at one speed then blow at another speed without anyone changing the settings. The window controls will make the heater blow stronger, then when the window control is released it will cut the heater off. The rear passenger window controls will not work at all. The rear passengers also can not get out of the vehicle. The vehicle has to be open from the outside for individuals sitting in the second row seats. The only control that will work the rear passenger windows is the driver side control. The vehicle also has a light smoke smell coming from the vents. The passenger side door in the front will open for the passenger sometimes then at other times someone will have to open the door from the outside. The vehicle will not crank back up after been cut off, it always has to be jumped off. The battery is drained everytime the vehicle is sitting down and not being operated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership numerous times without being fixed. Gm corporation was called and I was informed a recall was on some vehicles but not others. I was told that my vehicle was not listed as one thou. The dealership checked my vehicle and informed me that my vehicle didn't have any issues but then on a second request they informed me that my vehicle had a bad battery and was having firing trouble. They also informed me that I was not covered by my warranty.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where the technician diagnosed that the ignition was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
While driving with cruise control enabled traveling at 70 mph with rpm at 2000 rpm, the 2007 Tahoe surged, jerked if you will, as if the cruise control was telling the vehicle it was going too slow. Hitting the brakes did not disengaged cruise control. Engine raced to 4000 rpm and locked at 4000 rpm! successfully shifted vehicle to neutral and was able to maneuver vehicle off the road and I can only hope the next person this happens to will be as lucky. Had to turn vehicle off to reduce engine rpm from the 4000 rpm it was locked on. Called on star and informed them of what happened and they ran a test which indicated no problem. Vehicle would not restart on first four attempts. Disabled cruise control button on steering wheel, which was glowing yellow, and the engine started. Gm customer service contacted, file 71-965035291 and gm refused to replace cruise control as the local dealer in san angelo TX indicated they could not duplicate the concern. If should be noted it was 104 degrees and the engine had been running for over an hour and 100 miles with the vehicle loaded with 5 people and luggage. The local dealer did not duplicate the exact conditions and instead did a test drive of 60 miles without the load or high temperature. Talked to sarah at 866 790 8601 ext 12869 and she passed me on to victoria, david, and then back to victoria. I am an equipment engineer and victoria did not appear to have any technical knowledge. Gm did not take my offer to remove my cruise control so they could bench test the unit and add heat to drive the faulty component to fail. Gm, specifically victoria, wants to wait until someone else has the same problem. I know this lack of action by chevy/gm seems hard to believe but the description I have provided is accurate.

The cluster readings turned off for a period of time while the vehicle was being driven and not able to see any speed nor gauges readouts during a period of over hour, stopped for gas and the vehicle did not started for 10 mins all cluster gauges not reading at all but able to turn the lights/radio etc.
Early last week, I took my wife's vehicle to a local tire dealer close to my home to have four new tires put on. One of the tire pressure sensors was bad so I went & bought a new one so it could be replaced. While switch was on (engine not running), the tire man began to re-train the sensors. In the process of all this & being indoors & the head lights were on (again engine not running) the battery ran down & the vehicle would not start. He had to use a jump box to start the car. During the running of the engine every idiot light came on & started one at a time to go out. After I left I found that the only thing that was changed was the engine hours re-set to zero. I looked on-line & found that there are several blogs concerning the same as I have described above with the same result. So I contacted gm via email on their web site to tell them the above. They called me back & claimed they never heard of such. They suggested I talk to my local Chevrolet dealer & find out what needed to be done. I explained all the above to edwards Chevrolet in birmingham, al. The service manager ask if anything else was going on besides the engine hours? I told him no. He said I should not worry about it. The next day the gm man called me back & I told him what the service manager said & he said ok but I probably need an electronic control module (ecm) & I said I ain't buying nothing as nothing else was going on with the car. Now I have gotten several calls from a woman at gm saying she has talked to the service manager at edwards and he told her the problem did not happen at edwards (even after I told gm that edwards had nothing to do with this) & happened at a independent dealer (which I already stated) & now the gm woman says I need to purchase a new instrument cluster. Here's what I see, this is a gm issue, not the Chevrolet dealer or the independent tire dealer. I have said all I am going to gm about this matter & I hold them responsible for this. Maybe now a Ford???????.

The problem I had is similar to one you are investigating against Chevrolet. My vehicle wouldn't start and it was discovered that the battery leaked acid and I had to have the battery assembly, terminals and battery replaced. I just wanted to add my complaint to the 200+ you have so far. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like. Thank you.
