1 Tire Valve problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

I had to replace two valve stems on four tires purchased at bergey tire service, lansdale PA on 8/21/2007. The first replacement was July 3, 2010. When the second one was done, July 21, 2010, the mechanic told me about the problem with the chinese made rubber valve stems. I had just driven 90 miles to the seashore by myself (I am a 69 year old woman), and I shudder to think what would have happened if the tire had gone flat while I was driving 65 mph on the turnpike. Luckily I found the tire flat the day after I arrived. I am grateful that the mechanic told me about the valve problem so that I can get the rest of the tire valves checked.

2 Tire Valve problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 06/12/2008

Tire valve stem failure. All four of my valve stems failed from what appears to be dry rot within a four week period. I was traveling down the interstate at 70 mph when my right front tire blew out. The valve stem had rotted off. After putting on my spare tire, I proceeded to my destination. Two days later, I had a flat in the parking lot at work. The valve stem had rotted. I check my other tires, and the valve stems on them were rotted also. These tires only have about 20,000 miles on them. The valve stems are that old as this is the third set of tires/stems I have put on my Tahoe. The allstate service truck helped change the tire on the side of road. I was traveling on the florida turnpike, about 30 miles north of ft. Pierce florida when the event occurred. A friend has given me a paper that says there was a major lawsuit against this valve stem manufacture and that deaths have occurred. I do not know why my Tahoe did not flip, but it jerked to one side, and was extremely hard to stop. The tire was ruined. I am thankful that I am still alive.

3 Tire Valve problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/18/2004

In the last two months, I have had three flat tires. The first was a completely shredded on the freeway at speeds 65 mph. Costco replaced the tire, which was only 7 months old on may 3, 2004. A month later, sometime in June, a second flat, on the freeway. Costco claimed it was a nail. They said they patched it up and sent us on our way. The third flat, just yesterday on July 18, another flat. We took this tire and to another tire shop and they said it is a problem with the valve stem. We asked that they check the tire, which supposedly costco patched back in June and they said the tire had not been patched and that the air gage was replaced. What we infer is that costco knew something was wrong with these valve stems, lied about it and let us go on our way. Knowing full well that we still had two tires with bad stem valves. This third and final example is proof. Three out of four tires gone back in a period of 10 months is unusual. I don't know if it is a tire defect or a costco, man-made defect and need help.
