I was driving on the highway when I glanced at my guages. The tachometer reading was below zero. Then suddenly my speedodometer started slowly falling from 65 to 70 mph to just below zero as well. Still driving. About 20 minutes later. The speededometer started to slowly rise. Finally it stayed steady at about 35 mph. This created a problem. Because I wasn't going 35mph on the highway. During this time, I tried not to increase or decrease my speed. I went with the flow of traffic. Because, obviously, it was a safe rate of speed at that time. Through some research of my own. I found that alot of the effected vehicles. Started having this issue after 70000 to 80000 miles. Gm's attempt to rectify this safety hazzard is lame at most. 7 yrs 70. 000 miles. These numbers were picked so they could keep their costs at a minimum. We, the consumer, are being forced. To take it once again. From the big businesses that refuse to take responsibility. For the very dangerous issues of which they created! has anyone figured out how many SUV's have been or will be effected? how many of them are or will be on the road? also, once the instrument panel cluster gets replaced. The odometer & hour readings need to be reset. This opens the door for a new set of problems. Odometer fraud.

While driving on the interstate all of the dash board instruments lost power, the door locks actuated as rapidly as possible, the four wheel drive engaged, and the engine temporarily lost power, & all the dome lights came on. The entire episode lasted aproximately five seconds outside of the four wheel drive would not go back into two wheel until the vehicle was shut off and the ignition turned on. This type of scenario has occurred now four times. At one point the vehicle locked itself while shut off with our two year old child in the car stuck in his car seat. The most recent event was preceded by the rear door refusing to open prior to departure, the headlights flickering, the radio panel shutting off, and when the headlights were switched from dim to bright the door locks again actuated at a high rate, the entire instrument fell dead, the engine briefly lost power & the air bag lights went on and off for about twenty seconds. Once the major failure happened the radio and instrument panel would go dead about every five minutes. Once we reached our destination I shut the car off and went to start it the next day and it had simular problems.

The vehicle ran out of fuel because the gauge indicated that fuel was present. The manufacturer sent the contact a letter to have the vehicle inspected concerning these failures. She stated that it was not a recall repair, just an improvement. The vehicle exceeded the 70,000 mile limit that was referenced in the letter, therefore the adjustment was not free. The failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 77,000. Updated 12-13-07. The air bag light had illuminated as well.
