Electrical System Problems of Chevrolet Tahoe - part 2

Passenger side rear air conditioning blower motor caught on fire and burned vehicle out completely. Fire trucks called to put out fire but is completely burned out. My safety was at risk flames in back by the time I got stopped on highway. Thankful no one was riding in back seat. First issue I had with it and it torched the vehicle. No warnings on dash. Vehicle is waiting to be inspected by insurance adjuster.

Failed ota update to information center (radio) has caused radio unit and screen to become inoperable. Blinkers do not sound when on, warning sounds when backup camera are in use no longer work, along with cross traffic warning due to this. It should be noted we did not consent to the ota update, and would have not wanted the update as it has caused damage to this system. Gm know this is an issue and has refused to fix this.

My 2020 Tahoe stabilitrak has gone off approximately 5 times over the past 2 months April and may of 2025 in one incident my vehicle did turn off all incidents were at low speeds less than 5 mph. Four of the incidents the stabilitrak light turned on and an audible beep, I also lost power to my steering and breaks. When I had the oil change the service tec at the dealer stated they can not test it unless the light was on? has anyone reported or experiences this issues what can be done to fix this issue. Instrument panel has failed twice and is unresponsive. The gauges move and stay to the left after moving left to right. All lights begin to cycle through error messages. I have video of the issue both times it happened. When it occurs, you don't know your speed you have to guess, the full tank reads empty etc. , and it is dangerous to back up. The vehicle has been diagnosed by one independent mechanic and is currently at the dealership. There was no warning before the instrument cluster failed other than a cycling through of warning messages service transmission check 4x4, service suspension system, service power steering drive with care. -the center screen goes in and out. -when in reverse, the rear camera is black, the screen blinks intermittently. - dealer has stated that the wires are put on incorrectly- if that is the case, I am not sure who would have done that other than the manufacturer. -previously reported there was a strong gasoline smell in the cabin that made it really hard to breathe. Dealer corrected. Right passenger side is intermittently wet with no cause from the interior creating stale smells, making it hard to breathe. It is important to note this is the side where the electrical wires are "put in incorrectly" according to the dealer. I also have a video of what occurs.

Truck want go over 62 miles heater comes on full blast truck reduces speed while drive and transmission want shift 4wd error comes on service climate system comes on the power steering error comes on the service esc and washer fluid system error comes on it seems like an electrical manufacture error with the truck.

The sounds from the radio works only 10% of the time, the radio sound also is what produces the turn signal blinking sound. Additionally there is a scratching noise coming from the speakers almost like a bad signal from the tuner. This is very distracting and a safety concern, especially when the turn signal does not audible make a sound. When I call chevy they say it will be $300 to diagnose, and if you look online this is a known issue amongst newer model chevy.

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe seems to be known for thermostat failure. My thermostat gauge while driving would drop from 210 to 160 and stay pinned on 160 and the fans would turn on. I was told by an auto body shop that it seemed to be electric issues. I also had a wire under the car catch fire and the auto body shop said that is why my standing lights would not work in the rear but my brake lights would work. It’s very dangerous that the electrical failure caused a fire to start under the car. Then, I ran into another issue just this week where the vehicle has a cracked ac condenser and is slowly losing coolant. It’s a manufacturing issue because all of them seem to crack and we’re not made with a proper seal. Another electrical issue I have is when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right, even when the key is in and engine is on, the engine will shut off. The car completely shuts off and then I have to turn the key to the off position and then it will turn right back on. The steering wheel is also losing power steering and gets very tight when I have to make a turn. The fuses for my radio are blown and when you put new ones in, it blows immediately and doesn’t turn on. I have many issues with this vehicle and it’s obviously a manufacturer issue. This is not ok for a vehicle to all around have such horrible electrical issues. I have had issues driving over a pothole and I lose my radio screen or my whole dash screen and then the dealer and auto body shops say the electrical work is too in depth for them.

I tried to get the fan recall done. I went to countryside Chevrolet I'm franklin nc. They refused to do the recall. I just moved out of my house and have no address. I'm here, in franklin nc. Trying to get the recall completed, and I need to drive to wyoming, and I do not feel safe doing so until recall is complete. My life is in danger with the possibility of fire. And I am stuck in franklin nc until it is completed.

The onstar module has failed. This part is the telematic control unit or tcu. This is a widespread issue with no eta of part replacement. This is an issue that is not often covered under warranty especially for vehicles outside of the age/mileage requirement of the company. This should be investigated and issued as a recall.

On may 9th, 2025 we had to have our 2022 Tahoe towed to the local dealership. There was a transmission error message and the battery was completely drained. The dealer put a new battery in it for $485 and we were told it was good to go. The next day, the car would not go into reverse. Had to have it towed back to the dealership and was told that the transmission failure was a recalled part and would be covered. Later we were called and told even though the part that had failed is in fact the same part in the open recall, that our VIN was not on the recall list and the cost to fix the vehicle would not be covered. In addition to all the headaches and money out of pocket (rental cars, tows, new battery) we now have to wait at least 4 - 6 weeks to receive the recalled part but since our VIN is not on the 2022 Tahoe recall list (even though it is the same part as the recall that failed), we are having to pay out of pocket for the repairs. Chevy needs to stand behind this recall and cover the cost.

We are apart of the safety recall with the potential brake and engine issues, we have contacted the dealership and they have no remedy at the current time for our defective vehicle. We contacted gm to request a buy-back due to the safety issues with the vehicle, told we did not qualify but they have no remedy for our defective truck. We do not fell safe in the vehicle, the brakes are sticking and the engine is making weird noises. We are currently seeking legal representation because we are being forced to drive around our family of 5 in an unsafe vehicle with no remedy or option to trade it in.

I along with many owners have experienced the widespread onstar/telematics module failures in the current generation Tahoe and gm vehicles, which cause onboard system outages like navigation, safety alerts, city emergency services, cellular connectivity, android auto/apple carplay, and even instrument cluster functions sometimes going offline. The part is often back-ordered with no eta, while gm denied warranty coverage causing the owner to pay for the replacement part and all labor.

Unknown but there was many lights on at the time of brake failure. I was driving home from florida to NJ with my four young children in the vehicle on a 65mph highway when all these lights came on, the brakes completely stopped working and it told me it was reducing speed to 62mph for safety because the brakes were failed. It also stated service svc. By the grace of god I was able to off-road it a bit to get it to slow down to a stop. The second time it happened was in my driveway parked. Inbetween the two incidents I brought my vehicle for regular service and asked them to look at the brakes again for me as this is a major safety concern as well as my transmission slipping and they complete refused and only changed my oil.

The system that I believe to be failing has to do with electrical components of the 2017 chevy Tahoe. It has completely lost all power two times while driving this vehicle. In both instances, mine & my children's lives were at risk including those who could have hit us. If anyone had been behind me as I was turning and the car shut off mid turn, it's possible we could have been hit by a vehicle(s) going 50+ mph. It's available to you to be inspected if needed. The vehicle has been evaluated by a mechanic who says he cannot find any specific 'problem' but did have to turn off multiple error codes. The chevy dealership thinks it may have to do with the remote start antenna. This has not been reproduced by a dealer or service center but it has been reproduced by myself when I attempted to drive the car again after the error codes were turned off. I also have confirmation of this happening to another person who owns a 2017 suburban and after servicing the car they continue to have issues. They were entering onto a highway on the on ramp and their car completely lost power and stopped- I would hate to see what could have happened if this was on the highway itself as it could have had the potential of lives being lost. The only warning messages I have seen had to do with servicing the remote start, which has never worked for us despite having it worked on prior to purchasing the vehicle. There were messages about stabilitrack the first day this incident occurred but not the second time that it occurred. Both times the car will turn back on after about 5 minutes but it's as if the cars system was completely reset (clock at 12, radio setting default, etc). The fact that I know of one person with a 2017 chevy that this has also happened to, I believe an immediate recall should be initiated as I will not be driving this vehicle until there is an answer to save our lives and others on the road.

The body control module does not work. A new bcm was installed in my car in April 2025. Since then I am having multiple issues, but the safety related issue is with the trailer braking system. It is available for inspection upon request. The dealership is unwilling to try another bcm without it costing me $600 for labor. If I am unable to use my brakes, then I put myself and others on the road at risk. The problem started with a tire monitor system. I was told I needed a bcm to fix the problem so the car would not throw codes. Now, I am being told the problems with the brakes are not comiing from the bcm. There was nothing wrong with my car until I took it to this dealership for a new key faub and a tire pressure monitor error. The body control module in a 2018 chevy Tahoe premier does play a role in controlling the sunroof. More specifically, the sunroof system is supplied power through a fuse located in the driver-side fuse box which is connected to the bcm. The sunroof switches communicate with the bcm via a serial data circuit, and the bcm then commands the sunroof to open or close. Therefore, the bcm acts a central hub in the electrical system of the vehicle and communicates with the sunroof control module to operate it. I learned this from two other dealerships. One dealership in west virginia and another dealership in texas told me this information about the bcm controlling the sunroof and many other electrical parts of the 2018 chevy Tahoe premier. To make it simple, the bcm was replaced. The vehicle is now having serious issues. I consider an unintended activation of the braking on the wheel which causes the vehicle to pull to one side puts me at risk of a crash. Is this yet another failed sensor or part due to the negligence of the service department at smith Buick when replacing the bcm and programming a key faub?.

I filled my car up with gas and turned it on and it started shaking. Several warnings popped up on the dashboard screen including, service esc, service traction control, and forward collision system unavailable. My cruise control was disabled I had to hold my foot at an angle to keep the speed at 45-50 mph, causing it to take 10 hours for me to get home from austin to dallas. The check engine light was on the entire time and flashed for the last hour to hour and a half. I was unable to pull over at that time because it was dark and I was in the middle of nowhere by myself. The next day I turned my car on. The only thing on was the check engine light, is , however , around 1 pm that day it started doing the same thing. I drove it from my patient's house in allen to galleria Chevrolet in dallas. They told me my battery was too low to run diagnostics and I needed to replace it. So I bought a battery and brought it to them. They replaced the next morning and told me there were no codes showing up so there was nothing wrong with my car and it was a fluke. Exactly one week later the same thing happened to my car. I called the dealership and they hao it toewd to the service dept. After I repeatedly called them to check on the status of my car, they told me it was the fuel injector #1. They then were able to apply for a loaner car for me as I am a hospice nurse. These are same exact issues that the gm 6. 2 l engines are having with the recall they just announced. I have a 5. 3 l engine. I am afraid to put my kids in my car. Please help get gm to take responsibility for this!.

I was driving and the driver dash frozen. I couldn't tell my speed, it didn't indicate blinker or hazards. It would say I was in "d" when the car was parked. The center dash shut down completely. The seat belt indicator didn't work, none of the charging ports worked. **this is a rental car**** I do have video of the dash.

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stopped at a traffic light and the engine unexpectedly shut off while the brake pedal was depressed. The transmission inadvertently shifted to neutral(n). The message to "push start to start engine" was displayed. The contact's husband pressed the auto start/stop button, but the engine failed to start. The contact's husband then shifted the transmission to park (p), pressed the auto start/stop button again, and the engine restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 700.

The contact owned a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the center console armrest suddenly burst into flames. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway and evacuate the vehicle. Within moments, the front end of the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The air bags did deploy. Local emergency services were able to extinguish the flames but did not investigate the cause of the fire. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A fire report was filed. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact transported himself to an area hospital and was treated for a second-degree burn to his left pinky finger. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was informed that the manufacturer intended to send a specialist to inspect the vehicle. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 73,000.

The electronic screen and computer function is failing. Phone calls are dropped and other functionality is failing including the information screen.

The check engine light illuminated cause us to park the vehicle until diagnosed. The diagnosis is the onstar system has failed causing the check engine light to illuminate. Even without paying the fee for onstar the light still illuminates rendering the vehicle “disabled” under indiana clean air requirements. They will not run the required emissions test to certify or plate your car with a check engine light on. The dealer stated the vehicle can still be driven however we will no longer know if there are ancillary issues because the check engine light goes on and off. Ironically this happened two months after a software recall performed by the dealer. If the vehicle is safe to drive with an onstar failure there should be no reason the check engine light illuminates taking attention away from more serious potential issues.

When we first purchased our 2023 Tahoe the engine was making a tiking noise we took it back and they told us it was because it was brand new time past engine always needs oil when we drive it u have to press gas pedal it also has electrical problems back camera turns on and off . Brake sensors don’t work . I almost had a bad car accident due to the engine that it had stop because it said reduced power while I was on a highway . I lost my son 3 yrs ago in a car wreck . I don’t want no more accidents so please help me figure some out with my Tahoe . I also went to dealership and they directed me to a manager . Manager never help never called back or nothing we bought truck at friendly Chevrolet.

Repeated issues with the infotainment system had to be replaced 3 times to date. The motor blew at 49,000 miles 3 weeks ago. The replacement motor is on back order and it is very difficult to get a loaner vehicle, not to mention having to make a payment on the vehicle that I don’t have to use.

Info center with radio, vehicle info, on star keeps going black screen. When this happens I loose all control of info center and on star goes out where no location would be available if the vehicle was in an accident. This is safety concern because with no automatic notifications of accident no one would know if vehicle was in an accident. The vehicle has been to dealer 4 times for this problem since February of this year. Each time the dealer says it needs another update each time. Gm is having this issue with many of the vehicles like this Tahoe. On star is also aware of the issue too. Gm knows there's an issue but now they are saying I have to pay for an update because I am out of my extended warranty even though this has been an ongoing problem which started when I was in warranty. This has to be a programming issue that they need to fix. The vehicle has to be shut off for up to an hour for screen and controls to come back on which is safety issue because no way to change any settings for vehicle and safety backup because of no on star.

Vehicle has been doing this since February 2024 but dealer would state the recall would fix the issue. February 18 2025 vehicle claimed to have a dead battery. Took to dealer once it was jumped they kept till February 28,2025 when I picked up vehicle less than 5 mile down the road vehicle shut off and luckily I was at a red light and the vehicle behind was not following close. The vehicle had just left dealership. Once I was able to get the vehicle back on it stated I needed to service the transmission. Took vehicle back to dealership and then they kept it to check. March 4,2025 I was told to pick up vehicle I did and it seemed well drove 6 miles to destination. Parked it and went inside came back out an hour later and vehicle was dead again. Had to call tow truck to pick me up and they left vehicle at dealer and it has been there since and they are stating it is in line.

Key fob does not work even when inside vehicle or either cup holders. I was able to use auto start a few times but having both keys inside or using one or the other spare or primary causes the no key fob message. The only thing that has worked has been to open hood, disconnect primary battery terminal and wait ten minutes. Afterwards, everything seems to be working. I refuse to believe that a brand new vehicle has to be operated in such a manner. I’m a nurse who works 15 hours a day and all I wanted was to go home to my family but now I’m stuck at work waiting for my husband to come disconnect my Tahoes battery for ten mins before it hopefully works again.

The vehicle was taken to a local auto zone where it was diagnosed with an abs - u1006 (loss of communication). The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was repaired under customer satisfaction program: n242435631; however, the vehicle was left for further investigation and further repairs. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The car presented steering lock column issues with repair lights on at 50 miles. Since then, they have repaired the system numerous times and replaced that system fully twice. They also replaced the manual start system and six other pieces of the car over 18 visits to two different chevy dealerships. The car still reduces speed and stops acceleration, has electric issues in the windows, lights and gate etc.

On 2 occasions the dash lights and gauges do not turn on when the vehicle is on. The first time this happened I was driving and was no longer able to see my speed or any other details provided by the gauges. We changed the fuse and it seemed to work for 1 day. The next day I turned the vehicle on, was able to drive but none of the dash features were functioning again. Will be taking to dealership when available scheduling to have it evaluated.

Traveling on the interstate late at night in the winter with my family, which includes small children, a clicking noise began but then went away. No diagnostic lamps came on, everything seemed fine, vehicle responded appropriately. Moments later, on a remote stretch of interstate, we lost power and the engine shut down. The vehicle would not turn back on. We were stranded in the dark on a freezing night.

While driving, without warning my brake system failed and vehicle did not stop when I applied my foot on the breaks. In addition to while driving up a steep incline the engine failed as I was actively applying my foot to the gas pedal causing vehicle to roll backwards. Most importantly I do not feel confident using this vehicle any further knowing that the brakes are not operating as they should, risking my life and my children’s life is nonnegotiable. Someone help please.

On one morning w/20 something temperature, Tahoe started and immediately shut down. When restarted, multiple malfunction lights were lit: engine, abs/brake, steering column, traction control, etc. Reached onstar for advice to see if Tahoe was drive-able, but only got confirmation of system malfunctions and offered roadside assistance but declined since at home and would call back if needed. About an hour later and several restarts, all malfunction lights finally cleared except engine light, which stayed on for another day or so. Tahoe drove okay during engine light on.

After start up, there is no audio coming from the vehicle. No audio from entertainment system, no audio from turn signal and no audio from fasten seat belt "chime". Restarting vehicle does not change the outcomes, initially. Exiting the vehicle and restarting about 10 minutes later, all audio returns, including entertainment sytem, audible turn signal indicator and fasten seat belt chime (if seat belt is not engaged). This has occured on several occasions since about 11/1/2024.

Continuous alert(3 months)- service transmission, unable to shift gears. Safety concerns due to possibility of transmission failure.

Driving down the freeway at 75 mph and the headlight started flickering any time I would use my blinker. 5 minutes later the car automatically breaks hard all by itself along with the dash lights going off and the doors locking and unlocking. 3 days later driving in town taking a hard left suddenly I get alerts on the dashboard saying, "parking assist off" and "stabilitrak" then suddenly my steering wheel jerks violently all the way to the right. This happened 2x when I am driving!!! it is available for inspection upon request. If this steering wheel malfunction happens to someone driving down an interstate someone could die. It just happened yesterday so I have not gotten it in to be looked at yet. There was zero warning it all happens suddenly and out of nowhere.
