5 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/10/2008

I was driving between 30 to 40 mph with my daughter in the passenger seat and my 3 year old grandson in the back seat. All windows were rolled up with the temperature outside being around 70 degrees. Without seen cause or warning the passenger window instantaneously with a loud bang broke into a million pieces covering my daughter. I pulled over to see if I could see anything that could of caused this. It was very frightening. My daughter was o. K. And I called the police. A report was made. There was no rock thrown, no bullets fired, no one around doing any landscaping or construction to cause an object to be projected toward the window. This could have caused a major accident but fortunately it did not. What could have caused this? the police suggested a defect in the window. The window had no previous cracks, or problems. Could you please let me know if this has ever happened and what can be done about it. Thank you, jill.

6 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The rear window has a plastic hinge that is cracked and is coming off. Contacted dealership, and dealership said they knew of the problem , and I would have to pay 50% to have window hinge fixed ,and that this problem went back to the 2000 model vehicles. This plastic hinge kept rear window from closing. Contacted the manufacturer. The consumer talked with customer service and did a report, I. D. Number was 1367044105. The hinge in rear window has been cracking over the last couple of months. The rear window has to be replaced because it is connected together with otehr items, such as the window, the hinge and the frame.

7 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

Hinge on the glass of the rear window separated during an extremely hot day of 100 degree plus temperature. The glass did not break but only separated into pieces. This happened on a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe rear lift glass. If the back lift glass door was opened and the hinge fully separated the glass could fall off on a person or ultimately fall out of the hinge at highway speeds. The glass never fully separated;, only one hinge separated. No previous issues with this problem. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated they would not repair the problem because the glass would not be covered under the warranty. The consumer d noted that the glass and the hinge are together in one manufactured piece. The consumer contacted gm through the better business bureau, and it was later determined that gm would not cover the repairs. The cost for the repair was $630. The consumer paid out of pocket for the glass and replaced it himself. The consumer noted that the replacement glass and hinge were newly redesigned.

8 Side/rear Glass problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/21/2005

I own a 2003 chevy Tahoe lt, on Friday January 21, 2005 the back lift gate window of my Tahoe exploded for no apparent reason. I was unsure of what happened since I was driving on a major freeway at the time. Houston police department was called since it sounded like a shotgun blast to my window. Hpd informed me it appeared to be a malfunction of the window. I took the vehicle to the dealership where I purchased it (norman frede Chevrolet) in webster texas. The service manager inspected the window and informed me this was the third Tahoe in which the back glass exploded in this manner. I could have had a serious accident, and thank goodness I had no passengers in the back of my vehicle. I feel this is an issue that needs to be investigated if there have been 3 of these incidents at 1 dealership, surely there are others.
