3 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

Sigma stampede radials for my 04 Tahoe were purchased in Feb. 2009 when my truck had 86,000 miles. The tires were supposed to have a 65,000 mile warranty. At 133,00 miles, the front right tire came apart on the interior side wall all the way around with 1 separation on exterior side wall. No injury or damage occurred because I always drive slowly and was on city street at time. Inspection of other 3 tires shows many slits/cracks on exterior sidewalls of 2 of 3 tires. Seller has done some compensation. However, I think the tire needs to be recalled. The situation of the tire coming apart could be very serious at high speed.

While drive a 2004 Tahoe with approx. 14, 000 miles on tires, proceeding on a smooth, flat secondary road at approximately 35-40 mph, low tire pressure sensor alarm registered on the dash panel. Within 30 seconds of the alarm the tire went flat from a sidewal failure of approx. 4 inches long. I drove approx. 1/4 mile on the rim/sidewall to gain a safe place to change the flat. After waiting for over an hour for gm roadside assistance, I changed the tire myself with the aid of a local resident. After contacting gm dealer, northstar Chevrolet clifton park, NY, district service director said that the faliure was from road hazard and would not pay for replacement [$181. 39]. 16 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/23/2003

In 2002 my 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe (@7800 miles)experienced a total (both sides)sidewall failure on one of the firestone wilderness le tires. I filed a complaint with you at that time. I had 2 questions; 1- were there any other reports of such catastrophic failure of this tire? 2- are these tires safe? I received no response from your agency! last week another one of these tires (@28,500 miles)failed(one side wall completely came apart). So, I guess that answers question#2. I've survived 2 of these failures now while many people have been less fortunate and firestone and gm rake in the $. So, now I'm forced to pay for another set of tires or ride out another failure or 2. I'll spend the $ because I care about the safety of myself and my passengers!!!!.

20 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/01/2002

While driving on highway (I-70 sb) my left front tire suddenly went flat. Initially it felt like I was traveling over a seried of minature bumps, this lasted approximately 30 seconds, then the steering became difficult/sloppy: at that point I was made my way to the shoulder of the road, fortunately I had room to get over at an easy pace without having to veer sharply, I gradually made it to the shoulder. As I neared the shoulder I sensed the tire was no longer between the rim and the road. I was able to stop within approximately 10 seconds of that sensation. After stopping I immediately exited the vehicle and inspected the tire. I found the left front tire to be completely ruined. The entire sidewall (outer sidewall) was detached from the tread. It looked as if someone took a sawsall and cut the entire perimeter of the sidewall. Luckily two west chester police officers discovered my situation and provided warning lights to alert traffic, while I changed the tire and spare. This all happened on08/01/2002 at approximately 5:00am. My father and 13 y/o son were with me. I went to schmitt huelsman auto mall (where I purchased the Tahoe) and I asked to have all tires replaced, requesting a different brand. The service manager was not authorized to do this. For now he is going to replace the defective tire with the same brand. I prefer not to have this same brand. I have absolutely no confidence in this brand of tire. At this time the dealer is in possession of the defective tire.

27 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/03/2000

Driving on clear paved road 30 miles per hour right rear tire suddenly felt flat. We immediately pulled to side of road and found tire completely flat and ripped open at tread line about half of the full circle of the tire. We changed to spare and immediately drove to firestone retailer in scottsdale and showed him tire. He claimed we had run on it and caused tread seperation. We ran about thirty feet after feeling tire go flat. To pull off road and safely stop on side. I have been driving 50 years and experienced several flats under far worse conditions and never had a tread seperate from the sidewall like this. I would like to send you the tire so that you may see if this is faulty manufacture and if we can get rid of these tires and get some replacement cost. We dont feel safew driving on them.
