Experience tire failure of firestone wilderness le on 2003 chev. Tahoe on 4/6/2008 when returning to memphis from atlanta. Was traveling at 70-75mph when entire tread separated from tire causing a violent explosion of tire. I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle and was able to pull to the side. The entire tread was gone from the tire. The remaining materials were nothing more than steel belting materials. There was extensive damage done to the wheel well lining, fender, rear door, fender and bumper as well as paint damage. These tires had 68,000 miles on them with approx. 1/4" of tread remaining. I examined these tires and verified 34 lbs of pressure prior to leaving memphis for atlanta. No object was struck in the roadway. This was simply a tread failure.

Right at 2000 I noticed my tires in front feathering, Chevrolet refused to replace them, and dealership said to rotate, now, they want me to put the rear tires on front, to only do the same thing, now I have over 6,000 miles, and already need new tires on front as they were horrible and getting very choppy. It was sad for Chevrolet to ignore this.

Upon notification by onstar to rotate my tires, at 6500 miles. I had them rotated at the dealership and noted that the front tires were "feathered" (wearing incorrectly due to some chamber or caster setting being incorrect). The dealer said he had seen worse tire feathering on 07 Tahoe's and there should be a recall.
Let me start by saying that I am a ase certified master truck technician with 16 years of experience. After learning of the safety recall on the 285/75/16 dick cepek radial fcii, I inspected all 5 of my tires. Four of the tires had matching dot codes and looked fine. The fifth tire was bought at a later date from the original four. This fifth tire is showing the sidewall separation that is noted in the recall. When I contacted the manufacturer directly and read them the dot codes off of the tires I was told that none of them matched the manufacturing codes of the recall. I would like to have someone contact me in order to investigate this further.

Spoke to discount tire reps. And they've seen it time and time again with these on Tahoes. Once a different tire is replace on the rim, the uneven wearing stops.

Tire tread separated from rest of tire while driving on freeway. As tread separated from right front tire, it struck the tubular running board, breaking the right front plastic step off. It also struck the right-side mirror, breaking the plastic shell and motorized adjustment controls, and struck right rear fender flare, causing it to become loose. At this point, it is unknown if other damage was caused, as I have yet to take it to service shop for estimate. Tire that separated was properly inflated prior to trip from yuma to phoenix. Tire brand was firestone wilderness at, which was not lot # recalled in prior problems concerning Ford explorers with firestone tires. Vehicle was 2000 chevy Tahoe 4-dr 4x4 z71.

The rim and looked as if it had been completely tore apart at the seams. The sales dealer stated that they had never seen a tire look like that before.
The second tire in four weeks had a tread seperation. The first was found at sears automotive when I took vehicle back due to tire vibration. They pro-rated the tire and replaced it. Four weeks later, another tire seperated at 70 mph on the interstate causing some body damage to the left rear of the vehicle. I now have a third tire vibrating at 35 mph and at 70 mph. This cannot be safe. I am meticulous about maintaining my tire pressrue at the manuf. Suggested pressure.
Tire failure. New vehicle with less than 3,000 miles. Front passenger side tire blew out. Tire was replaced by firestone at no charge. Firestone personel maintain that driver ran over something and failure was caused by puncture. The size of the hole in the tread not consistent with that theory.

Complete tread separation from sidewalk on the exterior portion of tire with no apparent damage from a contributing factor.
Replacement tires on Chevrolet, Tahoe, 1999, 32x11. 50r15lt113q. While traveling at 55 mph dashboard started to shake. Driver's side rear left tire tread separated. Cause unknown. While traveling on the highway, the dashboard began to shake. One minute later the rear left tire blew out, and the vehicle started to drift left toward the cable barriers and oncoming traffic. The consumer hit the brakes. The vehicle went to the right and spun around 180 degrees, and had gone up a small bank and into a wall. ($7500+ worth of damage) the consumer said that the tire looked to be defective, the tread has separated throughout over half of the tire and there is a straight slit going across half of the tire, bf goodrich.
Tread separation. No punctures, no flats, no strikes to tire. About 30 miles north of brady TX. Temp about 80f, light rain. Road was hard packed gravel under contruction. Heard noise from rear of turck. Slowed down but continued droving. A minute later a loud noise and the right rear tire was flat. Did not swerve off road as our speed was only 30mph. Pulled off road onto soft ground. Changed to spare. Replaced tire at del rio TX goodyear store on 6 July 2001. No signs of a nail or other puncture. No holes in sidewall. Tread was completely separated from what looked like an inner tube. The side wall was gone due to the rim and the road after the loud noise. The goodyear dealer had no explanation for the failure. I am concerned that there may be a defect in either the tires or the truck, and this could happen again. I still have 4 original tires on the truck.

We did not have accident, but with news about firestone wilderness tires we do no want to replace the bad tire with the same thing. We have ordered a different brand of new tires for the Tahoe because we think they must be unsafe. Is there any way that we can get an adjustment on the cost of the tires that we are removing? ( dot number: w273 wmb tire size: p265/75r16 ).
Initially experienced tread seperation during annual check in oct 99. Replaced tire and put trailer in storage. In July when taking the trailer out of storage, the "new" tire tread just peeled off. I towed the unit to the trailer dealer, RV traders, for correction. The dealer upon further inspection noted that the remaing oem tires (3), with approx 10,000 miles, were also starting to seperate. I was about to go on vacation, so had to install (4) new tires (goodyear). Rv traders in contact with the tire manufacturer agreed to re-imburse me at $50. 00 per tire after I sent a letter to the manu describiong the circumstances. This I did on July 21, 2000. I have yet to hear from the manufacturer in chelsea, MA. ( dot number: cfkcmt2389 tire size: st205/75r1 ).
Nankang tires p225 75 r15 experienced tread separation, causing damage to motor home, consumer wants reimbursement.
Was driving in newmexico on hot sumer day. Tire failed. The tread and sidewall shreaded. Firestone claimed it was not their fault! finally replaced the tire at a discount price of $70. 00. There was no reason for this tire to have failed. Had been driven the day before about 800 miles over hot highway. This was a brand new tire on a new vehicle. So sign of a hole or damage could be found. However tire was in bad shape. (tiresize: p265 70r16)( dot number: tire size: p265 70r16 ).
The tread/belt on one tire started to separate from the inner casing. The saleman at discount tire spotted one other tire showing signs of impending failure. I still have a spare from the same set. The others have been replaced. With the Ford/firestone problems, I thought this tire may be indicating another manufacturing problem. The salesman said he has seen quite a number of the same problem. Thank you, chris mccrate. (tiresize: p245/70r16)( dot number: tire size: p245/70r16 ).
